Soul Clap Records' resident butterfly spreads his colorful wings revealing The Stalker EP, a body of truly sophisticated music. Written at home in his San Rafael studio Nick Monaco combines his vision for dance music futurism with his roots in 90's pop and psychedelic rock. The result is three wild and original songs: "The Stalker", a psychedelic dance with a sonic theme, "Boy Meets World", a throwback 90's party jam that channels Deee-Lite and would make Malcolm McLaren smile from the heavens, and "Night Shift" a smooth bass driven deep house groove, brimming with creativity and only available on the vinyl. To round out the EP we call in remix contributions from ourselves (Soul Clap) on the classic New York tribal house tip; Boston Crew Love representative Tanner Ross on his signature spaced out hip-hop tip, and French G-Funk futurist Wadz on that gangsta tip.

Here's the scoop from Nick Monaco himself:

"I was visited by my muses one ordinary evening in my studio just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Feeling distant from characterless electronic sounds, they let live drums and real instruments be the backbone of the instrumental, feeling inspired by Laid Back and Dire Straits, I added my vocal. Only a few hours later, The Stalker came to life like Frankenstein, eager to creep into your soul and amuse. The b-side "Boy Meets World," is a response to "Naked Is My Nature," my first ep on Soul Clap Records, which saw a young boy spilling his heart on wax. After nearly a year of touring all over the world, my cocoon has been cracked and the butterfly is spreading his wings. Nice to meet you, young world."

The story behind this record begins in 2004 on Newbury Street in Boston Massachusetts. Juice Belushi founding member Paul Foley is dressed head to toe in 80's regalia, including vest, fingerless leather gloves, fedora and chain connecting nose-ring to ear pierce. Its like a scene out of Michael Jackson's Bad, minus the dancing.  At his feet is a boom box blasting freestyle and 80's electro-funk, he's handing out mix cds. Needless to say we're intrigued!

Fast forward a decade and we're proud to share this underground story in its incredible musical format thats about as Boston as "Pahking Ya Cah fah a bowl of clam chowdah with Whitey Bulgah".

JUICE BELUSHI is Paul Foley and James Trocano's latest musical endeavor. Juice Belushi means absolutely nothing, and quite frankly, sounds like a moniker for a couple of dip shits. However, despite the absurdity of the name, the music created is at an Investigation Discovery Network level of seriousness. Their production style of sampling, chopping and layering is deep-rooted in the traditions of Hip-Hop's hallowed golden era (The Bomb Squad, Marley Marl, Prince Paul, SD50's), while the actual aural output of these productions evokes the spirit of early to mid-90's deep house (Larry Heard, Blaze, Kerri Chandler, Romanthony). In order to achieve this authentically classic sound, they sample exclusively from actual vinyl records and furthermore, they do not use computers; in fact, they never have. They have only very recently learned how to send emails and use the Google. They still have no idea what MIDI cables are used for. Juice Belushi takes you back to a simpler time when enthusiastic amateurs could trip over a drum machine, bump their elbow on a synthesizer and in doing so create something interesting and beautiful.

When we started throwing our Dancing On The Charles parties next to Boston’s most famous river back in 2008 we had no idea it would become the inspiration for a now annual music compilation showcasing the immense talent of Boston's electronic music producers. In fact we had no idea we’d ever even have our own record label! Yet, here we are in 2014 proudly presenting the second edition of DOTC. A collection of music embodying the spirit and persistence that once fueled those epic riverside summertime parties and continues to guide the Boston dance music scene.

Dancing On The Charles Volume 2 picks up where Volume 1 left off and features an even more diverse range of music. An overall deep feeling is this years’ theme as we dive into a 13 track selection from repeat contributors and new Soul Clap Records recruits. Returning to the comp is quickly rising deep house talent Caserta, our favorite afro-funk producer of 2013, Bosq (who has teamed up with us, Soul Clap), Bon Jonson (this time appearing as Nightriders AND Peyote Purple), Tate Masimore aka Chas Bronz (who presents his new project The Sheffield Boys with young guns Smeed & Suspence), and of course the smoothest of the smooth Roldy Cezaire. New artists include: Boston tech-house staple Tamer Malki, former Phoenix Landing resident D-Lu (this will be her very first release!), disco-connector Serge Gamesbourg and all around disco dude Brenden Wesley, Tuck Diggz (working alongside Mystery Roar) and new Boston transplant James Cook who we've been following since his college days and are finally getting out on our label!

Time flies when you’re having fun. Six more years can blink by and who knows where we’ll be. One thing’s for sure, we’ll never forget where we came from and Dancing On The Charles Volume 2 is our latest tribute to our hometown.
