For our 55th release we are launching a special series called Dark Entries Editions, dedicated to 12" singles made for the dance floor. The first release in this series is Victrola, the duo of Antonio "Eze" Cuscinà and Carlo Smeriglio from Italy. The band formed in Messina, but later relocated to Florence to join the rich musical scene there with Neon, Pankow, Alexander Robotnick and Diaframma. Beginning as a 4-piece combo (two guitarists, bassist, drummer) in 1979, they slimmed down to a synthesizer and guitar-based duo a few years later.
Their sole release was the "Maritime Tatami"/"A Game Of Despair" EP, from 1983. Using an array of now-classic Roland synthesizers (TR 606, TR 303 Bassline, Juno 6) plus a Korg Polysix and Fender Stratocaster, they crafted two darkwave ballads. "Maritime Tatami" engulfs the listener with trance-inducing synth lines and melancholic vocals over its epic 8 minutes. Oblique minor-key bass lines provide an anchor while snappy, brittle 606 rhythms propel the track along. The lyrics tell the story of Tatami, a boy from a fishing town who yearns for a new life in the big city. "A Game of Despair", on the flipside, is a haunting crawl through the eyes of a woman left by her lover. An angular guitar riff repeats hypnotically, as fragile icy synth lines chime emptily above it.
Each song has been carefully remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in an exact replication of the original jacket, and includes an insert with lyrics and never-before-seen photos. Victrola's only release is a truly singular and timeless masterpiece—it’s from a dimension of its own.

Romantic Fiction - the debut LP from Curses - is an honest musical expression drawing inﬂuences from his youth growing up in NYC in the 80s. References to new wave, post-punk, synth music and early EBM are skillfully merged with the DIY approach of punk and rock n roll angst. Brandishing an immersive sonic palette, all instruments throughout the album were played and recorded by the artist.
Exhausted by the current state of competitive dance music monotony, Romantic Fiction is a collection of songs, not DJ tools: songs that work at home, but also in the club should the right crowd beckon.
It’s about escapism and ﬁnding comfort in the unknown, fulﬁlling the empty void by embracing the mysterious. Darkness is a light undiscovered, not something to be frightened of.
Curses also invites friends who share a mutual love for incorporating post punk and new wave into contemporary electronic music. Perel delivers mighty Nina Hagen-esque operatic punk vocals on the ﬁrst single, 'Gold & Silber', whilst Dischi Autunno label boss Jennifer Cardini and Curses share a duet on the cold wave silk of 'Silence In The Dark'.
As an amalgamation of inﬂuences from multiple decades, Romantic Fiction is a deeply personal album, triggering a feeling that is unnerving at times, familiar and welcoming at others.

Schooled as a classical cellist, Techstil combines the hypnotic rhythm of techno with warm acoustic presence, and timeless geometrical melodies. Growing up with Kraftwerk he fell in love with analogue synthesizers at early age, and by 2006 he started DJ’ing in the underground clubs of Malmö. By 2008 he  followed the Basic Channel-beats to Berlin to participate in the evolution of the Berlin sound. After 4 years in Berlin he turned to a warmer slower sound, inspired by heavy base from Panorama bar, and never-ending weekends at Bar25... After many years in Helsinki, Finland he recently moved to Stockholm where he plays hypnotic deep house and dubby techno from labels like Sol Selectas, Giegling, Molt, Hypnus, Trolldans, Permanent Vacation and Diynamic
