Time, for him, had ceased to exist, each second stretching into an icy eternity. He wandered endlessly through the universe, walking across the vast cosmic expanse, alone against the unfathomable void. During this time, humanity, left to its own devices, sank further into the depths of despair. The cursed artifact, source of all suffering, continued to cast its malevolent shadow over civilizations, crushing them under the weight of a relentless fate.

For Vano, this captivity felt like an initiatory trial, a test of his very soul. He felt as though a cosmic entity had chosen him to uncover a hidden truth beyond the tangible. Alone, lost in this infinite solitude, he fought against the limits of his mind, facing the vastness of nothingness, forging an unbreakable strength, like the stars that persist in the darkness.

Then, after twenty endless years, he was freed, without ever understanding why or by whose will. His return marked an epic turning point for humanity. Like a messiah returning from the depths of the void, he breathed new hope into the despondent masses, rekindling the flickering flame of hope. But this resurrection did not come without a price. Vano bore the scars of his isolation: a mysterious illness gnawed at him, his eyes darkening gradually, and inexplicable mood swings tarnished his resolve. Something, in the depths of time, had irrevocably changed him.

In a moment of great weakness, as the disease of the black eyes slowly consumed his mind and body, Captain Vano witnessed an act of unspeakable cruelty. Five humans, driven by primal fear and irrational hatred of the unfamiliar, savagely assaulted a unique creature.

They didn’t just kill it. They tortured it, laughing like beasts, tearing apart its fragile body and trampling it until its final breath. The creature’s screams echoed in the air, tearing through the souls of those who heard them.

Vano arrived too late. He froze, powerless, before the horrific scene unfolding before his eyes. Then, something inside him broke. His eyes, already darkened by the disease, turned completely black, as if an ancient, relentless force had taken control.

With slow but determined steps, he approached the five torturers. They had no time to flee or justify their actions. Vano killed them coldly, one by one, with a precision that seemed almost mechanical. Not a word. Not a hesitation. Only dark, merciless retribution.

The many witnesses stood frozen. Some out of fear, others out of a twisted sense of gratitude. None of them ever spoke of what they had seen. Perhaps they understood that the captain’s justice was necessary. Or perhaps they were terrified of becoming the next victims of his black eyes.

For Vano, this moment marked a definitive rupture with the man he once was. The shadow of the black eyes would never leave him again.

Two hundred and fifty years after the Great Chaos, the universe floated in a strange state of immortality. Aging had ceased, taking with it the usual temporal markers. While bodies remained frozen in time, souls still bore the scars of loss and conflict. In this reality, where even death seemed to have lost its power, Vano wandered, haunted by the tragedies of chaotic centuries.

One of these losses left a deep mark on him: Xar, a brilliant biologist and his longtime friend, had been killed during an attack led by Graigus the Mad, a warlord who was half-human, half-machine. Consumed by regret and anger, Vano found it difficult to free himself from this burden until one day, a mysterious call from the unknown resonated within him. Something—or someone—seemed to push him to act, to break free from his inertia.

Guided by this inexplicable urge, Vano volunteered to hunt down Graigus, an adversary no one dared to face. Graigus, gigantic and terrifying, was a being of metal and violence: four clawed arms capable of shredding anything they touched, a disproportionately large head with two yellow eyes glowing like spotlights, and two smaller shadowy eyes below. His mechanical facade hid a corrupted but persistent trace of humanity.

For months, Vano pursued Graigus across ravaged worlds, escaping ambushes and traps set by his enemy. This hunt confronted him with a troubling duality: an ardent desire for vengeance for Xar and Graigus's countless victims, and a strange fascination with the honor that occasionally flickered in the warlord's actions.

Their final confrontation took place on Exilion-9, a desert planet frozen in oppressive silence. Amid the ruins of an ancient temple, Vano and Graigus faced each other in a duel worthy of another era. Graigus's metallic arms unfolded slowly, while his piercing eyes fixed on Vano. The silence was shattered by a precise shot: Vano's laser struck Graigus's cybernetic shoulder, disarming the warlord without killing him.

Graigus, on his knees, slowly folded his arms in a gesture that seemed to betray resignation. His yellow eyes locked on Vano—not with hatred, but with an intensity that seemed to defy fate itself. Vano, his heart heavy, lowered his weapon. The anger had dissipated.

"You killed Xar… and so many others. I wanted to hate you, to destroy you. But your death won't bring anyone back. In this world where time is frozen, perhaps there's still a chance for you… a chance to do something right."

Graigus remained silent, then slowly extended a robotic hand toward Vano. Not out of weakness, but as a gesture of acceptance. After a moment's hesitation, Vano shook it.

This improbable moment sealed an unexpected alliance. Graigus, once known as "the Mad," became a loyal ally. Together, they began defending humanity against even greater threats. That day, Vano became not only "Captain Vano," but also a symbol of hope, redemption, and faith in humanity's ability to overcome its own darkness.

