Ø [Phase] Presents Japanese Artist, Toru Katsuta, his Sophomore EP “Interconnecta” is out now on Modwerks June 23, 2023 (Vinyl & Digital).

“I first encountered Toru upon exiting a Tokyo DJ booth one evening. He was waiting patiently to pass me a CD of his work along with a polite, handwritten note. The tracks had a uniqueness and an appealing futuristic feel, and thus a few of them became regular fixtures in my DJ sets” – Ø [Phase]

Not unlike Ø [Phase]'s own beginnings, and following in the footsteps of the great artists before him, Katsuta’s humble approach caught the attention of mainstay techno fixtures.

In 2021, he released a remix on Matrixxman’s The Grid label for fellow up-and-coming artist Alarico. Despite being his first featured release, Katsuta’s music has already been circulating clubs and broadcasts around the globe.

Japanese artist Toru Katsuta returns on Ø [Phase]’s Modwerks label with six space trips to send minds into hyperdrive.

In the authors words, this EP was recorded while he was restructuring his modular equipment. 

This "always provides an exciting moment of exploration and discovery of new sounds. I added quite a few new modules in that time and, in my experience, that is one of the best opportunities to have happy accidents in the studio because the system itself takes me to a combination of sound sources, sequencers and effects that work together". Hence the name Unruly Machines. "Ive experimented a lot with spectral techniques and layering, which is most prominent in the textures of Corridor and the main synth line of Targa. The tracks were also created in a phase where I started incorporating more and more dedicated drum modules. 

The first order of business was, of course, to route them through a bunch of external effects (mainly distortion and delays), which contributed to the raw sound of some of the tracks".

Uväll is a respected figure in Georgia's electronic music scene. Raised in Tbilisi, he has developed his musical style over the years, focusing on deep, muscular rhythms that define his raw, dancefloor-oriented sessions. He has released music on labels such as WSNWG, FLOAT, INGUMA, OECUS, and CANTICLE, showcasing his depth and intensity as a producer. His performances have left a strong impression at venues like BASSIANI, Radion, Jasna1 & Fvtvr - just to name a few. Uväll is also a co-founder of the event series called FACTION, and currently holds a residency at Left Bank in Tbilisi. Since 2024, he has been a resident artist at ANIMA in Berlin, where he continues to explore and contribute to the techno music scene with a deep-rooted passion for electronic music.
