It's a decent representation of me behaving myself and in non-confrontation mode, sticking to a script and playing primarily brand new rap of the era. "Some time in 1985, I stumbled across a station playing 'The Roof Is On Fire' by Rock Master Scott & The Dynamic Three, cursing and all. Thus began my initiation into the world of college radio. The first DJ at KDVS to have a rap show was named Oras Washington, and he became an important mentor. I made this brief mix and rode my bike down to the station to hand-deliver the tape. It's pretty rough, but it's a good snapshot of what I was into: East Coast and West Coast rap (not to mention a bit of London) and some James Brown thrown in for good measure."- DJ Shadow

All of us were crammed into a tiny session room, and went live right to air...no mistakes allowed. This was probably my favorite era in which to DJ, everyone was still using vinyl exclusively and just having fun, scratching like mad. It was me and Chief XCel on the turntables, and Gift Of Gab, Lyrics Born, and Lateef The Truthspeaker on the mic." - DJ Shadow

"Zane and the Apple team politely extended a promotional opportunity around the release of 'The Mountain Will Fall' in the form of my own Beats1 mini-series. Each show was designed to illuminate the listener to different facets of my career up until that point. I basically had three hours to bring people up to speed so that the new album had context. At one point they asked me what I was going to name it, and I had a funny picture of a guy in my phone, so I used his image and added the hashtag '#Radioface,' for whatever reason. The name didn't really stick, but it was fun putting these together. "- DJ Shadow

"In 2009, I was asked to play the video game convention E3 in support of the release of Activision's DJ Hero. There were only two rules: include some of the mash-ups I made for the game, and no cursing please. I obliged (mostly), and there's some fun moments....recorded several months before the 2009 Halloween set, this is less about the dance floor than an attempt to reference the broader contributions of the DJ and DJ-based music. Watch out for the Coldplay/Bonecrusher mash-up, which is one of my favorite things I ever did."- DJ Shadow

We had toured versions of the set on and off for nearly two years, and by this point we were pretty much at our peak.  Cut and I have occasionally discussed doing another 45 set, but we always come back to the same conclusion: 'We'll never be able to top The Hard Sell!" - DJ Shadow

"Shortly after finishing my 2016 album 'The Mountain Will Fall,' I was given the prestigious task of preparing my second Essential Mix for BBC Radio1.  It had been nearly 15 years since my first go-round, so I felt obligated to go all the way in. This first part was all about the new, showcasing my favorite underground beats & stuff.  As with my first Essential Mix, the gears shift radically at the halfway mark, so it seemed to make sense in a streaming context to let this power-hour stand on its own."

"For a brief time beginning in early 1991, for one hour a month, I was able to command the airwaves of the largest urban radio station in San Francisco...and my agenda was to bring the real.  These were among the first all-rap (no R&B, no crossover) to ever air on commercial radio in the Bay Area.  It was made on my 4-track cassette recorder, and I threw the kitchen sink at it.  Dedicated to my mixshow heroes who came before me: Michael Erickson, Dave Moss, Theo, Cameron Paul, Alexander Mejia, and King Tech."- DJ Shadow
