Located on Valaam archipelago in the north of the lake Ladoga, Valaam monastery is one of the oldest, biggest and most respected in Russia. In 1991 during the period of renaissance after the Soviet times the monastery began involving professional singers to help singing the church services. The permanent professional choir which included the best choristers from St.Petersburg was founded in 2005. The sound of the choir is quite unique. The wide variety of voices from the deep bass-profundo to the highest tenor-altino provides the unique sound palette
