That’s about right! Techno living legend Derrick May played Van Czar – Vapeur Tardive, out on Eyepatch Recordings, in his latest BBC – 6 Mix radioshow!

Along with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May is viewed as one of the founding fathers of Techno - a genre which has for a quarter of a century been constantly revolutionising electronic dance music and clubbing culture.
His seminal track 'Strings of Life' changed the game and sounds as fresh in DJ sets today as it did in 1987. In the words of Frankie Knuckles: "it just exploded. It was like something you can't imagine, the kind of power and energy people got off that record when it was first heard. Mike Dunn says he has no idea how people can accept a record that doesn't have a baseline."
Having taken influence from the likes of Parliament, Gary Numan and Kraftwerk, while helping to create a platform which made it possible for The Prodigy, Carl Craig and Richie Hawtin to make the music they have done - expect two hours of the premium music.

Bonzai Worx Volume 5

As vinyl continues its steady rise we are pleased to present our next vinyl release, Bonzai Worx Volume 5. After the success of previous wax releases we trawled through our catalogue and came up with four of the hottest and grooviest cuts to get the etching treatment. Tracks from Van Czar featuring Sugar Love, Ecco, Sa.Du and Alfredo Mena as well as a remix from Manuel Palmitesta have all been selected this time for their diverse ranges. Expect deep, groovy, sultry, edgy, gritty and downright banging tracks on this limited pressing.
Sa.Du's Imaging Your Self gives off deep and sultry sounds as a provocative female vocal swamps the vibe. Cool rhythms are formed out of a tight drum arrangement with punchy kicks and sharp hats. The bassline gels everything together brilliantly and on the break a female vocal comes to life with a huge diva-esque chorus, top notch production in effect.
Ecco's Switch gets the remix treatment from Bonzai debutant Manuel Palmitesta. The track intros with a punchy kick and classic percussion set up with an in your face hypnotic siren styled synth note that dominates the sound. A very subtle yet effective bass sits in the rear and binds the track together beautifully. On the break a techy element filters into the sound as the percussions keep the groove flowing before we slam right back into full swing with an air raid siren for good measure. Top notch stuff.
Alfredo Mena gives us his track The Scrawl with its full on techno vibes. A deep throbbing sub bass is joined by cool clipped kicks and a superb percussion line followed up with crispy clear hats. Cool vocal samples give the track a darker feel and makes this a strong favourite for the darker rooms. A big feature in the track is the expertly arranged percussion section, tight and to the point as various rhythms filter through alongside a more energetic secondary bass and a continuous metallic perc hit.
Van Czar joins forces with Sugar Love on Love Trip which intros with a tough bass sound and an enticing sultry vocal. The track settles into a full on Techno groove with punchy kicks and super crisp hats alongside that gritty edged bass. The vocals continue to lull you into their lustful grasp and adds a real dynamic contrast to the sound. A real powerful Techno slice yet again from Van and no doubt this one will see a lot of playtime.

Protyv - Organic (CZ)

Portuguese DJ and producer Diogo Tavares aka Protyv notches up this superb three tracker - Organic - on CZ. Diogo started out in music from a very young age, he got his first piano before he was even 6 years old. He learned a lot about music from his immediate family and at 13 he got his first guitar and soon he fell in love with rock music. Over the years he taught himself basic notes, he was never formally trained in music. In 2004 he discovered electronic music becoming his new best friend. House, trance and minimal were the styles he was drawn towards and in 2012 he released his first EP, by 2015 he was mainly putting out techno. His tracks have appeared on various labels including Humman Records, Sector Four Audio, Frequently Music, Folt Records and more.

45441 is a dark atmospheric slice of deep underground sounds that will captivate from the outset. Consistent droning tones are evident throughout amid a backdrop of subtle FX and minimal percussions. Soft kicks and gentle hats provide the rhythms but it's the expertly crafted tones and superb probing basses that set this one on fire. Top notch stuff that and a definite must have track.

Organic intros with some cool sounds that gives props to the track title. Muted kicks come through alongside a nice open hat delivering a pacey rhythm. The kicks get a bit of punch as cool synths come into play taking the track deeper. Distant vocals fight their way through this minimalistic groove that mesmerizes every step of the way. A fantastic slice of techno that will keep the darker rooms pumping all night.