Thus began the legend of a man, lost and adrift, who found his path by choosing hope where many would have chosen vengeance.

Bodies remained unchanged, trapped in eternal youth, but minds continued to accumulate memories and pains.

Over time, many succumbed to a silent madness. Emotional scars no longer healed, amplified by an existence where every wound of the soul remained intact. Yet, amidst this chaos, a strange evolution emerged: human intellect, freed from biological constraints, developed exponentially. Geniuses appeared at an unprecedented rate, creating technological and cultural innovations that seemed to defy the impossible.

The first centuries were marked by a desperate struggle to adapt. Deprived of the ability to die, humans had to redefine their way of living. They built protected enclaves—bastions of civilization where advanced technologies stabilized the gravitational anomalies created by the Great Chaos. These fortified cities became sanctuaries, but at a terrible cost.

Machines were designed to extract energy from immortal bodies. “Conductors,” humans connected to these systems, powered the technologies necessary for collective survival. Although their bodies didn’t age, their minds gradually faded, turning them into hollow shells. These sacrifices, presented as voluntary, were often imposed by a ruling elite that saw these individuals as an infinite resource to exploit.

Despite these horrors, humanity experienced a golden age of space exploration. The gravitational corridors revealed by the Great Chaos opened pathways to the stars, allowing humans to expand beyond their homeworld. The first interstellar ships, powered by the energy of the conductors and built with the inventions of new geniuses, were technological triumphs. Yet, these advancements also highlighted the growing moral fractures within society.

Amid this tumultuous era, a silent resistance began to form. Some refused to see immortality as an opportunity for exploitation and started questioning the very foundations of this new civilization. These rebels denounced abuses of power, growing inequalities, and the neglect of fundamental human values.

It was in this context that Vano, still an ordinary man from Lille, began to feel the weight of this new reality. Though not yet the legendary captain he would later become, he observed humanity’s deviations with growing melancholy. At this point, he hadn’t yet found his place in this changing universe, but a spark was igniting within him. He didn’t know it yet, but he would become the symbol of human resilience—the one who would unite the shattered fragments of civilization to remind them of what they had forgotten: their humanity.

He is forced to acknowledge that humanity, with its inherent tendency to prioritize self-interest over the greater good, has betrayed the ideals he fought so hard to defend.

This weakness, rooted in the very nature of mankind, strikes him with full force. With each victory, he has watched leaders twist his efforts to serve their own ambitions, leaving collective suffering to fester. Selfishness, the thirst for power, and the inability to rise above petty conflicts render every triumph bitter. His faith in his mission falters as he realizes that his victories, far from bringing humanity closer to a brighter future, have only perpetuated a vicious cycle.

This dark period is exacerbated by the black eyes disease that consumes him. Beyond its physical symptoms, the affliction clouds his mind, provoking bursts of anger and a deepening cynicism. He loses himself in his thoughts, haunted by an obsessive question: can a species truly be saved if it cannot unite beyond its own quarrels?

When a call from his friend Graigue, the fugitive, comes through, asking him to intervene and avert a crisis on Orbis V, Vano hesitates. The endless cycle of human conflict feels unbearable. Graigue tries to convince him, insisting that without him, the world would be far worse. But Vano no longer hears these words as he once did. Human actions now appear to him as undeniable proof of their fundamental failure.

Torn between his duty and his despair, Vano cuts the communication, unable to decide. He remains alone before infinity, consumed by doubt, wondering if he still wants to be Captain Vano.

In this new adventure, Captain Vano ventures across sacred lands, forbidden to all but the fragile sand skimmers. For fifteen days, he journeys through breathtaking landscapes, worthy of the greatest westerns.

Gigantic canyons with golden and ochre walls stretch endlessly, their deep crevices whispering forgotten secrets. Infinite plains, swept by scorching winds, are dotted with improbable rock formations, as if sculpted by a divine hand. By day, twin suns dominate the sky, bathing the desert in a cruel yet magnificent light. By night, countless stars illuminate the dunes, occasionally accompanied by mysterious, dancing auroras.

Captain Vano also crosses dried-up marshes, where petrified trees stretch their skeletal branches skyward, silent witnesses of a long-forgotten past. Further on, towering crystal mountains, as tall as cathedrals, shimmer under surreal light, creating a visual symphony that both inspires and terrifies.

In this wild, untamed land, danger is ever-present but often invisible: the wind carries indistinct cries, shadows seem to shift, and sudden sandstorms envelop the world in an opaque veil.

His goal: to reach a mystical hermit, renowned for foretelling the Great Chaos without ever understanding the source of his visions. Today, this oracle feels an inexplicable calling: he must meet Captain Vano. When they finally stand face to face, the hermit reveals a troubling message.

