In the dusty display window of an insignificant boutique stood the doll, made of fading porcelain, its glassy eyes forever staring into the void. No one knew who had created it, but its face bore an unsettling perfection—too human to be mere craftsmanship. One night, as the wind made the building's roof groan, a noise stirred within it. The voice was speaking in a language that knew neither time nor reason. With every word, an invisible thread seemed to tug at it. First, a twitch of its stiff fingers, then a ghastly creak as its head tilted to the side. Its limbs, motionless for so long, began to take on a sinister life of their own.

For episode 62 we present Spanish-born producer and DJ, Dip Shim/Digge Shim. He relocated to Malmö, Sweden a few years back and found his calling in the reincarnation of electro through his relentless output of acid-flavored 303 jams. Besides establishing the Malmø Traxx label he also ran the city's foremost record shop for electronic dance music.

Interview with Dip Shim: 

Q: What made you start DJing?
A: I used to play in a band with my best friend in Spain. My friend’s father, a well-known experimental music pioneer, gave us synths and an old CD with an early version of Logic software. One thing led to another, and we started producing music at a young age, spending time at record stores, DJing, and getting into clubbing.

Q: Describe your style in three words.
A: Detroit, Techno, Electro // Boom boom bap


Q: Your best set in 2024/2025?
A: Hard to say—playing a live set in Tbilisi, Georgia was amazing. for Dj set, My gigs at Inkonst feel always special, and it's amazing to play at home for the people I love.

Q: Where can one find the best falafel in Malmö?

Malmö Techno Tales Episode 62 - Dip Shim

For episode 63 we present EMPISH. She grew up with techno on CD since childhood and has had a solid interest in electronic music during her almost 30 years. Behind the decks she has tested different genres in techno during her 4 years as a DJ but has now finally found home to the more hypnotic elements, that we will see more of in the future. A few weeks ago she made her Stockholm debut with her biggest gig so far at UnderBron. Today she is also a part of Placebo Underground and brixx crew. The goal is to have her first EP ready by the end of 2025. A good swing is promised and the dance floors rarely stand still when both the track selections and her massive energy push us towards eternity.


Interview with EMPISH: 


Q: What made you start DJing?
A: Since I was young I always liked a unique type of electronic music then the other children and teenagers. I was always researching different music and I felt like people didn’t understood and enjoyed it the way I did so I’ve always wanted to find and discover new music and then make people feel what I feel when I hear it.

Q: Describe your style in three words?
A: Groovy, hypnotic and swinging.

A: Under Bron 21/3 B2B with psykoterapi opening for P.E.A.R.L

A: I have so many DJs that I would like to highlight. Jessie Granqvist have always been my favorite Swedish DJ and after that I explored Psykoterapi and lately we became very good friends as well.

Malmö Techno Tales Episode 63 - EMPISH

For episode 64, we presented Malmö-based Analog OwL.
I’m Patric, pretty new in Malmö. I moved from Stockholm, with the idea to come to a place where creativity has more space and artists are free to do their thing. 

I’ve been involved with music and the curiosity to combine their elements to create something that I hear in my mind, for a long time, but I didn’t have the right tools to make that happen. I began to look at videos on YouTube with live dj sets on vinyls, I saw Joris Woorn, playing the classic acid techno set from the 90s. After that I understood what I was looking for, that frequencie of the 303 machine making that acid noise. Then he played my today favorite artist of all time; Emmanuel top- Radio. Since then I’m collecting old acid techno tracks that have that same vibe. I continued to watch Joris live sets with his synths, there I got to know for the first time the 303 Roland. That’s where my passion to create and polish my own sound gave bird. With all the special artists I always listen and get inspired by creating I’m polishing deep and hypnotic elements, sometimes playful and this jungle feeling  from a tribe. All together with a touch of space travel at the same time. I’m still learning a lot, but I’m getting there and I have something to express for the world of electronic music. 

I’m grateful Malmö was there right place to be.

A: The curiosity of manipulating different tracks and creating something new trough specific elements of each one and the result of it.

A:  adventurous, deep and playful.

A: that’s hard for me to answer since every set is a different experience and adventure for me. There is no best or worse, just unique in every habitat.
