On the 70th episode of the MindTrip podcast, we welcome one of Brazil's finest techno exports, The Lady Machine. Born in Rio de Janeiro and based in Berlin, Camilla has been involved in the electronic music scene for the last 20 years mainly as a purist vinyl DJ.
Her sound is based on a complex structure of rhythms with dark synth lines and rich textures, while her versatile sets are characterized by her precise mixing technique and exceptional track selection. She is a resident DJ at Berlin's famous Pornceptual nights and you will probably enjoy her sets at a club somewhere close to you if you haven't already. As a producer, you can find her on labels such as Mote Evolver, Token, Symbolism as well as on Unterwegs, her own record label along with Decka.

A veteran of improvised live sets, Nntblst has extracted from his sessions “After me, the deluge”, the first EP of Machine Ouverte. We are proud to present this raw hypnotic techno release with a very personal universe.

Following the artistic direction of the label, the EP was composed and recorded live, the edit is only there to polish and make the set shine. Composed on a small modular case, Nntblst shows us a perfect mastery of his instrument.

The EP is composed of 5 tracks that form a coherent and flawless whole. We navigate through gritty and enchanting atmospheres, contrasted by a thumping intensity throughout the listening.

“When I am dead” welcomes us with its kick wrapped in a groovy reverb, held by a tense and excited rhythm. The spirit of the EP is already there, hidden behind a few notes of synth with a scraped texture, as haunting as desired.

“The deluge May Come” is supported by a solid rolling bass that warns us of the upcoming tension. A “straight to the point” track, full of “ear candies” that we savor with delight.

With its broken techno beat, “For Ought I Care”, is a beautiful tour de force: a tension that keeps increasing, where each part of the track makes us climb one more step, in the middle of its obsessive synth line, to end in a slow and magnificent deconstruction (or destruction?) of its texture.

With “Ruin”, we descend back into a mental and throbbing atmosphere. Its background rhythm runs like a compulsive horse and keeps us on tenterhooks. A striking track with as its climax an absolutely mind-blowing suspended break, led by a beautiful distorted feedback that gives goosebumps.

“Dead and Gone”, a condensed version of the EP’s spirit and energy, is a dancefloor killer. Driven by a roll of distorted toms in a slight delay, quickly joined by the off-beat ride, the track unfolds at the whim of totally hypnotic synth line. Nntblst shows us once again his keen sense of the break with a transposition that makes the head spin to start again in full force. We love it. This last track brilliantly concludes the journey we have been embarked on.

“After me, the deluge” is undoubtedly a mature, rich and striking EP that we can’t wait to hear in the darkness of the dance-floors.

Nntblst - After Me, The Deluge EP SNIPPETS

EP composed with a synthesizer mainly made of Verbos Electronic modules. This configuration inspires me the "verb" (Verbos in Spanish). The verb designates the set of words that express the action or state of the subject. Each module then becomes a syllable, a word, a vocable, developing a language. It becomes a verb that can be varied, declined, conjugated. Each track of the EP is a personal pronoun activating this language and expressing the action or state of its subject.

Fascinated by the hypnotic power and physicality of the sound they produce, Valentin Rocher plays electronic music on modular synths. Parallel to the live project Silicon Vallée with Fausto, he explores his instrument in search of the accident, playing with the digressions it allows. He distorts the sound by hand with sensitivity. Surprises and the unexpected are the driving force behind his playing and compositions. He takes us with generosity in his soundscapes where we walk with curiosity.