Acid Pattern slowly fades in with a bit of percussion and a glitching buzz sound before a monster kickdrum ploughs through and takes over with a dominant force. A twisting, morphing acid line is introduced and the track transforms into a frenzied, extra dimensional groove that grabs a hold of your senses without mercy. Drop this one on a packed floor and watch the eruption.

The ever impressive Majed makes his debut appearance on our latest CZ release with the superb Palmier which comes packed with 3 fantastic remixes. Majed and CZ label boss Van Czar are no strangers, the two have collaborated in the past with some stunning results. Their last joint venture was back in December 2015 when they teamed up deliver the Panimic EP which gained some great support. We're delighted to have Majed on board and no doubt we'll be seeing much more of his special brand of techno in the future.
First up we have the Original Mix that takes us deep into the techno sound with its pounding beats and tribal rhythms. Huge chunky kick drums lead the way and are backed up with a deep rumbling bassline as well as a super tight drum arrangement. The drums are the big hitters here, a cacophony of sounds converge into one smooth techno induced rhythm that will have you hooked from the outset. Over the drums we get a range of cool percussions that add so much texture to the groove. A monstrous wall of sound ensues that will shake the foundations in any venue.
CZ label found and Belgian techno wizard Van Czar is up first on remix duties and he proves once more the sheer talent he holds. Fresh off the back of his latest Bonzai Basiks cut - Take Control - alongside Acid Kit, Van never fails to impress with his brand of dark, rhythmic techno. Here on the remix he gets right down to it from the outset as he builds layers of drums to form a solid rhythm. On the low end a rumbling bassline does the business, drawing you in and not letting go. Tight percussions flow effortlessly through the sound as we go deeper into techno. On the break we get teased by heavily FX'd synths as that bass fades out before we get slammed right back into full on mode for the duration. Superb stuff once more, not to be missed.
Colombian DJ and producer Felo Rueda aka Juan Felipe Rueda also debuts on CZ with his brilliant remix. Juan became interested in electronic music around the age of 17 when he started going to Rave parties and clubs. He soon got into DJing and scored many gigs around his local scene. In 2013 he started to produce and quickly established himself as a top artist with appearances on labels such as Black Kat, BullDog Records, Dark Face Recordings, Phunk Traxx , KoolKatz Recordings, Funk' Deep, Jumpstereo, HardCutz Records, Magna Recordings, SubMerged, Nell Records and many others. His tracks have been championed by the likes of Richie Hawtin, who has a major influence on him as an artist, among others.  His sound goes from Tech House to Techno, with an underground style full of energy for the dancefloor. The remix certainly exudes an energetic flow with pumping beats and a deep underlying bassline that probes every nook and cranny of the sound. Cool rhythmic hats and drums provide a solid platform for the groove to take hold as the track intensifies with a little help from an intermittent rising synth. A beautifully constructed slice of deep techno that will definitely rock out any floor.
Portuguese DJ and producer Diogo Tavares aka Protyv returns to CZ for his second outing on remix duties after his debut - Organic - back in March 2016. Diogo is a gifted musician having learned piano and guitar from a very young age. On the remix we are taken deep into the groovier side of techno with some warm sounds and tight beats. The first thing to hit you are those drums, beautifully arranged to deliver a solid, flowing rhythm. A scathing, grainy synth line runs through the track accompanied by a sparse voice. The bassline stealthily comes into the sound and lies on the low end perfectly, delivering a warming vibe. Great stuff that would be a welcome addition in any set.

Jacknroll aka DJ and producer duo Vitor Tavares (Jack) and Roland Sousa (Roll) debut on CZ with the superb Day & Night which features 2 tracks in original format as well as remixes from Protyv and DJ Cocodil. Jacknroll started in 2011 when Portuguese friends Vitor and Roland got together and shared their musical tastes. They set out a plan to get their sounds into clubs and to control the night through a musical selection distinguished by original and classic sounds. Their sound is influenced by Techno, Deep House and Tech House, and it's their aim to evoke deepest emotions and make people dance. In just a few short years this duo have made a huge impact and bit by bit they are fast becoming one of the most renowned acts around. Great to have them on board at CZ and we hope to see more from them soon.

