That’s about right! Techno living legend Derrick May played Van Czar – Vapeur Tardive, out on Eyepatch Recordings, in his latest BBC – 6 Mix radioshow!

Along with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May is viewed as one of the founding fathers of Techno - a genre which has for a quarter of a century been constantly revolutionising electronic dance music and clubbing culture.
His seminal track 'Strings of Life' changed the game and sounds as fresh in DJ sets today as it did in 1987. In the words of Frankie Knuckles: "it just exploded. It was like something you can't imagine, the kind of power and energy people got off that record when it was first heard. Mike Dunn says he has no idea how people can accept a record that doesn't have a baseline."
Having taken influence from the likes of Parliament, Gary Numan and Kraftwerk, while helping to create a platform which made it possible for The Prodigy, Carl Craig and Richie Hawtin to make the music they have done - expect two hours of the premium music.

Bonzai Worx Volume 5

As vinyl continues its steady rise we are pleased to present our next vinyl release, Bonzai Worx Volume 5. After the success of previous wax releases we trawled through our catalogue and came up with four of the hottest and grooviest cuts to get the etching treatment. Tracks from Van Czar featuring Sugar Love, Ecco, Sa.Du and Alfredo Mena as well as a remix from Manuel Palmitesta have all been selected this time for their diverse ranges. Expect deep, groovy, sultry, edgy, gritty and downright banging tracks on this limited pressing.
Sa.Du's Imaging Your Self gives off deep and sultry sounds as a provocative female vocal swamps the vibe. Cool rhythms are formed out of a tight drum arrangement with punchy kicks and sharp hats. The bassline gels everything together brilliantly and on the break a female vocal comes to life with a huge diva-esque chorus, top notch production in effect.
Ecco's Switch gets the remix treatment from Bonzai debutant Manuel Palmitesta. The track intros with a punchy kick and classic percussion set up with an in your face hypnotic siren styled synth note that dominates the sound. A very subtle yet effective bass sits in the rear and binds the track together beautifully. On the break a techy element filters into the sound as the percussions keep the groove flowing before we slam right back into full swing with an air raid siren for good measure. Top notch stuff.
Alfredo Mena gives us his track The Scrawl with its full on techno vibes. A deep throbbing sub bass is joined by cool clipped kicks and a superb percussion line followed up with crispy clear hats. Cool vocal samples give the track a darker feel and makes this a strong favourite for the darker rooms. A big feature in the track is the expertly arranged percussion section, tight and to the point as various rhythms filter through alongside a more energetic secondary bass and a continuous metallic perc hit.
Van Czar joins forces with Sugar Love on Love Trip which intros with a tough bass sound and an enticing sultry vocal. The track settles into a full on Techno groove with punchy kicks and super crisp hats alongside that gritty edged bass. The vocals continue to lull you into their lustful grasp and adds a real dynamic contrast to the sound. A real powerful Techno slice yet again from Van and no doubt this one will see a lot of playtime.

Our next Bonzai Basiks release - The Force - comes courtesy of a fantastic collaboration of artists featuring Belgian DJ and producer Van Czar, DJ and producer Dantiez Saunderson and UK songstress Ann Saunderson. Van continues to lead the way in deep techno grooves and his tracks are always powerful tools in the mix for many jocks. After he joined Dantiez on their back to back set at this year's (2015) Legacy Festival, they decided to get together in the studio and soon after they started working on this fine cut. Over the last few years Dantiez has taken after his legendary father, Kevin Saunderson, and released quality cuts on several labels including Kevin's own KMS. The guys then decided to employ the soulful, gospel-esque vocals of Dantiez's mother, Ann. Back in 1992 Ann featured as backing vocals on the anthemic Pennies From Heaven by Inner City which was headed up by her husband Kevin, and went on to record several high profile tracks over the years. To keep it all in the family we get treated to a wonderful remix by the legend himself, Mr Kevin Saunderson who led the way in the early Detroit house and techno scene and gave the world some of the most memorable tunes ever with Inner City and others. 

