An artist with a diverse and storied relationship with the dance music scene, GMJ & Matter are proud to see Kasper Koman make his label debut with the twin-track "Sinking Sky / Biome". A veteran of more than a century of production credits dating back to a 2008 debut, Kasper Koman has seen his work signed to myriad high-profile labels including the likes of Plattenbank, Anjunadeep and Guy J's Lost & Found. From central Netherlands, Kasper has combined trademark emotion with a powerful and evocative sound that has seen his music supported by such leading tastemakers as Guy Mantzur, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J himself. Now debuting on Meanwhile, the "Sinking Sky" opener is characterised by a driving beat and metronomic hi-hat pattern. A running 16th note bassline pattern enters the fray in the second movement with a fizzing vibrancy provided by resonating and filtered effects. A cast of additional characters add to the overall sonic landscape including a beautifully juxtaposed pad progression. A spine-tingling breakdown provides acetylene-edged emotion via the extended bassline motif, before hitting its stride once more in the latter stages to wondrous effect and no small amount of production talent. "Biome" continues the narrative of raw effects-laden power, while a strong kick lays the foundation for a piercing percussive groove, adding swing to the off-beat. A well-crafted sonic palette supplies a soft chord progression of Kraftwerk-inspired imagination as a meandering array of well-placed effects, white-noise washes and rasping bass notes create a mosaic of sounds. The result is a hypnotic, angular offering that keeps listener interest piqued without a central melody seeing the 6-minute piece fly past in an instant. Roger Martinez's Higher States rounds out the summer season by welcoming EANP to the label for their debut EP. Having worked together since 2014, it wasn't until 2018 that Buenos Aires residents Ezequiel Anile and Nicolas Petracca decided to coin the EANP alias for their collaborative efforts. Now firmly established, the moniker has become synonymous with quality club-effective progressive house, complete with a techy flair. Continued support from genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, along with key releases for Balance Music, Mango Alley, Meanwhile, Or Two Strangers and Replug have made the Argentinean duo a much in-demand act. Currently operating at their most prolific and creative to date, the beloved duo now add Higher States to their resume with a three-track showcase 'Hypersonic'.

Already in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo, it is ‘Hypersonic’ which leads the release off. Complete with many of the duo’s beloved production hallmarks, it’s a stripped down slow-burning groove which sets the pace for intriguing vocal samples, hopeful pads and uniquely polished percussion to create a timeless storyboard. Acid stabs steal the air, adding dynamic swing to the groove, while an array of orbiting effects perfectly prelude a heartfelt break, one where wispy sonics and decayed vocals build anticipation for a stomped-out finale, one that is sure to resonate across dancefloors for the remainder of the summer season. 

Selection two ‘Hypnotica’ continues the duo’s dancefloor minded approach and complements its predecessor perfectly. With a tough percussive framework. EANP’s craftsmanship reveals itself across the expansive journey, one where techno-inspired beats and low-slung bass lines get peppered with skittering rhythms, glitched-out electronics and carefully placed atmospheric refrains. 

The duo’s distinct aesthetic continues on the third and final selection ‘No Input’. Perhaps the most direct composition on the EP, its eight-minute running time quickly sets you adrift in a techno-inspired wasteland of retro-sonics and granular textures. Both intimate and wide-ranging, it's a trance-inducing break which engulfs your attention whole, creating a ceremonial backdrop for misty glitches and fog-like swells to paint a scenic storyboard onwards to a rejuvenating finale.

Returning to Meanwhile once more, Alex O’Rion delivers a stunning new double with the twin-tracker “Tunnel / Blackout”.

A regular on GMJ & Matter’s Beatport top 10 Progressive House imprint, Alex O’Rion has provided a score of production credits to Meanwhile. Among them, May 2021’s “Echium” and August 2022’s “Pluvia / Solis / Sericum” stand out as blue-chip original offerings with remixes for Rich Curtis, Jiminy Hop and GMJ & Matter themselves, adding to an increasingly successful portfolio.

The opener, “Tunnel” is a driving rhythmic monster that revels in a rapid-fire percussive groove, booming kick and rolling bassline sequence. Pitching slightly as it evolves, the low-end supplies subtle melodic variation before a chorus of motifs, cadenced stabs and rippling arpeggio creates a sumptuous combination. Flowing freeform melodies emerge in the second movement and into the breakdown providing the perfect pause for breath before a rasping bassline sequence increases in intensity, heralding the return of a pounding third movement where all elements combine to devastating effect.

The deeper, darker techier flavours of “Blackout” manifest themselves with a clicking and popping top-line arrangement while a chorus of effects and cone-melting bass groove supply simmering energy. As the track develops, a huge analogue synth swell appears as it pans the left-right spectrum in stereo unison. A pitched-down vocal effect adds an eerie feel at the breakdown as do the copious amounts of delay and reverb on the liberally sprinkled effects. Before long they are once again joined by the oppressive bassline dominance and intelligently worked melodic phrasing that emerges out of the effect-laden aural collage.

A recurring talent with an endless supply of sonic bombs, the spotlight falls on Alex O’Rion as he emerges from the “Tunnel / Blackout”.
