Residing somewhere in space between the planets of ambient electronica and mellow-mooded house lies the music of Sydney-based trio, The Nights. The group, originally assembled in 2013, consists of former PANAMA band member, Tom Marland, VIVID Live’s Rob Campbell, and producer/percussionist, Walter Flamenco, who all initially met through an Ableton school years back. Now, years after the project’s inception, The Nights are back in action with their sophomore EP planned for release this March.

Ahead of the spring release, The Nights have shared the second cut, “Other Issues”, from the forthcoming EP, which sees the trio fully enveloped in celestial synth work, driven by a gentle, sub-120BPM rhythm. The elements of the track beg for live play, which is exactly what The Nights plan to do with it thanks to their collective backgrounds in instrumentation.

while i was improvising during my last set i noticed these two songs combined very well and decided to go for this very simple mashup using other elements aswell to incorporate some beats and some depth to the sound and recorded live on traktor at home in under 20 minutes just for fun. hope you enjoy!

I Wish I Had

The Meltemi is the daydream of a couple of wog boys from the southern beaches of Sydney. Years of being hassled by the surfies for listening to Euro dance music, only fortified their dream of one day sharing a stage with ATB, Rui Da Silva or Darude. 

First meeting at a pathetically small club night in the basement of a Caringbah Businessman’s Club in the 2000s, Adam Bozzetto and Byron Georgouras shared an imagination of something far greater, and whilst Byron cued up another euro-house classic, Adam solo’ed away on a Saxophone like it was a beach in Ibiza. 

However, the pressures of growing up separated the pair for a decade, until 2018 when by fate, they once again found themselves behind a DJ booth together on a rooftop at the now infamous Señor Sundays parties. And The Meltemi began. 

Named after a hot summer breeze that blows across the Greek Aegean Sea, The Meltemi is a soundtrack to a Summer adventure. Reminiscent of the visuals and themes of the 2000’s, yet sonically inspired by artists such as Nicolas Jaar, Romare, Rufus Du Sol and Four Tet. 

Having released several tracks in 2020 that peaked the attention of Triple J, with The Aston Shuffle airing ‘Friends’ for a month straight whilst describing The Meltemi as “The most exciting emerging act to be coming out of Australia”. 

Since then the band played a string of shows including Falls Festival Byron Bay, however as the world changed, The Meltemi (like a European winter) shuttered the windows and bunkered down till we could celebrate life, love and adventure once again. 

The time has come, and in October The Meltemi begins to release the soundtrack to a warmer, brighter and more exciting future.
