commandments that met their fate

fresh from birth
wriggling for the morning

flayed to the touch as a foal

and what it once was commands me

like the lyre bird
a toy gun or the sound of machines
fickle objects whose breath now permeates the woodlands
vain cries that covered up the silence
and smothered your word oh god
i miss the morning star

dream of prolonged moments
coagulated spit and pus on the floor
washed and washed again