The Original Mix delivers a wonderfully upbeat techno vibe with massive sprinklings of cool house flavours. Big chunky kicks pair up with sharp claps and shuffling open hats while the rhythm gets a boost from a top notch, tight drum section. A rumbling bassline rattles through the sound as the vocal starts to come into play. Warm chords fade through and we settle into the groove nicely before we get blasted with amazing retro style piano chords and a transformed vocal that will have you up and on that floor for sure.

 Kevin Saunderson's remix goes straight for the jugular with a monster kick on the intro that pounds out a solid techno sound. Perfectly placed vocals litter the groove and keep with the darker elements of the track. A deep, growling bass comes through and takes control of the groove and is soon joined by scathing gritty synths that rise up from the murky depths and take the track deeper into techno. A definite must have track for the purists that will get any floor moving. 

Van Czar turns up the heat with a double remix. First up is the Playa Den Bossa Mix which serves up a real nice treat filled deep grooving techno vibes that's come straight out of those late night Ibiza sessions leaving you frazzled and fully partied up. Punchy kicks and crispy sharp hats dish out a solid rhythmic flow to the track as tight drum patterns are let loose. Swirling synth chords stand out beautifully as subtle chord stabs hold back waiting to pounce while a slicing higher pitched single note cuts through. Top notch stuff you do not want to miss. 

We go deeper on Van's second remix, the Gladiator Cysxe Remix which delivers a more punchy sound with a darker techno edge that stands out brilliantly with its powerful grooves and superb synths that range from swirling warm chord to classic stabby hits. Along the way we are introduced to a much harsher synth that carries a brilliant techno vibe. Another sure fire floor filler that will appeal to many no doubt.

Nico Kohler - A Different Kind Of Madness (CZ)

Scottish DJ and producer Nico Kohler is back at CZ with the fantastic A Different Kind Of Madness. Nico is no stranger to CZ as he's already been on remix duty for Van Czar & Cysxe's Horny Acid Phone as well as an appearance on CZ Ibiza Summer 2016, but this one is his full debut and we've no doubt it will most definitely leave a lasting impression due to its deep techno vibe. The title track is also backed up with Dark Path and three top notch remixes from Protyv (two remixes) and DJ Cocodil.  

First up we have the Original Mix of A Different Kind Of Madness which goes deep, way deep into the techno abyss with a solid bass heavy kick drum and rib rattling sub basses. Cool metallic sounding synth one shots provide a hypnotic flavour to the sound as the percussion section builds into a frenzy. A serious slice of techno here that is not to be missed. Protyv is up on remix duty with the first of two remixes. No stranger to CZ, Protyv has already featured on several CZ releases as well as his own cut Organic. Here he takes A Different Kind Of Madness deeper into the rabbit hole with slightly more minimal approach. Nice chunky kick drums lead the way as a cacophony of percussions deliver intricate patterns to get the floors moving. Strange industrialised synths coarse through the sound bringing some wonderful textures that keep things dark, a superb effort that will not disappoint.

The next track is Dark Path which comes in three flavours, the first of which is from CZ regular DJ Cocodil. We've already had a taste of this guys work on his CZ debut Jubileo where he delivered a stunning deep techno offering. This remix also hits the mark with a stunning, driving techno beat to whet the appetite. Pounding kick drums get things started and these are soon joined by a sub rattling deep bass that will give any bass bin a run for its money. Cool crispy hi hats and a myriad of percussions are matched against some very cool synth work which fills up the sound making this one a sure fire winner on the floors. The Original Mix of Dark Path is aptly titled as we are led down a dark path to the depths of underground techno with a seriously raw vibe that will definitely appeal to the purists. A mesmeric driving force made up of a solid wall of beats, deep rooted basses and a sublime organic synth grabs a hold of your senses and thrashes you around into submission. Imagine this in a dark and sweaty room. A definite must have. Protyv is up with his second remix on this pack and he takes the Dark Path himself to deliver a super fine chugging slice of underground techno. A raw and energetic vibe comes of this one that will get people on the floors for sure. Tight drums dish out a rhythmic groove as adrenaline fuelled synths and a tough low end bass force you to move. A monster of a tune that is not to be missed.