Cavione Day - Original Mix intros with a full on techno vibe as chunky kick drums are met with a deep rumbling bassline that sits poised ready to unleash its acid laced qualities. A tight percussion arrangement ensures the rhythm flows smoothly while some very cool FX litter the sound. This one draws you in with its retro licked vibe and locks you into a solid techno groove for the duration, top notch stuff.

Protyv's second remix of Cavione Day is his Intro Mix and is a stark contrast to his previous remix. The intro sets off with melancholic piano melodies coupled with an eerie atmosphere that dominates the background sounds. A beautifully warm kick drum comes through that almost floats on top of the wonderfully crafted techno soundscape below. The track evolves into a stunning slice of ambient techno that will most definitely appeal to many.

Cavione Night - Original Mix intros with a nice chunky kick drum and crispy hat combi alongside a fading in percussion pattern that piques your interest right from the off. A deep buzzing bassline fades in and takes hold of the track, solidifying its techno edge and locking us in for the duration. The shuffling hats and tight percussions keep the rhythm in check as metallic synths play their part. A nicely crafted techno slice that is a definite must have.

As CZ gathers momentum becoming a go to label for many underground jocks, we proudly present our first compilation featuring some of the finest names on the scene. Ibiza Summer 2016 captures the magic of the Island with a plethora of superb techno cuts from the likes of Dantiez Saunderson, FBK, BuRu,  Samuel L Session, Population One aka Terrence Dixon, CZ label boss Van Czar and many others. A stunning collection of deep rooted techno to funky techno and everything in between, this one should be at the top of your playlist for maximum effect on the floors.

CZ010 Protyv - Parabolica (Original Mix)

Nico Kohler - A Different Kind Of Madness (CZ)

Scottish DJ and producer Nico Kohler is back at CZ with the fantastic A Different Kind Of Madness. Nico is no stranger to CZ as he's already been on remix duty for Van Czar & Cysxe's Horny Acid Phone as well as an appearance on CZ Ibiza Summer 2016, but this one is his full debut and we've no doubt it will most definitely leave a lasting impression due to its deep techno vibe. The title track is also backed up with Dark Path and three top notch remixes from Protyv (two remixes) and DJ Cocodil.  

First up we have the Original Mix of A Different Kind Of Madness which goes deep, way deep into the techno abyss with a solid bass heavy kick drum and rib rattling sub basses. Cool metallic sounding synth one shots provide a hypnotic flavour to the sound as the percussion section builds into a frenzy. A serious slice of techno here that is not to be missed. Protyv is up on remix duty with the first of two remixes. No stranger to CZ, Protyv has already featured on several CZ releases as well as his own cut Organic. Here he takes A Different Kind Of Madness deeper into the rabbit hole with slightly more minimal approach. Nice chunky kick drums lead the way as a cacophony of percussions deliver intricate patterns to get the floors moving. Strange industrialised synths coarse through the sound bringing some wonderful textures that keep things dark, a superb effort that will not disappoint.

The next track is Dark Path which comes in three flavours, the first of which is from CZ regular DJ Cocodil. We've already had a taste of this guys work on his CZ debut Jubileo where he delivered a stunning deep techno offering. This remix also hits the mark with a stunning, driving techno beat to whet the appetite. Pounding kick drums get things started and these are soon joined by a sub rattling deep bass that will give any bass bin a run for its money. Cool crispy hi hats and a myriad of percussions are matched against some very cool synth work which fills up the sound making this one a sure fire winner on the floors. The Original Mix of Dark Path is aptly titled as we are led down a dark path to the depths of underground techno with a seriously raw vibe that will definitely appeal to the purists. A mesmeric driving force made up of a solid wall of beats, deep rooted basses and a sublime organic synth grabs a hold of your senses and thrashes you around into submission. Imagine this in a dark and sweaty room. A definite must have. Protyv is up with his second remix on this pack and he takes the Dark Path himself to deliver a super fine chugging slice of underground techno. A raw and energetic vibe comes of this one that will get people on the floors for sure. Tight drums dish out a rhythmic groove as adrenaline fuelled synths and a tough low end bass force you to move. A monster of a tune that is not to be missed.

