Splintter was told that he and the other Ratonga were destined to live in the Thieve's Way under Freeport forever, scrounging for food and copper. But Splintter had other plans. Always smarter than his brothers and sisters, he hid his potential for magic from them. One day, he cast a tiny spell that convinced one of his brothers to fight a slime in the sewer. His brother didn't make it, and Splintter was ostracized, kicked out of the sewers. While they saw it as exile, he saw it as freedom.

Wandering around West Freeport, Splintter encountered a dubious-looking Dark Elf named Davros. Initially thinking Davros was an easy mark, Splintter tried to take his purse until he saw the undead companion the Dark Elf used as a servant. Realizing the potential for learning magic, Splintter knew it was time to get some lessons. With his first magic book in hand, the Ratonga was on his way to becoming a Coercer, mastering the art of controlling others through spells and powers.

Splintter's charm extended beyond monsters; he could win over members of the Honored Legion with his friendliness and his rags-to-riches story. His matter-of-fact approach and ability to talk to anyone made him a valuable asset. Along with his colleague Davros, they now roam the world, seeking the best of the best to join the Honored Legion.
