Up next we have a stalwart of the Leeds underground dance music scene in Frenchy with a special recording of him live at The Imaginarium in Leeds. We had the pleasure of playing on the same lineup that night & we had a lot of fun!

Frenchy keeps busy on the underground house scene with residencies at the legendary Back to Basics in Leeds, Body MVMT in London and Beatnick Collective in Manchester, as well as being a regular at Gottwood Festival. He is an avid vinyl collector for over 25yrs and ran The Garage nightclub which won the coveted DJ Mag small club of the year award and Waxwerks Records in Leeds, so safe to say he has a few hidden gems up his sleeve.

Yr Boo ends another year going where the dragons be. Dragons and mystical creatures appeared on maps for centuries to denote many different things - manifestations of fears, natural phenomena, people animals and places that weren’t known, just for drama — depending on who drew them. We still do this today albeit in different ways. When I first saw maps like this as a kid I didn’t think the dragons were scary I thought this was some amazing world we got rid of. I still wonder what we are doing.

Sam PV is the founder and a resident at Pumping Velvet, a London-based Queer dance party. Sam grew up in London, his tastes moulded by the city’s diverse dance music scenes: from childhood trips to Notting Hill Carnival, to formative dancefloor experiences at nights like FWD, Trash and Süd Electronic. He brings these influences to his DJing in sets that span a broad gamut of genres, tied together by a love for big drums, pop melodies and sleaze.

"This mix is a live recording of my set from the most recent edition of Vietnam's (Re)treat festival, taking place in the beautiful location of Mai Châu. The set acted as a love letter to my wonderful queer friends and family who turned up to turn out the dancefloor while I played and features a number of queer producers who's music I hold dear <3 It opens with a patient stretch of house tunes, both new and old, before letting loose with Mexican electroclash, UKG and straight up pop bangers. I hope you have as much fun listening as I did playing!"

The female saying "beats time, beats time" was a stunning french exchange student staying with my sisters mate for a couple of weeks, we had some fun together and she cried at the airport when we said goodbye - never to be seen again bless her!)

The tune was made on an Amiga using Noisetracker (a soundtracker variant) At the time I wasn't trying to get the tunes released had no real idea of what I was doing and had just started making tunes for fun. I sampled things from everywhere, off cassette tapes, from TV shows copied on to VHS, talking/shouting into headphones rather than a mic. Crunching four breakbeats into one channel as Noisetracker only allowed you 4 channels to play with and basically just throwing stuff together.

One of my mates Chris (infamous for being on acid at my house for the first time when my parents were on holiday and seeing a picture of me and my sister at Madame Tussauds in the living room stood next to a waxwork of Benny Hill, and saying "fuck me your Dad doesn't half look like Benny Hill!!!) showed me an issue of Amiga Format magazine asking for rave tunes to be sent in to a record label that were made on the Amiga.

I sent a tape off and out of 2000 odd tapes that were received by the record label (Delirious Records most famous for The Moog Jungle Muffin) my one got chosen, mainly I think because one of the tunes that was on the tape (not on this EP) sampled the drums from the guy that ran the label's first tune - Rotor Kaleidoscope (love that tune to death still)

I wanted to call myself as an "artist" Arkham Asylum as in the Batman jail for the criminally insane and really liked the way the letters fitted together , both words starting with an A and ending in M with the same amount of letters inbetween. However the label wanted to use my real name "Simon Harris" so as to confuse people into buying it thinking it was by the Simon Harris as in "Bass How Low Can You go".

1000 copies were pressed and split between two distributors, one of the distributors went bust a few days later and 500 went missing and then because of the really bad sampling quality from me not really knowing anything about production or sound quality, the vinyl was never of a high enough quality to play out loud. The tunes were good but just sounded bad through a loud system.

I never heard the tune out raving (although my sister claimed to hear it once but I reckon she was just off her head!) and it all died a death.

A few years ago I googled the EP and was amazed to find some people talking about it on backtotheoldskool. I put up a few tunes that I had knocking about that were never released, a few people liked them and that inspired me to start producing again.

I'm amazed by the response that my tunes get (I still think most people think I'm the more famous Simon Harris) and feel that I should have put more effort into getting myself out there back in the day but was far too busy with E's, trips and whizz!

But all of this just all goes to show never give up. I have always loved this sound, was never into music before I heard Eon - Spice on some walkman headphones wandering though Harlow town centre. I will always love this sound and am so glad that so many like minded people out there actually appreciate the crap that I throw together. Thankyou!