Terrence Dixon - Test Track 4

Portuguese DJ and producer Diogo Tavares aka Protyv is fast becoming a regular feature here at CZ as he delivers his 7th slice of techno goodness for our listening pleasure, his previous outings here have included both original material and a raft of top notch remixes. It's no wonder this guy produces such quality, from a young age he was learning music from his family and by learning the piano. In 2004 he found electronic music and the transition was effortless given his talents from years of practice. Always great to see his work coming through the inbox and we're sure we'll see much more in the months and years ahead. Protyv enters an experimental realm here as three diverse tracks get underway. First up we have Stuck which intros with soft plucky synths before more sharper tones start to emerge. A nice and punchy kick drum soon follows and we begin a journey deep into techno that will hypnotize and mesmerize. Nice and tight drums seal up this stomper that is not to be missed. Next we have Psicadelia that sets out with a looping synth pattern as a rising FX ebbs and flows to the fading in hats and ultimately takes us to full on shuffling sequences. A pumping kick drum comes through and takes over the groove as each sound finds its place. Remnants of early techno characteristics are on display here making this a definite dancefloor monster. Rounding up this fine release we have Cien which takes an ethereal approach with surreal synths and rich fleeting pads. The intro builds and builds before a thumping techno beat takes over leading us into deeper territory. A superb slice that offers up a trippy experience, perfect for any late night set.

Van Czar and Protyv join forces on the superb four tracker Sand Memories and they sure do deliver the goods in style with two original cuts and two solid remixes. Van Czar is CZ head honcho and an all round Techno maestro. He has seen a plethora of quality releases on Bonzai Basiks as well as KMS and several other top labels. When he's not rocking the studio he's rocking a joint with his tight sets that keep the floors happy. Protyv is no stranger to CZ and his last outing - Bliss, gained great support. From a young age he was learning music from his family and by learning the piano. In 2004 he found electronic music and the transition was effortless given his talents from years of practice. Always great to have him back for more and no doubt we'll be seeing him again soon.

The Original Mix of Sand Memories takes us on a sublime journey deep into the inner workings of a subdued chilled out groove. A solid drum arrangement lies at the centre of the groove as it keeps a steady rhythmic pace. On the low end we find wonderfully warm basses that contract perfectly with mesmeric pads and very subtle hypnotic keys. Excellent stuff that will definitely be a welcome addition in any set. 

French brothers David and Nicolas Gaugain aka G-Prod return to CZ and it's been a while since their last outing here. It was back in November 2016 when we last saw them with the excellent Purple Maze. Here they take up remix duties on Sand Memories resulting in a sublime slice of Techno. On the remix the guys have once again proven their magic touch. A nice chunky kick drum leads the way alongside rhythmic percussions. The big hitter here is that hypnotic bassline that gets right under your skin with its soft alluring charm. Subtle melodies litter the background giving the imagination something to latch onto. Beautifully crafted and a definite must have.

The Lounge Mix of Sand Memories takes us much deeper than previous incarnations. Right from the off you get a tangible sense of depth thanks to that probing bass and low end pads filled with dark elements. An intensity is evident which builds slowly as the track progresses but, there is no release, that intense feeling stays the course making this the perfect fodder for any building set.Infinita intros with a beautifully crafted arrangement filled with shuffling percussions, hypnotic pulses and a mesmerizing pad that moves effortlessly through the sound. Fantastic chunky kick drums soon come through to provide a solid structure that will get the feet moving to the floors for sure. The track boasts a very rich characteristic which is shown through the ever rising pads and teasing melodics. Superb stuff that will not disappoint.

Van is back with another fine effort and this time he enlists the vocal talents of Bianca Neroca on CZ's 50th release Lolita Wants Something. Van is fresh from his last outing - Palomas Negra which took us to the arena while this one keeps us more rooted to the club environment. He recently remixed Dave Angel who we all know is a mega force within techno. But Van has aligned himself with many legendary names over the years including Kevin Saunderson and no doubt he will work with more in the future. Spanish vocalist Bianca Neroca enters the electronic music world with her first professional release. She has studied singing for 3 years and she lends her voice to sing at many events including parties, weddings and entertaining patrons in restaurants. We are delighted to have her at CZ and look forward to hearing more of her work.

