DSNT004 - Mr Jones - Under the radar [AnD Remix]

Stroboscopic Artefacts celebrate five years in business with a series of special anniversary releases, featuring selected artists from the SA story-so-far who have strongly shaped the label's identity.
In 'Drowned By Sight', Rrose sets the tone for the record with a deep and twisting take on club techno. A thick, low-end groove rolls out at unhurried pace, and widescreen, hissing synths fill the high-end. The track's brilliance lies in its tense, narrative arrangement: a five-minute, detailed climb followed by euphoric release as the drums fade away.
Perc's 'Tri-City' is a more direct assault on the dancefloor. The kicks pump like pistons, held together by weighty sub bass, cymbals and claps. The defining feature, though, is the haunting piano keys that emerge in the breakdown. Set against the harsh textures Perc is known for, the keys sound especially vivid and transcend the track beyond standard peak-time fare.
Flip the record to find Pfirter's exceptional 'Atman'. This track comes from the more reserved end of Pfirter's discography, deriving its impact from titanic sound design rather than brute muscle. The concise range of elements interact both tonally and rhymically to create a masterful piece of music that's fit to move both body and mind.
Irish duo Lakker provide the closing track, 'Pier'. In typical style, they re-imagine classic IDM influences into something totally unique, where mangled vocals sit amongst eerie atmospheres and drones. Skipping along way above traditional techno tempo, 'Pier' is the most experimental offering on this record, and represents a key part of the Stroboscopic sound.
'V - Five Years Of Artefacts - Chapter One' provides a well-rounded snapshot of what Lucy's label has explored since its conception. These are four deeply physical, dancefloor cuts, but ones that prioritise the importance of challenging norms and creating something new - a testament to the strength of the SA roster.

Just 6 months after his debut release on the label, Weekend Circuit invite Alderaan back at the helm of techno. Alter ego of Buenos Aires artist Franco De Michele - already revered by some of the industry greats - presents 'Statics' / 'Golden Ratio', a manifestation of progressive and dynamic techno, with Stanislav Tolkachev taking the B side.

Hailed as one of live techno's notorious artists, Stanislav makes his first appearance on the London based imprint, presenting an abstract take of ever intense, rolling techno for the remixes. With previous releases on the likes of Semantica & M_REC LTD, Tolkachev - originally from Ukraine - comes as no newbie.

Falling through the techno paradigm, this multi-tiered EP cuts a circuitous progression of moving sounds and energy. With the embodiment and animation of life, Alderaan adds his percussive punch and whirlwind of complexity to both 'Statics' & 'Golden Ratio' on the A side. Hosting 2 tracks on side B, Stanislav bounds through with a fix of dark vitality and abstract session, cascading between light and dark.

Hyper-dynamic, pulsating sounds make these noise churning tunes absolute "must have" tools of the trade. Abrasive, energising and reliably trippy, this release is a tension building exploration of effective, outdoor environment music, putting Weekend Circuit once again at the forefront of many artists collection.

Variance welcome back Mr. Kucera, for one last bash of his OLVR/KCRA pseudonym. We have provided. He gave us two absolutely amazing original tracks in CHNGL and GHSTS, we decided to get our residents Scenedrone and Sur+ on remix duties, and as we expected, they did atrociously magnificent jobs. Then we were introduced to this wonderful young producer named Vønshk. We listened and his originals were awesome, so we asked him to remix this EP. The result is out of this world, winding synth, with a banging kick, the whole package is magnificent. The addition of Vønshk just is the icing on the cake.

OLVR/KCRA - GHSTS

The first release of the year 2019 comes in the form of an split EP by Røttar and Sun Over Me. Opening we have "Industriegebiet", a different track, that pretends to break with all scheme or trend, proposing a fresh, dark and atypical sound to its time. We continue with "Dark Energy", showing a powerful bass accompanied by industrial textures that touch the acid sound at times, ideal to rescue any dancefloor. On the B side, first, we find "Gravis", full of saturated synth lines and burnt catchy hi-hats that plays with our brains constantly. As second and last we have "Universo", a very organic and daring track, whose main element is its magnificent modular-arpeggiated sequence.

Detroit based producer Uun returns to Soma following an impressive debut on the label earlier this year with more deep, dark seeded Techno in the Architects Of Fear EP. This ominous and brooding release is backed by a remix from fellow US producer Altstadt Echo who recently released his first, full length album on seminal Techno label, Semantica. 

The Vanity Trap opens the EP with a sense of urgency as bouncing rhythms steadily open up into pulsating, electric synths that seem to crawl through your skin whilst fast, effective percussion keep the pace. Between The Lines keeps the release pounding with a huge kicks and perfectly built hypnotic rhythms. Altstadt Echo steps up next with his remix of The Vanity Trap. His take offers a more broken beat and deeper affair as he puts the originals synths to work in a more drone orientated fashion. Machinations Of Descent closes the EP on a throughly hard hitting tone yet melancholic tone. An astute ambient producer as well, he merges his Techno & melodic elements beautifully on this track.
