These spacious, improvised vocals, dreamy guitar and slow groove will immediately take you to the middle of summer holidays." - this words has written us the amazing duo, after recording this material few days ago.

IKARVS is a project based on instrumental and vocal improvisation, which is the core of both their compositions and live performances.
 
Oscillating around the hypnotic downtempo, the duo goes far beyond genre conventions. Heavenly chants in an instant become ghastly modulated vocal loops, surrounded with guitar inspired by funk, cumbia and psychedelic rock. This seemingly chaotic mosaic is glued together by a steady, slow rhythm and bass pulsating deep below the surface.
 
In the concert setting, IKARVS is an electroacoustic live act designed in a way that enables a trance, introspective musical journey, as well as spontaneous interaction with the audience. On stage, the duo transforms into creatures of unreal appearance and dance, which guide the audience through this unique experience.
 
Since the beginning of the duo in 2018, IKARVS has already performed, among others, at the Fusion Festival in Germany, Summer Contrast, LAS festival, or in places such as Schron, Transformator and Bar Studio. In July 2021, they have their debut EP released on Berlin based label, DowntempoLove. In October their music was released in Hupupa Records and Oramics.

Have you ever noticed how babies dance to all kinds of music? 
This confirms the theory that Music is a universal and timeless language that humans are extremely sensitive to.
With this "end-of-year" mixtape, I lay myself bare and introduce you the depths of what drives me, what has healed me, the imperishable memories that have stayed with me, some of them since childhood.
For some years I have been compiling hours of music that is particularly dear to me; firstly for the pleasure of it but also with the aim of sharing these delicacies with you, a way to tell you where I come from, what feeds and inspires me.
Very delighted to share this musical intimacy with you. Hope you'll enjoy the journey.  
It's all about Love, something we sorely need these days.

PS: This may be the first "Kitty-cast"  as I still have a lot to tell you, dear music lovers.

✘ ...and maybe could you tell us more how did you get into the music cooking pot?
When I turned three years old my aunt gifted me a yellow cassette radio with a microphone and I carried it everywhere and was singing and recording all the time. Since then it was my biggest dream to be on stage and sing. With 8 I started to play accordeon for eight years. I didn’t really grow up in a surrounding that supported my creativity and then as a teenager somehow I was only singing for myself and I couldn’t sing in front of people anymore - I guess I just thought I am not good enough. I studied marketing and set foot in the business world. In 2017 I moved to bali and was living there back and forth until I moved to vienna in 2023. In bali I found my biggest passion again, that I was hiding for many years: music. I started to sing again and also decided to go back to university to study “electronic music and sound design”. Since 2023 I am DJing and also producing. I am surrounded by amazing, passionate musicians now and couldn’t be happier and proud of myself that I was courageous enough to walk this path. It is like a new, colourful world opening up and I am super grateful for everything that I am learning :)

Qu'est-ce qui t'a fait tomber amoureuse de la downtempo ?
Mon amour pour la downtempo est né à une période de profonde transformation personnelle. J’ai commencé par jouer de la deep house et de la techno mélodique, mais c’est seulement pendant le calme des années Covid — et au cœur de ma psychothérapie — que la downtempo a réellement commencé à résonner en moi. Ca correspondait à la douceur et à la connexion intérieure que je commençais à cultiver.
Puis sont venus deux moments forts, où l'étincelle de la downtempo a allumé quelque chose de profond en moi.
Le premier a eu lieu lors d’une soirée en appart. Je mixais et je jouais ma musique habituelle, donc plutôt “rapide”. Cette fois-ci, la musique me semblait beaucoup trop rapide. Alors, j’ai progressivement baissé le BPM jusqu’à arriver à 105, là c’était parfait. S’en est suivie une sorte de transe collective. Pour la première fois, j’ai ressenti une intense sensation de connexion à travers la musique lente.
Le deuxième moment clé a eu lieu dans le désert de Dubaï, pendant une fête du Nouvel An avec un petit groupe d’amis. Encore une fois, ce sentiment fort de connexion est apparu — et cette fois si fort que j’en ai pleuré. À partir de là, j’ai compris que la downtempo était mon nouveau chemin. 

Quelle émotion ou pouvoir magique de la downtempo tu explores dans ton set et pourquoi ?
Mon objectif est de permettre aux gens de se connecter au son, à eux-mêmes, et aux personnes autour d’eux. Parce que pour moi, c’est ça la downtempo : se connecter.

What made you fall in love with downtempo?
My love for downtempo was born during a time of deep personal transformation. While I started out playing deep house and melodic techno, it was only during the stillness of the Covid years—and in the midst of psychotherapy—that downtempo began to truly resonate with me. It matched the softness and inner connection I was beginning to cultivate.
Then I had two key moments when the downtempo spark really hit me.
The first was at a house party. I was DJing and playing my usual “faster” music. Somehow, the music felt way too fast. So I gradually lowered the BPM until I landed at 105, which felt just right. What happened next was a kind of collective trance. For the first time, I felt this intense sense of connection through slow music.
The second key moment was when I was playing in the desert in Dubai during a New Year’s Eve celebration with a small group of friends. Once again, that strong feeling of connection came up—this time so intense it moved me to tears. From that moment on, it was clear to me that downtempo would be my future path.

Which emotion or magic spell from downtempo are you exploring in this set and why?
My aim is to make people connect with the sound, themselves and with the people around them. Because for me, that’s what downtempo is about: connection.

Somewhere nestled in the mountains, where the robins song wraps us in stillness, tears of gratitude form new rivers, sounds are carried over oceans within the winds of connection, the morning sun rises and we meet in a pocket. A pocket of paradise and change. A pocket of love and of unbelievably familiar hearts.   

BC it felt more like a returning than a first time visit.  I look forward to the day we re-meet again.

Vanice emerged from Berlin’s underground at 16, shaped by bunker-techno parties, jazz vocals and a lifetime of diverse musical influences. She produces all her own beats, blending electronic rhythms with organic textures and insights from her work as a movement therapist. The result is immersive, rhythmic soundscapes that are energetic, meditative and deeply human.
