For the first time ever, the International Library of African Music has been made available for artists to remix. Originally recorded by ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracey, 35,000 recordings were made across Africa between the 1920s and '70s. That alone was a staggering cultural achievement and, in tribute to Tracey's work and that of the artists he recorded, a raft of producers and artists have been brought in to reimagine the work for the Beating Heart - Malawi album (due June 3). Money raised from the project will go directly to helping the communities where the original recordings were made. Rudimental, Clap! Clap!, Kidnap Kid, Machinedrum, Luke Vibert and Throwing Shade have all contributed efforts but it was this version from My Nu Leng that piqued our interest. Taking an uplifting vocal chant, the duo build a devastating assault of low-end stabs and popping drums that explode violently across the track with each iteration. If you've ever caught My Nu Leng live, imagine that energy distilled into four minutes and 19 seconds.

NOIR sees the UK/ ITALY based duo, Invadehertz cross over to a fully Halftime/Hip-Hop sounding project that is deep, dark & soulful! The artists themselves have always been huge fans of Hip Hop, LoFi and Beats music but have never really released anything except a few tracks. These 4 tracks: “Blue”, “Noir”, “Dream Flow” & “Hypnotize” mark the beginning of a new era for them!
 
Invadhertz started to work on “NOIR” during the first lockdown in March 2020. The whole year had been tough on everyone and experimenting with music and taking time to study and learn new things proved to be the only solace.
 
That’s when they started to make a lot of drafts and then “Dream Flow” was the first track that clicked after which “Blue” and then “Noir”, followed. The first track made for this EP was “Hypnotize” which was actually an older draft that they started around 2 years ago.
 
All the tracks are half time tempo and they used a few Soul/Hip-Hop samples like pianos, vocals, atmospheres etc to create its general vibe. There is an integration of classic Hip-Hop kind of MPC drums samples and 808 drums running through the whole EP. The basses were made both in digital and analog so the songs could have more deep and soulful vibes.

Talking to Radiax is a reminder that some of the very best artists don’t need to be loud to make their mark. As someone who is calm, laid back and super friendly, he stands in stark contrast to the ‘in your face’ communique of so much social media today. 

Working as one of China’s top ghost producers he reserves his ‘me time’ for pursuing his own passion for bass music. A little more than a couple of years after appearing on the scene he has delivered a string of releases on Unchained, gained the acclaim of numerous tastemakers including London Electricity and Noisia, released with Hospital Records and has a ton of incredible forthcoming material loaded up for 2021 and 2022. 

His second solo release for Unchained, the CCTV EP, comes off the back of his monstrous Beijing Banger EP and features another six diverse, impeccably produced dance-floor tracks - two of which feature vocalists Swift and Leo Wood who are making their own indelible marks in the scene across multiple styles of Drum and Bass. 

Radiax artfully brings together the roller, stepper and halftime ethos into a single dance-floor release with satisfying pulses of techy dirt, funk and liquid all throughout.
