During his 15 year tenure, Tokyo based artist Will Long, aka Celer, has cemented himself as one of modern ambient musicʼs most significant forces.

Celerʼs ability to create expressively poignant tape loops remains near unparalleled, many of which resonate for extended durations without ever truly altering, and yet somehow, they seem to reveal new details with each recurrence, appear to take on new meaning with each heartrending repetition.

Vaagner is beyond humbled to present Celerʼs newest outing ‘It Would Have, But It Wasn'tʼ on our co-label Vaknar. The album itself is composed of two new pieces, each of which ostensibly render time, yielding it to their own will as the pieces unfold. Featured here, ‘An Implosion, A Smearing; Turns To Dustʼ fills side A with an 20 minute long exhalation of near celestial contours, while the B sides ‘At a Loss Forʼ brings us back to earth with an equally timed perpetual exultation on elation and demise. 

Once again, Celer manages to demonstrate his prowess as a storyteller of sonic repetitions, leaving us feeling transformed after the final reprise breathes its last resounding gasp.

Over all these years, going through the motions in busy streets, courts and ballrooms, marching along with the parade, one will see an endless gallery of facades, masks, faux costumes, and contrived personas. Only a sensitive hand can tear down this adhered wallpaper of imitation. Standing under this gleaming sunrise is not an act of defiance, anger, or detachment; it is invitation, albeit a futile one, to see what lies beneath.

Copenhagen-based visual and musical artist øjeRum presents 'Lav Sol', an album of symbolistic landscapes seen through intuition. In his music, Paw Grabowski effortlessly combines traditional, classical themes and motives into contemporary poetic forms. The three long-take recordings of Lav Sol inspire to look for the truth under the surface.

Blue Chemise documents the hermetic soundworld of Australia’s Mark Gomes. “Daughters of Time” follows 2017’s brilliant full-length “Influence on Dusk,” released in micro-edition on Gomes’ own Greedy Ventilator imprint. It is an elegiac set of vignettes recorded straight to dictaphone with minimal post-production. For me these pieces function in a manner akin to Loren Connor’s evocative “airs,” conjuring poignant, intangible senses of longing and nostalgia then disappearing well before overstaying their welcome. Regarding their genesis, Gomes points to a quote from Australian artist Robert Hunter: "It's like I'm external to them. They develop their own assertion and character; their becoming finished is a thing they decide themselves. It's unexplainable." LP/Digital available 9/7/2018 via studentsofdecay.com