The Original Mix offers up a solid techno stomper filled with phat beats and a chaotic drum arrangement that dishes out a tight rhythm. Deep rumbling basses mesmerize as they dominate the low end while a series of computerised sounds add a spacey theme to the groove. Amongst the haphazard display we find an infectious vocal from Bianca, wrapped up in wide reverbs and smooth echoes. The vocal adds character and depth amongst the superb techno groove making this an absolute must have track in your arsenal.

Belgian DJ and producer Looper returns to CZ on remix duties which comes after his debut with the superb Desert Highway. He is synonymous with dishing out quality techno which is very much praised by a plethora of DJ's on the circuit including Charlotte De Witte, Marco Bailey and Kundalini to name just a few. His works have seen releases on various labels such as Coincidence Records, BUNK3R R3CORDS, Bass Tune Records, CZ, Kaskaderi, Deflection Music and General Records. Here Looper delivers a stomping techno groove on remix duties. Right from the off we're locked into the vibe as thumping kicks with a bassy tone are met by slicing hi hats and the haunting vocal. On the low end we find a deep rumbling bass which is accompanied by a hypnotic synth note. A top notch arrangement that will definitely keep the floor moving.

Lastly we have the Instrumental version which strips out the vocal to leave a myriad of intertwining notes that form into a tight rhythmic techno joint. One for the late night parties here.

Michael Mayer - The Stickler

Guido Braun a.k.a. Waffensupermarkt returns to CZ alongside debutant SZMT with another full-on techno beast in the form of Larks Tongues in Acrylic which comes jam-packed with a host of quality remixes. Guido is fast becoming a regular fixture here and we&rsquo;re delighted with his offerings, his sound is just perfect for what we are all about at CZ. He has been playing rock, jazz and avant-garde music for more than 30 years. Nowadays he is mostly producing electronic music such as techno, house, electro and some ambient and experimental tunes. He has seen releases on a plethora of labels over the years and this one marks his third full release here alongside several remixes, great to see him back for more.
First up we have the Original Mix with its dark and chilling intro filled with eerie soundscapes depicting a horror scene image. The track suddenly drops into punchy kicks and deep rumbling basses, thrusting us deep into the belly of a solid techno beast. Rhythmic percussions slice through the murk while those eerie sounds swirl overhead. Powerful and infectious, the track takes us on an epic ride that will get the energy levels up and the party rocking. The Club Mix delivers a much darker groove with a more pumping beat and sub level basses. The epicness remains but this one is definitely for the headstrong out there.
Our first two remix artists are no stranger to CZ with both having been responsible for some of our earlier releases. Adam Carling is up first with his remix and he delivers a superb techno slice with a truly hypnotic vibe that locks us in for the duration. A real groover with some seriously mesmerizing sounds and a definite must have. The next returnee is Nick De Voost with his Exploration Beats Mix, the name really does the music justice here as Nick leads us on a wonderful techno expedition with break beats taking the lead. An electro vibe oozes from the track which is contrasted with experimental sounds and a cool plucky bassline. We go deeper into the rabbit hole as the layers build making this a groove for the late-night session.
The next set of remixes come from two CZ debutants with Dan Bay taking to the remix desk first and dishing out a wonderful techno joint. The intro boasts a cool percussion section which is joined by a nice punchy kick drum to make up a smooth rhythmic flow. Classic techno style synths weave through the sound as a deep probing bassline rocks the low end. The attention to detail is flawless on this one, play loud for maximum effect, you will not be disappointed. Next, we have a solid remix from Harakiri Brothers marking a real impressive first outing for CZ. The remix here is designed to obliterate the floors in any venue, big or small. Big powerful kick drums lead the charge as strong, rumbling basses shake the foundations. Sharp hi hats slice through the low frequencies while atmospheric pads create a rich tapestry. This compilation is the brain-child of our label head-honcho, Van Czar, whose vision for CZ remains strong.
Van is up first with Mbappe which offers a solid, punchy Techno joint filled with a rich analogue sound and accompanied by an array of interesting sounds. Ruben Losada follows with The Beyond, taking a more direct route to the floor with a full-on chugging bass and strong kick drum combo. Seriously rhythmic percussion play dominates as industrialised sounds run free. Red Alert from Missperception takes a tougher approach with a classic banging kick drum and heavily reverbed, shuffling hats and percussions. The mutated acid style synth is joined by gnarly vocals which make for a real presence on the floors. Icka Naraca&rsquo;s Acid Brain continues the acid theme with a more upfront 303 sound that transcends the groove effortlessly. Superb, punchy kicks and bright crispy hats deliver a pacey rhythm complete with iconic snares for that authentic touch. Technotemple from Djonah Laforge settles us into the deeper side of Techno with a simply outstanding construction made up of chunky beats and dark vocal snippets. Classic style chord stabs intrigue, giving the track a lot of character and making it a definite dancefloor destroyer. Adam Carling&rsquo;s Sweet Bells gives off a solid arena vibe with those monstrous kick drums creating a powerful vibe. Filtered synths and warped chords stand out with ease which will definitely grab the attention of the crowd. Such a massive tune here that will not go unnoticed. Waffensupermarkt is up next with Soily and, as you&rsquo;d expect, he knocks it out of the park with a tight Techno joint. Deep, dark and moody, the track draws you in with its hypnotic allure. Solid drums stack up alongside grizzly basses and intricate melodics. An epic slice that will not disappoint. Patrick Kuessner&rsquo;s Guten Morgen (Was Seventeen a Decade Ago Rework) rounds up this hugely impressive collection, and does it in style with a brilliantly constructed cut. Warm, analogue goodness oozes out of the track, creating a mesmerizingly exotic flavour that will easily translate to the floors. Van Czar grew up in Brussels, Belgium and he was very keen on listening and thinking about music. He is a versatile artist who produces what he feels in every moment. Detroit Techno and Chicago House sounds are at the forefront of his music vision. Van Czar has a special ability to engage with the crowd, he adapts to any kind of gig or event he takes part in and he loves clubby atmospheres as well as more hype events. He has played at ADE 2014 where he showcased Bonzai Basik Beats, ADE 2016 where he hosted CZ event and he performed a b2b with DantiezSaunderson at Legacy Festival (Belgium) 2015 where they burned the dance floor with a blistering set. He has managed to have his own gigs in IBIZA several summers in a row where he has played at Ocean Beach/Pearl and Es Vivé. Van Czar was chosen by one of the digital shops Traxsource among the best 100 techno artists 2017.

