‘West Country gent’ Jabru has been kicking up a small storm since his dazzling sun-drenched banger ‘Church’ appeared on Will Saul’s edition of the famed DJ Kicks series last year. The rich, bumping House number that features South London crooner Joel Culpepper is due to see a repackaged release by DJ Kicks on 29 June. It includes a dark and dirty remix of the original by Garage pioneer Zed Bias, alongside a Will Saul and Komon collaboration – ‘Two For One’.

Earlier this month Jabru dropped ‘Little Fire Dubs’ via London’s Losing Suki imprint, a collection of Dub imbued dance floor rollers that also pull elements from House, Techno and UK Garage. It’s considerably more brooding than the sounds on ‘Church’, with Jabru  implementing heaps of tape delay, grainy reverb and lo-fi fuzz. Where the previously mentioned track is best suited for rooftop sunsets, this EP fits a dark, sweaty underground club at 4am. It’s an impressive collection of primal late night sounds and is testament to why he’s received continued support from Huxley, Futureboogie and Joker as well as being called upon to DJ by Hyperdub, Solid Steel and Rinse FM.

Following the EP’s release on May 11 and ahead of the DJ Kicks record, we have Jabru on Hyp mix duty this week for a lesson in the left-leaning club sounds he’s been spinning in recent sets. A number of Jabru’s own tracks make an appearance alongside jarringly robotic Techno cuts from human-canine duo Rex The Dog and classic 90s House in the form of ‘The Way’ by British legends Global Communication. Jabru painlessly connects the old and new of UK club culture, where a recent remix of Maribou State by Aus Music affiliate Tom Demac can exist seamlessly alongside early heavyweight Jungle from pioneer Studio Pressure.

Acronym first surfaced in late 2012 on his own imprint Dimensional Exploration, putting out mindbending music and working in the sphere of similar peers like Abdulla Rashim. A few months later he published a 12? on Rashim’s newly found label and platform Northern Electronics. He has now shown himself to be a prolific producer of deep, percussive techno by continuously releasing EP's and remixes on a variety of respected labels such as Semantica Records, Fields Records and Tresor.

Mystica Tribe is the musical alias of Tokyo-based producer, Taka Noda. Drawing on a wide range of influences – from dub, soul, bass music, rhythm and blues – Mystica Tribe has quickly been developing a very distinctive sound that exists in a weird, freaked out zone between dub and techno. Noda is especially interested in deep, psychedelic music, and this is reflected in his productions, which are equally suited for late night listening sessions or bent, broken in dancefloors. His first track, “Meditation Stick”, was released in 2011 on Dutch label SD Records, backed by two remixes from label owners Syncom Data. This was followed by two more EPs on SD Records in 2013: “Stars are Mine” and “Flowers”. Artists like Gilles Peterson and 2562 have supported these well-received releases, and his track “His Temple” recently appeared on Pangaea’s Fabric Live 73 mix CD. In 2014, Noda is launching his own label, Mystica Tribe Records, through which he plans to continue developing his uniquely psychedelic take on dub and techno. His recent EP, “Lizard”, was released on his label in 2014. “Jade Eye” was released on his label in 2016.

Through darkness comes light takes the listener on a journey through the fog filled mountains of Indonesia. Through darkness comes light isolates the movements of nature and the artists experience, resulting in new sonic landscapes that reveal an inseparable relationship between music and soundscape. The natural orchestra is presented in a dream-like manner as diverse as the landscape itself. The sounds will have you drift through different states of mind.

Faru is a Berlin-based musician and designer, born in Bonn, Germany. Since 2016 he is releasing Drone and Ambient music. His works have been described as a natural orchestra in a dream-like manner. Exploring movements of nature, noise and harmonics. He is also producing and playing Techno under the name Sert.
