I was visiting my Mother over the holidays and stumbled upon another old picture from my early childhood. If you have ever listened to any of my earlier Gospel House sets you've heard me mention my maternal Grandmother. Well here's a pic of us about to board my very first flight to head down south from Detroit to visit her siblings in TN when I was maybe 2 years old. When I saw this grainy old photograph I knew I had to start this year off with a set filled with some uplifting Gospel House "gems" to get us ready for 2024! Enjoy...

This mix is a slight departure from my norm. The first song in the set "I Get Moody Sometimes" by the late great Amp Fidler (A musical legend from my hometown of Detroit) definitely sets the tone. The song is slow and funky and features another Detroit icon "Moodyman." This musical mood might require a nice candle light, a smooth beverage and a really cool space. I am still inspired from my New York trip as I had a couple of these songs playing in my headphones as a traveled around town last December. "Full Moon" by Mr. Fingers was definitely one of them and it stayed on repeat that weekend. (Woooo) I started to pick up the pace and get a little Soulful towards the end and I will for sure pick that vibe back up on my next mix, but in the meantime I hope you guys Enjoy!!!

I was thinking about the time I first heard the name Luther Vandross. It was probably 1981 or so, although I would later find out that Luther had begun his musical career in the 1970's, providing backup vocals for any and everyone. My Mother had lots of records that I would later discover LV sang backup on. But it was an album by the group "Change" that I bought in the early 80's when I first fell in love with DJing, when I flipped over the record and read that Mr. Vandross was the lead singer on my two favorite songs in this now Disco Classic album: "Searching" and my favorite "The Glow of Love" which will be featured in this mix. This set features some of Luther's biggest hits as well as some of his lesser known songs but it's going to be fun. I'm not really sure what's been bringing me back to this Luther vibe that I've been feeling lately but I'm really diggin' it... Enjoy!!!