Van is at the cutting edge of a dynamic industry and he has the tools to stay there. His tracks have seen big support on the DJ circuit from artists like Derrick May, Ben Sims, Richie Hawtin, Joseph Capriati, Kevin Saunderson, M.A.N.D.Y, and more. On his releases he has collaborated with artists like Dantiez & Kevin Saunderson, Samuel L Session, Martin Eyerer, Orlando Voorn, Brendon Moeller and Marcin Czubala to name just a few. 

He was one of the top leading artists on Bonzai Basiks, part of the legendary Bonzai Records/Bonzai Progressive label family, with his tracks becoming some of the most supported among top jocks around the world. All this has led to the creation of his very own CZ label which is at home with the Bonzai family and Ibiza Boys with Top artists as Dave Angel, Tim Baker and Samuel L Session ...

Van was contacted by some distributors to create his own compilation label and this idea finally seduced him launching Van Czar Series with a plethora of great artists as Kompakt and its founder Michael Mayer, Gui Boratto, Sasha, Terranova to name just a few. VCS has rapidly taken off and it has got the support and respect of the industry reaching sales records. 
He also releases regularly on Kevin Saunderson's label KMS and he has releases/collabs on Ibiza Boys, Van Czar Series, CZ, Bonzai ... with well known artists like Robert Babicz, Ken Ishii, Terrence Dixon, Dave Angel, Tim Baker and many more ... 

His latest achievement is the brilliant remix of the Inner City classic "Good Love" alongside Samuel L Session with outstanding support, including BBC Radio and being played by the many artists around the globe. The very own Kevin Saunderson and his worldwide tour with Inner City has proven this one to be a winner.