"Your destiny is not here, Captain. It awaits you on a distant planet, where the ocean embraces infinity and the depths whisper forgotten truths. Djbaxx… Go to Djbaxx, for there, all will be revealed."

Why this planet? What force is guiding Captain Vano toward it? Only the universe knows.

The "Payum" (the "Messenger"), the flagship of intergalactic exploration, was slowly approaching its destination. Through the vast bay windows, the crew gazed at a shimmering planet, bathed in the bright light of a nearby star. Onboard, the atmosphere oscillated between excitement and apprehension. No one knew what to expect. It was a first in human history: encountering an extraterrestrial civilization.

Captain Vano stood in silence, his hands clasped behind his back, while Graigue the Mad, the former pirate and now invaluable ally, nervously scanned the screens.
“This kind of calm isn’t natural,” he muttered under his breath.
Professor Arkinor, standing nearby, was intently focused on the projected data, his concentration unwavering. Beside him, Torni, the great humanist philosopher, appeared lost in thought, his face illuminated by a glimmer of hope.

As the ship began its descent, the tension steadily grew. The crew, gathered in the main hall, stared at the screens displaying the planet’s strange landscapes as they came into view. A dense, almost oppressive atmosphere cloaked the surface. The vegetation—or what resembled it—formed chaotic patterns, and mysterious structures emerged on the horizon. A heavy silence settled over the room, broken only by the faint hum of the landing engines.

When the Payum finally touched down, no one moved. Outside, a thick golden mist swirled just above the ground, obscuring almost everything. The crew waited, their eyes glued to the screens. Then, within the shifting fog, shadows appeared.

The entities moved forward slowly, barely visible at first. Their movements were strange, fluid, almost supernatural. As they drew closer, the star’s grazing light began to reveal their features. The crew exchanged uneasy glances. The forms were grotesque, their faces distorted by features the human mind could only describe as monstrous. Their mere sight triggered a primal fear.

“If it’s a trap, I’m ready.”
Captain Vano, tense, hesitated to respond. He knew everything could fall apart in an instant. Even Professor Arkinor, usually unflappable, seemed completely stunned, his eyes wide like those of a toad under sudden pressure.

The entities continued to glide across the ground, their lower bodies concealed beneath garments that blended seamlessly with the mist. As they drew nearer, their grotesque and terrifying appearance became clearer. Their unrelenting approach heightened the crew’s anxiety.

The tension was unbearable.

And then Ambassador 1.618, a diplomat known for his audacity and humor, stepped forward. With an almost casual smile, he declared in a loud, clear voice,
“They’re hideous! … But not as much as my mother, and that doesn’t stop us from loving each other.”

A cold silence fell over the crew. Everyone froze, stunned by the absurdity of the statement. Then, as if a dam had burst, Graigue let out a booming laugh. His raspy chuckle echoed through the hall, quickly joined by the ambassador’s laughter and then the rest of the crew. Even Captain Vano couldn’t suppress an incredulous grin.

But the most surprising moment was yet to come. The entities themselves stopped and, to everyone’s astonishment, began to emit a strange, rhythmic sound. It was laughter. Alien, yet oddly human, their laughter was so infectious that it transformed the surreal encounter into a moment of shared joy. In an instant, fear and tension were replaced by a contagious hilarity.

This was the beginning of a new era, marked by a lasting friendship. And from this mysterious civilization would one day emerge the famous Different Brothers, the greatest players of human blues music the galaxy had ever known. Their music transcended species, reminding everyone that sometimes, a simple laugh can break down even the most formidable barriers.

It was a suspended realm, a place where time seemed to stretch.

The ship glided effortlessly, its engines whispering softly, as though respecting the solemn isolation of this place. The sensors remained unnecessarily active: here, nothing could truly be quantified. Everything was fleeting, disorienting. Undulating shapes appeared in the distance, creatures with blurred, phosphorescent outlines, vanishing as quickly as they came. Every movement was an illusion, every shadow a mystery.

The solitude was absolute. Vano stood tall, his gaze fixed on the expanse ahead. The cockpit's glass walls offered a breathtaking view of the liquid void, a shifting landscape where light and shadow performed a slow waltz. Yet this beauty carried a weight. It wasn’t a spectacle; it was a confrontation with infinity.

Onboard, the silence was crushing. Only the slow, mechanical hum of the ship served as a reminder of a fragile, living technology. Vano, however, needed nothing but this solitude. He was no longer a captain, explorer, or messenger. He was a soul adrift in an aquatic ether.

