It evolved out of a boogie woogie piano riff I was messin' with.  Hope you dig it!

I wrote this song after learning that Lady Gaga had cancelled her  Middle East concert due to terrorist threats.
It blew my mind that people threatening in the name of their "God" could impede artistic license on such a large scale.
"Love's presence is wrapped inside out. Can't judge a smile by the shape of its mouth. Kneel down to reach the sky's glistening mosaic of shattered lives."

This song addresses addiction as it relates to domestic violence. It is based on a true story. My heart goes out to anyone suffering the horrors of drug and alcohol abuse, family and loved ones who are impacted as a result.
When I played this song for a group of teens at Dusquene University in Pittsburgh (while on a Martin Guitars scholarship via Women In Music), it led to a long group discussion. Thereafter, I began my Music Cool Songwriting initiative. Having lost my youngest brother to a Heroin overdose, I was driven to teach the craft of songwriting to impart healing for at risk youth.

I could never hope to incorporate all of 
my valid achievements on one page.
Nor would these character building experiences be deemed "socially acceptable!"

Sullivan Street Serenade is from Val Kinzler Band's "Nothing Sacred About Hatred" record. It's an imaginary journey paying homage to Greenwich Village artists, musicians and street people stricken by the high cost of low living. The song's muse is a metaphor celebrating  poetry in commotion and creative serendipity that so beautifully characterizes New York City!

This song was featured in the #Childrenofwoodstock documentary filmed for  the BBC. 
Recorded at Smash Studios in NYC
On my way back home on a  misty evening, I walked by a woman's ground floor apartment window on East Third Street. Her spirit entwined within mine. Wrapped inside a shawl, seated in her rocking chair, swigging on what appeared to be a bottle of wine, I sensed she was lonely. New York City is fraught with many elderly, lonely souls.
My heart went out to this stranger behind metal bars and soot soaked glass. So many elders in our society are thrown on a scrap heap, stripped down like stolen cars and forgotten forever.
I couldn't get her image out of my mind. This became the title track of my debut record which Genya so brilliantly captured! I'm also honored that she felt inspired to join me on backing vocals. 

"As the radio cries out her favorite song, she leaves the room cuz it's been way too long. Second hand furniture, T.V. and wine..... I'm outside her window she's inside my mind."
