Spooky Week (plus) continues with this Sunday morning story--in this latest Interbay track, it is more that the narrative of the song is the spooky part, though the music slips between bright and jaunty, and dark and dramatic.  

The story is told from the perspective of a defiant prisoner, held in a dungeon cell, trapped by iron bars and heavy shackles around his ankles.  He has been left to die here, visited only by a cruel guard who feeds him only enough to keep him barely alive and refuses to entertain the prisoner's begging for conversation or even just to feel the rain one more time.  

The prisoner is scrawny--his skin stretched tightly over his bones.  His clothes, if you can call them that, are barely shreds of fabric by this point and they have taken on the same color as the man's skin.  He is beyond gaunt, and you have to imagine that you could see the air moving up his throat when he speaks or even breathes, if said throat wasn't completely hidden by a long, unkempt and matted beard that is probably home to bugs and scraps of food that will feed the rats who come when the man sleeps.  

The rest is up to your imagination, but whether in reality or in a delirious dream, it feels like he's being visited by the Grim Reaper (who reaps, grimly) to take the man away from his torture towards and into the mists of the ever after.  

Inspired by the song "Crowds" by Bauhaus--but not nearly as venomous nor as sparse--"Rattle My Cage" is the sound of a man's mind cracking open and spilling out.  

Based on a reverb-laden piano with a large string ensemble strong enough to jump scare the parents who are attending this childish recital.  The contrast between the bouncy and bright piano and the overbearing strings hopefully creates the kind of tension that earns its place on this Sunday during this year's Spooky Week.  

(Can you tell I used be a Dungeon Masteer for D&D and other ttrpgs?  Indeed.  And, I'd honestly like to do that again someday soon.  Just need to find five or six others that would like to join me for some adventures of imagination.)    

So--bit of a change of pace...though, I suppose that would be accurate for ANY Interbay track...wouldn't it?