IBZ04 6. Van Czar, Orlando Voorn - Exe (Protyv Remix)

Portuguese DJ and producer Diogo Tavares aka Protyv is fast becoming a regular feature here at CZ as he delivers his 7th slice of techno goodness for our listening pleasure, his previous outings here have included both original material and a raft of top notch remixes. It's no wonder this guy produces such quality, from a young age he was learning music from his family and by learning the piano. In 2004 he found electronic music and the transition was effortless given his talents from years of practice. Always great to see his work coming through the inbox and we're sure we'll see much more in the months and years ahead. Protyv enters an experimental realm here as three diverse tracks get underway. First up we have Stuck which intros with soft plucky synths before more sharper tones start to emerge. A nice and punchy kick drum soon follows and we begin a journey deep into techno that will hypnotize and mesmerize. Nice and tight drums seal up this stomper that is not to be missed. Next we have Psicadelia that sets out with a looping synth pattern as a rising FX ebbs and flows to the fading in hats and ultimately takes us to full on shuffling sequences. A pumping kick drum comes through and takes over the groove as each sound finds its place. Remnants of early techno characteristics are on display here making this a definite dancefloor monster. Rounding up this fine release we have Cien which takes an ethereal approach with surreal synths and rich fleeting pads. The intro builds and builds before a thumping techno beat takes over leading us into deeper territory. A superb slice that offers up a trippy experience, perfect for any late night set.

German producer Patrick Kuessner returns to CZ and one thing we've learned about this - aside from his outstanding talent - is that he never does things in small packets. His previous outing here (Free Mind EP) contained no less than five cuts and this time he gives us one more with the 6 track stomper Arcade. To top all that off we have enlisted the superb remix skills of Protyv making this a strong and solid release. In 2009 Patrick found himself intrigued by the famous TR-808 drum machine after reading an online article. After getting his hands on an emulation of this most famous sound, he then discovered the TR-303 and TR-909 and the roots from where the sprouted. Having cut his teeth in Autiotool he soon set up his own studio with an aim to create his own unique brand of techno and drew inspiration from the likes of Juan Atkins, Robert Hood, Jeff Mills and Terrence Dixon. A rising talent with a lot to offer, it's well worth checking this guy out. Portuguese DJ and producer Diogo Tavares aka Protyv is no stranger to CZ and this outing marks his eighth appearance here already. It's no wonder this guy produces such quality, from a young age he was learning music from his family and by learning the piano. In 2004 he found electronic music and the transition was effortless given his talents from years of practice. Always great to see his work coming through the inbox and we're sure we'll see much more in the months and years ahead.

First up we have the Protyv remix of Arcade Kick which intros with a very strong, punchy kick drum and cool percussion combi. A bubbling bassline rises up from below as the percs take on a more rhythmic vibe. Classic acid lines begin to fade in, teasing us with their squelchy goodness before fully unleashing and giving us what we've waited for. Top notch stuff, a must have no doubt.

Next up we have the second of three Protyv remixes, this time he gets to grips with Moog in what must only be described as a full on monster techno pumper. A tight drum section made up off powerful kick drums and superbly unique percussions lead the way delivering a cool rhythmic flow. The big focus here though is the minimal acid groove that runs through the track, even it its simplicity it packs a mighty punch that gives this one the edge, a definite peak time stomper.

Protyv's third remix in this pack is of 303 Made In Thailand and yet again we get a masterclass in the art of minimalistic techno with classic acid. The intro boasts a subtle two part acid section that is soon joined by a solid kick drum and shuffling hi hat combi. A subtle bass keeps us locked on as the acid begins to rise and dominate the groove. We get totally hooked on the mesmeric lines and patterns this one offers, this one will not disappoint.

Arcade Kick sets out with a superb kick drum that becomes the main focus of the track for the duration. In the background we find a strange, melodic sequence going off adding some interesting textures to the minimal vibe. An eerily beautiful slice, something different that will add an extra dynamic to any set.

