A brief downtempo arrangement exploring many of the same sound design elements within the album from the perspective of reflection. Seen from a different perspective, these familiar crackling textures and spacious synth melodies surround a warm undulating bassline. These sounds found throughout the album take on a new meaning and breed a sense of newfound optimism and vitality before departing into its drum & bass counterpart.

Samotek disengages from all emotional apprehension on “Told U So” -  caution to embrace both the light and dark elements, seriousness and playfulness and finally the rooted with the upheaved - has all but been abandoned.

As we drift from entrancing, ritualistic, footwork-fuelled rhythms driving gritty, grime-laden baselines into hauntingly beautiful and spacious atmospheres - “Told U So” sits in imperfect comfort between spiritual intervention and club banger.  

Samotek’s egregious disregard to inhibit his exploration into a rooted, colourful and expansive yet reserved and subtle sound is what resulted in this incredible debut.

“Told U So” is a cautionary tale into unrelenting dedication to explore.

Deep, Dark & Dangerous’ exists to provide a platform for creativity, authenticity and sonic storytelling within the paradigm of bass music. 

This is perfectly encapsulated in JLEON’s groundbreaking album, ‘The Awakening of Sibu’ - where the dexterous Costa Rican artist pushes the envelope of what’s possible within 140. 

A captivating statement across 16 immaculately sculpted tracks, the producer fictitiously reimagines the moment Spanish colonisers discovered Costa Rica and encountered the indigenous Borucas people - also the subject of his debut DDD EP back in 2019. 

'Sibu' is one of many names for 'God' among the local tribes and in this tale, Sibu takes the form of a gigantic octopus who brings an army from another dimension to see the Spanish conquistadors off and save the Costa Rican people - with surviving invaders held captive and used for rituals, while others were drowned by mermaids. 

The LP format enables JLEON to express his boundless talents - not just shaping a narrative, but melding his technical prowess and consummate musicality in a package that showcases an artist at the peak of their powers, much like the octopus Sibu itself - where intricate tribal percussion meets dynamic synths and sub-flexing bass.

"Trumours - When an rumour is sufficiently circulated that it becomes accepted as truth without needing to be substantiated / when a rumour actually turns out to be true / something which is simultaneously humorous, as well as accurate."

By giving album the name "Trumours", Gianluca sets the premise of showcasing the complex relationships between things, that people usually oversimplify with their biases and beliefs. In this case, the relationship between an artist and his creation, which an artist in question wants to polish to an unreachable perfection, in addition to that, leave small details for people to find. Somewhere in this relationship, the audience and the people that surround the musician play a key role as well, by not only giving recommendations and feedback, but also exchanging important experiences and knowledge with an artist. The relationships form; an endless stream / feedback of information is built, thus allowing one to grow even further and beyond in all kinds of directions.
