At this point a regular contributor in defining Token’s sound, Border One steps up for his sixth EP on the label in five years. As in many of his past projects, ‘Where is Now’ bleeds character through effect for a trip on the dancefloor. 

Establishing the ambiance of the record, Border One meets pace with depth in the titletrack A1. A pressing bassline and progressively squelching synth accents combine to press the dancefloor, decorated with flickering hi hats. The track remains a steady roller throughout while maintaining an underlying attitude that only adds to its initial drive. Focusing back his energy on percussion, Border One prioritises eccentric groove with insistent tone. ‘Time Drift’ reaffirms his minimalist approach to the EP, only inviting anxious drum sequences with rising rides in the second half. The portal opens steadily in ‘Time Drift’, establishing a slightly more meditative tone than he’s done in the past. ‘Echo State’ returns to resonance, a sound well fit for the label. With quick loops and a heavy focus on the hypnotic, in a dancefloor-commanding kind of way, the Belgian artist gives his signature sound that rolls effortlessly off of well tuned soundsystems. With a tight grip on the track’s pressure, Border One transitions into the final track ‘Split Recall’. Here, he finds a direct path through a heavily psychedelic landscape. Bringing in occasional high pitched synth sequences and cutting through claps while the stereo field turns and evolves, Border One creates a closing track with attention to detailing his arrangement and variance. Rolling off in one section to stomping through others, the Belgian artist proves once more that his sound continues to be reinvented throughout his work.

Hüseyin Evirgen is a composer, producer, and DJ working under the name Magna Pia since 2016. As a former member of the duo Cassegrain, he’s been part of the techno scene for over a decade. His solo work blends driving rhythms with spatial textures and unorthodox sound design. With releases on labels like Counterchange, Konstrukt, Soma, and Arcing Seas, Magna Pia explores ways to connect modern techno with archaic symbolism and archetypes, without losing focus on the dancefloor.

This episode continues VARIA’s mission: championing considered electronic expression and lasting artistry.

Berlin-born DJ and producer Regent crafts techno that is both deep and exploratory. With releases on labels like Mutual Rhythm, ARTS, Clergy among others, his sound is immersive, thoughtful, and constantly evolving. Next year, he will feature in the label in a VA bringing his distinct vision and sound.

Technoslave_69 is an Amsterdam based DJ who is originally from Cairo, Egypt. He is a resident at Amsterdam collective De Reünie. 

The cultural diaspora he comes from and the influences of Amsterdam is reflected in his selection. His sets are immersive experiences where club-goers are encouraged to embrace their true selves. With each beat, Technoslave empowers individuals to break free from societal constraints and dance to the rhythm of their own liberation.

Prepare to be entranced by his club-centric sound, the epitome of rave.

Templum welcomes Kansas City’s Uun to the roster. Known for what
Hardwax has dubbed “straight ahead techno juggernauts,” he takes it to
the next level here, infusing all four of the selections on this
record with futuristic punctuation and deep, alien texture.

The EP opens with “Xenon,” a hurtling percussive rocket ship through
the atmosphere of a techno Tatooine, greeted by the robotic chorus
“Welcome To Xenon,” oozing with pure sci-fi drama.

Next, he ushers in “The Iconocast”—cavernous, pulsating atmospheres
worming and snaking around a broken beat kick and sizzling hats.

“Red Pyramid” follows, an algebraic sequence conjuring visions of an
alien phalanx descending, a hypnotic and mind-bending ride for the
dance floor.

The droning and atmospheric “The Sycophant” closes things out, a ghost
ship tunneling through deep space, with a rolling and rattling
rhythmic engine.

Amidst electronic profusion, VARIA curates enduring sonic architectures. We prioritize the gravitas of nuanced rhythms—complex, trance-inducing—and immersive soundscapes, showcasing lasting artistry.
