FRANKLIN DE COSTA has been around for a long time. Moving on from wonky techno in his early productions to house and minimal funk in the 2000somethings, he has recently turned back and forged ahead into more experimental techno fields. His collaborations with DJ SPIDER for Killekill were one result of this development. His redefined sound as a dj another one. Last but not least he has also joined the Killekill booking roster recently.

Enjoy this DJ set of his, which Franklin recorded at the Munich club MMA on the 10th of April 2015, taking you on a trip through the various musical dimensions of his musical world.

Having shined a light on a number of lesser known DJs and producers, we now turn to one many people know and love: Mr Roman Flügel. The German producer has amassed a enviably varied discography over the last twenty years. With various different monikers from Acid Jesus to Eight Miles High, Warp69 to Alter Ego, he has turned out acid, techno, electro, IDM, artful electronic sounds and more unnamable genres beside. As well as co-founding three labels in Ongaku Musik, Klang Elektronik and Playhouse, he has released on Dial, Cocoon and Live At Robert Johnson, sis a veritable pillar of the global underground scene. 

The mix we have from him is a live recording of his set at Lente Kabinet from back in May 2015. As such it is a two hour ride through his singular sound that effuses colourful synth lines and kinked drums, at one moment gliding along an airy groove before then sinking down into a gritty and mechanical world of grinding gears and punchy kicks. Few DJs take as many risks, and pull them off as successfully as Flügel, so this is a real treat indeed.

Simona Calvani, aka DJ Red,is a Rome-Berlin based DJ producer. She can be considered as one of the most influential DJ in the Roman techno scene in the last 10 years. She has a residency at Goa Ultrabeat in Rome . After spending several years absorbing music trends in some of Europe most prominent club scenes, she eventually decided to settle in Berlin where she’s now producing music for label such as BPitch Control and Electric Deluxe. DJ Red is one of the few DJs around that still relies on vinyl for her DJ sets; she has a true love for the format, which guarantees a constant degree of originality during her performances.

For a job that’s so dependent on aviation, a lot can go wrong for a DJ in the airport. Apart from losing a record bag in transit, one of the biggest fears you can have as a touring artist is finding out your flight’s been cancelled.

This is exactly what happened to Paula Temple on the night of her first appearance with us back in May. When her Saturday evening flight from Glasgow was called off at late notice, the odds of her making it down to London in time were stacked against her. 

The stars aligned when she found out Levon Vincent also needed to make the same journey, and the pair embarked on an ambitious 8-hour car journey to London. When she finally pulled up on Charterhouse Street 10 minutes before her scheduled set time, we were already impressed before she’d spun her first track.

As it turns out, she then delivered one of our favourite club debuts of the year. Taking rein of Room Two in the peak of the night, her selections were equal parts heady and destructive, delivered with a surgical approach that only comes with an absolute grasp of the craft. 

On New Year’s Eve we invite Paula Temple back to Farringdon, and as the year draws to a close we felt it as good a time as any to look back on her transcendental debut at the club. Speaking of the set, Temple told us: “The long journey to the club was rewarded a thousand times over by how well everyone received my set. It made me very happy to be at fabric!”

On New Year’s Eve,  we had something very special. 150 invited guests. 5 hours of never-ending journey by @FlorianRietze, and, of course, a kaleidoscope of endless emotions that made the night the best thing that could happen to the family in the very beginning of 2018.
