Esquisse d’une Sandbox is a scalable multi-channel piece that focuses on finding homogeneity in both the articulation of contrasting sonic materials and two artistic voices. The piece was created over a three-month period through weekly in-studio sessions. Rather than relying on a conceptual framework, the composition is a direct result of a continuous kinetic reaction to each other’s creativity. The two composers embraced the challenge of acousmatic collaboration as means to push their individual artistry.

Fondé en 2011 par Dr. Eldad Tsabary, le Concordia Laptop Orchestra (CLOrk) est un grand ensemble de musicien-ne-s (20 à 25) jouant de l'ordinateur portatif ; l'ensemble est issu d'une classe du programme en musique électroacoustique du département de musique de l'Université Concordia. Le cours se développe à travers une production participative et la réalisation d'activités interdisciplinaires et de performances en réseau.

Le processus de création et d'interprétation est hautement collaboratif et adaptable aux intérêts particuliers des étudiants et aux particularités des performances du CLOrk. Depuis ses débuts, le CLOrk a collaboré avec des orchestres symphoniques, de chambre, de jazz, ou de laptops, mais aussi avec des solistes, des danseurs, des VJ, etc. Chaque nouvelle collaboration permet à l'ensemble de mettre à jour ses modes d'interaction, sa technologie, ses approches de l'improvisation et son expression musicale.

Tidal Flow (2016) 20'
Une comprovisation collective co-composée pour Akousma par tous les membres de l'orchestre, mettant de l'avant la grande diversité des textures et des dynamiques possibles avec un orchestre mixte (numérique/analogique/acoustique) d'une vingtaine de personnes. L'œuvre se construit par des interactions orchestrales qui oscillent entre l'équilibre et la fracture, entre le collectif et l'expression individuelle.

Established in 2011 by Dr. Eldad Tsabary, Concordia Laptop Orchestra (CLOrk) is a large laptop ensemble (20-25 performers), which operates as a course for advanced electroacoustic majors at Concordia University’s Music Department. The curriculum is built around highly participatory planning, production, and realization of innovative interdisciplinary and networked laptop orchestra performances within an action research framework.

The process of creation and performance is highly collaborative, transformational, and adaptable to students’ interests and abilities and to the varying contexts of CLOk’s performances. Since its establishment, CLOrk has collaborated with symphonic, chamber, jazz, and laptop orchestras; soloists; dancers; VJs; and others; always updating its modes of interaction, its technologies, improvisational approaches, and musical expression.

Tidal Flow (2016)
A collective comprovisation co-composed for Akousma by all performing members of the orchestra, featuring the wide dynamic and textural range possible with a mixed digital/analog/acoustic orchestra of 20 performers. The performance features an orchestral interplay between balance and disturbance, between collective and individual expression.