As he continued his descent, a strange sensation crept over him, a shiver unrelated to temperature. It was a presence, intangible yet undeniable, as if the ocean itself was aware of his passage. No sound broke the stillness, but a deep vibration seemed to pulse through the ship’s walls. Vano closed his eyes for a moment, letting his thoughts drift in the oppressive quiet. The ship’s sensors began picking up low frequencies, barely perceptible. A slow melody emerged, like a distant voice singing from the depths. It wasn’t an invitation, nor a threat. The Chevalier de Saint-Georges tore through space at dizzying speed, heading straight for Djbaxx, a planet covered entirely in water. No land, no islands—just an endless ocean, bathed in the crushing light of a colossal star. So close to its boiling surface, the star unleashed unbearable heat, sending colossal geysers skyward, rising into space before being scattered by solar winds.

Vano engaged the thrusters, piercing the atmosphere. Below, the ocean stretched infinitely, a liquid mirror shifting under the blinding light. He did not slow down. The Chevalier de Saint-Georges plunged headfirst toward the luminous abyss.
Then, the water stirred.

A colossal creature rose from the depths, its bioluminescent scales flickering like shifting constellations. Its immense jaws opened, ready to swallow the ship whole.
Too late to evade.

Impact.
The Chevalier tore through the beast, splitting it apart in a burst of light. A shockwave rippled across the ocean, sending towering waves outward. Schools of glowing fish scattered, casting iridescent trails through the water. The ship sustained no damage—its hull was unbreakable. The lifeless creature sank into the depths, its fluorescent blood dissolving into the infinite blue.

Then, everything changed.
The ocean wasn’t just water—it was alive.
The star’s brilliance penetrated thirty kilometers below, revealing an inverted sky, filled with drifting constellations of living creatures.

Neon fish swirled in radiant spirals.
Forests of glowing kelp pulsed with slow, hypnotic waves.
Colossal beings floated like ancient gods, sending out luminous signals in an unreadable language.
Vano, a traveler of infinite worlds, slowed down.
He let The Chevalier de Saint-Georges drift, surrendering to the currents. The water flowed over the hull, a shimmering veil unveiling the planet’s hidden pulse.

As he descended, the ecosystem revealed itself in layers—an intricate ballet of movement and light, each flicker part of an unseen harmony. Entire schools of creatures moved in synchronized formations, some spiraling around the ship, others fleeing, vanishing into the depths.
Then, the colors faded.
The vibrant, teeming world grew silent. The crystal-clear water darkened, thickening into an eerie twilight.
The dazzling beauty above gave way to an unsettling presence.
The currents shifted—colder, more erratic.
The shadows stretched below him, shifting, watching.
A shiver ran down Vano’s spine. Djbaxx had yet to reveal its true face.

Part 14.1 : Djbaxx and the Sea of Light

The Chevalier de Saint-Georges landed at the bottom of the ocean of Djbaxx, in an oppressive silence. There was no land, only endless water and distant echoes of underwater volcanoes. These volcanoes seemed like sleeping monsters, their distant rumbles like drums of a forgotten war. The ship remained steady in this vast oceanic world. Vano, alone on board, had prepared for solitude, but the reality of silence was overwhelming. Nothing moved except for the subtle movements of the ship.

Then, a vibration passed through the ship, like a distant song, a wave that echoed into his soul. A speech, almost human, echoed in his ears—Winston Churchill’s famous words: "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight in the landing grounds..."

Vano did not immediately understand what was happening. This speech felt out of place in such an alien world. Why hear these words now? Then another voice rose, more intimate: "Cross the black eye and fulfill your destiny."

The words hit Vano hard. He felt a shiver. What did this "black eye" mean? He didn’t know, but he couldn’t ignore the call, even if he didn’t understand it. After an eternity, clarity crossed his mind. He had to leave, find some clarity, escape the endless loop. He activated the ship’s engines and ascended toward Djbaxx’s surface.

He finally understood. Djbaxx wasn’t a planet like others. It wasn’t just water—it was alive, evolving. The volcanoes, geysers, and bioluminescent creatures were part of this life. Djbaxx was the opposite of the demi-god of destruction. It embodied creation, regeneration, not collapse.

Djbaxx, in its essence, was more powerful than he imagined. It offered life, not destruction. The volcanoes weren’t there to destroy, but to fertilize the universe. As he ascended, he felt connected to Djbaxx. This planet was a gateway to a future where humanity could be reborn in harmony with the universe.

He hadn’t crossed the black eye, but his destiny was now tied to this living planet. He had to fulfill his mission. But it wouldn’t be a quest for vengeance, nor immediate war. It would be a journey toward understanding, toward the reconciliation of humanity with the infinite. Yet something lingered in the air, a latent threat, an uncertain danger. War, though silent, was there, lurking beneath the surface, ready to emerge. But for now, Vano knew he had to focus on what he could understand, what he had t...

The Chevalier de Saint-Georges moved away from Djbaxx, its silhouette blending into the infinite expanse of space. Vano knew that what he had discovered was just the beginning. A new era was on the horizon, and his role in it would be greater than anything he could have imagined.