Moog settles into a dark minimalistic hard hitting cut right from the off thanks to the bass laden kick drums and crispy hi hats. A simple synth sequence floats around in the back while some very cool percussive elements layer up. The kick drum alone will keep the party rocking, this one is a must have for sure.

303 Made In Thailand intros with a weird and wonderful acid sequence accompanied by cool percussions and a punchy kick drum. The acid melody keeps you locked in and becomes embedded in your brain while the rhythmic drum section keeps your body moving. The techno purists are gonna love this one.

Portuguese DJ and producer Diogo Tavares aka Protyv returns to CZ with his 8th CZ offering entitled Bliss. This guy is taking our blossoming label by storm with a raft of quality productions. His last outing - Stuck, gained great support and turned a few heads for sure. From a young age he was learning music from his family and by learning the piano. In 2004 he found electronic music and the transition was effortless given his talents from years of practice. As ever, it's a pleasure to hear some new sounds from the exciting producer.

Medication is a deep dubby slice of techno with cool vocals and interesting FX sequences. A nice and chunky kick drum leads the way with subtle hi hats on the offset. The bassline moves through the track effortlessly, drawing you in with its warming allure. A superb minimal techno sound that will draw a lot of attention thanks to that infectious bass.

Bliss opens with a cool percussion arrangement filled with rhythmic patterns. A melodic synth chord comes through alongside a punchy kick drum delivering a dancey club vibe. The groove intensifies as various effects are added creating depth and character while a subtle bassline lurks. A solid slice that will definitely appeal to many, not to be missed.

Cipalog intros with a fantastic, well rounded pumping kick drum alongside cool percussions. A pluck bass synth adds weight to the sound as that banging kick drum powers on. The synths build as notes are added while a mesmerizing sound sends the brain into overdrive. A very interesting slice of techno that will not disappoint.

Van Czar and Protyv join forces on the superb four tracker Sand Memories and they sure do deliver the goods in style with two original cuts and two solid remixes. Van Czar is CZ head honcho and an all round Techno maestro. He has seen a plethora of quality releases on Bonzai Basiks as well as KMS and several other top labels. When he's not rocking the studio he's rocking a joint with his tight sets that keep the floors happy. Protyv is no stranger to CZ and his last outing - Bliss, gained great support. From a young age he was learning music from his family and by learning the piano. In 2004 he found electronic music and the transition was effortless given his talents from years of practice. Always great to have him back for more and no doubt we'll be seeing him again soon.

The Original Mix of Sand Memories takes us on a sublime journey deep into the inner workings of a subdued chilled out groove. A solid drum arrangement lies at the centre of the groove as it keeps a steady rhythmic pace. On the low end we find wonderfully warm basses that contract perfectly with mesmeric pads and very subtle hypnotic keys. Excellent stuff that will definitely be a welcome addition in any set. 

French brothers David and Nicolas Gaugain aka G-Prod return to CZ and it's been a while since their last outing here. It was back in November 2016 when we last saw them with the excellent Purple Maze. Here they take up remix duties on Sand Memories resulting in a sublime slice of Techno. On the remix the guys have once again proven their magic touch. A nice chunky kick drum leads the way alongside rhythmic percussions. The big hitter here is that hypnotic bassline that gets right under your skin with its soft alluring charm. Subtle melodies litter the background giving the imagination something to latch onto. Beautifully crafted and a definite must have.

The Lounge Mix of Sand Memories takes us much deeper than previous incarnations. Right from the off you get a tangible sense of depth thanks to that probing bass and low end pads filled with dark elements. An intensity is evident which builds slowly as the track progresses but, there is no release, that intense feeling stays the course making this the perfect fodder for any building set.Infinita intros with a beautifully crafted arrangement filled with shuffling percussions, hypnotic pulses and a mesmerizing pad that moves effortlessly through the sound. Fantastic chunky kick drums soon come through to provide a solid structure that will get the feet moving to the floors for sure. The track boasts a very rich characteristic which is shown through the ever rising pads and teasing melodics. Superb stuff that will not disappoint.
