For Episode 2 we we bring you one of our original artists who has been there with us since the absolute beginning. 

Mike is a DJ and handpan musician from Melbourne who is set out to inject storytelling, meaning and emotion into his performances. 
HAFNER’s signature sound draws influence from native and cultural instrumental music from all over the world, as well as new percussive and bass driven downtempo electronica from labels such as Lump, Sol Selectas and Souq Records. Having performed at international festivals in the US (Burning Man 2017, 2019) and Croatia (Goulash Disko 2016), as well as a range of festivals and events around Melbourne such as Rainbow Serpent, Babylon, and Wildwood, HAFNER is truly one of the drivers of our sound.

For our first cocktail of the year we welcome Rolandson to the Schirmchendrink bartender team. Rolandson, a traveler through the sounds of this world, masters the art of storytelling like no other.  
He explored the depths of 90s Berlin dub & techno, the electro swing revival in Paris/ France and Brighton/ England as well as the downtempo and indigenous sounds of this world. And all of his experiences are reflected in his music. 

Today, Rolandson mainly travels on the sea: as captain of Seasidetrip, an outstanding podcast and netlabel, he chose the only possible drink for a real captain – a gin, what else? The combination with sourish slices of rhubarb is excellent to survive storms and heavy sea. But its also a perfect drink to enjoy on deck while the ship is slicing through calm waters. And this is exactly what we are going to do now! 

Let’s take it one gear down for our first mix in 2017 and put our glasses up to Rolandson’s Rhubarb Gin Fizz!

Was wäre wenn das Leben doch ein Wunschkonzert ist? Wenn man alles erreichen kann was man sich vornimmt. Wenn das Gerede von nichts ist unmöglich doch mehr als eine hohle Phrase ist. 
Du machst dir deine Welt wie sie dir gefällt.
Denn wie im Innen so im Außen.
Also fang an den Ballast abzuwerfen. Lass die Laster fallen und die Korken knallen.
Mit Sonne im Herz/Bauch sieht die Welt gleich viel bunter aus.
Dazu noch dieses Set, was brauch ein Tag mehr, er ist wie jeder andere, einfach perfekt.

Das Bild vom Kornfeld.
Weiße Schäfchenwolken bedecken den blauen Himmel. Nur hier und da lugt das Himmelblau verstohlen hinter der Wolkendecke hervor. Am Horizont erspähe ich die unscharfen, dennoch deutlich erkennbaren, Schatten der Berge. Oder ist es nur ein großer Berg? Schwer zu sagen...
Direkt vor mir liegt ein kleines Dorf, eingebettet in die von Wäldern durchzogene Landschaft. Zwischen den einzelnen Wohnhäusern mache ich ein Gehöft aus, die Geräusche von Nutztieren dringen bis zu mir herüber. Vor dem kleinen Dörfchen erstreckt sich eine weite Wiese. Im leichten Schein der Nachmittagssonne sieht das Gras frisch und kräftig aus. Die Wiese grenzt an ein Kornfeld, an dass Kornfeld. Der Weizen ist zum Großteil bereits geerntet und die beinahe mannshohen Garben sind über das ganze Feld verteilt. 
Und ich... Ich liege hier auf meiner faulen Haut, umgeben von Getreide und Stoppeln und genieße mein Leben mit einer gestopften Pfeife im Mund.

10 Jahre voller Freude, Farbe, Hoffnung, Tränen, Schweiß und ganz viel Musik und Tanz! Was am 1. Mai 2010 auf einer grünen Wiese im Prater begann ist zu einer bunten Bewegung geworden. Eine Lebenseinstellung, die jeden Tag aufs Neue gelebt werden möchte.
Wir bedanken uns bei allen die dieses Projekt ermöglicht und mit aufgebaut (und abgebaut) haben. Danke an alle Künstler_innen, an alle Lichtakrobaten_innen, Dekomagier_innen und wilden Tänzer_innen.
Wir danken allen, die mit uns an unsere Vision glauben.
Durch uns alle ist Wien bunter und lebendiger geworden.
Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass jetzt, mehr denn je dieser Spirit benötigt wird. Wien darf ruhig auch weiterhin aus dem Dornröschenschlaf aufwachen. Aus diesem Grund möchten wir auch in Zukunft mit euch gemeinsam durch den Tag tanzen!

Explorations 22 is brought to you by super fresh talent Mia Kober.

Mia Caught LO-FIs Attention with her warm debonair and kind nature, and after hearing her play a polished set at WALL TO WALL we were astounded to hear she has only been spinning for 9 months.

Mia's introduction to music was by her parents, being taken to festivals at an early age and being spoonfed Jazz, folk and more these influences brewed inside her mind.
Discovering the track Muse by Nicolas Jaar was the lightbulb moment and the first steps to electronic music enlightenment were taken.
Her quest took her to Europe where the chill stages of festivals was her education.

Mia has drawn inspiration from the likes off  Nicolaas Jaar, Clever Austin, Lui Mufata, Nils Frahm, Nikosh, Gary Clark Jr, Four Tet, Gidge, Lee Jones, Stimming, Arutani, Billy Caso,  Satori, Lemonella, flowers on monday, Groove Armada, Landhouse, Gaudi, Bado, Jean du Voyage... and from this her sound carries a warm emotion, with hints of melancholy.

Embedding herself in the Auckland underground scene it is her enthusiasm to organise events and lend a hand to those that need it that make her a pleasure to be around and her ease at weaving a soundscape makes her one to watch.

In her short career she has already played stellar sets at kiwi Burn and splore... and is becoming a regular on Auckland lineups.

For this mix Mia has put together a deep emotive offering..In her own words...

I spent sometime trying to make the playlist and have the mix be certain way but nothing felt like it was flowing with ease, so i ended  totally surrendering what it would sound like and just played for fun and myself dancing and moving and having a good ol time and that’s the recording I ended up with. Unplanned and just an extension of what i was feeling when I created it.  I think its good to have an outline but when we create with restrictions over what we are feeling in the moment it is harder to enjoy the recording experience. So taking a breath and tuning in to what I’m feeling in the moment is the approach that works for me.
