2methyl's first full length album is both a feast for the dancefloor and an example of creativity. Following the "Orb" EP, "Layer 8" is a hard, fast album of futuristic dark drum'n'bass. But it is also an example of how to bring this genre forward while staying true to its energy. Very complex and detailed, the nine tracks of this album play with the rules of modern day's drum'n'bass and burst out of their restraints, resulting in an album whose horizon is beyond the dancefloor and which impresses by its magnitude and originality. “Ayni” is a defining concept of mutual reciprocity in the Andean understanding of community. While using the idea as a call to unity and indiscriminate support in the NYC dance community, Buzzi continues to show his growth as a Bushwick born and bred techno producer. 'Thermal' and 'Protection' are the prime time tracks, belting out carefully placed percussive elements in a narrative style the producer cultivated while studying the masters who came before him. 'Second Article' holds its ground with a relentless Detroit-inspired beat and steady melody.

Detroit based producer Uun returns to Soma following an impressive debut on the label earlier this year with more deep, dark seeded Techno in the Architects Of Fear EP. This ominous and brooding release is backed by a remix from fellow US producer Altstadt Echo who recently released his first, full length album on seminal Techno label, Semantica. 

The Vanity Trap opens the EP with a sense of urgency as bouncing rhythms steadily open up into pulsating, electric synths that seem to crawl through your skin whilst fast, effective percussion keep the pace. Between The Lines keeps the release pounding with a huge kicks and perfectly built hypnotic rhythms. Altstadt Echo steps up next with his remix of The Vanity Trap. His take offers a more broken beat and deeper affair as he puts the originals synths to work in a more drone orientated fashion. Machinations Of Descent closes the EP on a throughly hard hitting tone yet melancholic tone. An astute ambient producer as well, he merges his Techno & melodic elements beautifully on this track.

STAUB is a project that came to life in Berlin around 2013. It aimed to detach itself from the hype and business from techno. The idea was simply to not announce a lineup and treat everyone the same without separating headliners from the rest. This strictly equalitarian but also very familial and friendly concept allowed to give chances to newcomers on a regular basis and to build a tight-knit community.
As time passed it also became an outlet to release music staying true to these ethos. Everyone is paid the same, doesn’t matter who you are, it’s all about music and respect.

It has somewhat become customary to have a record ready to celebrate its birthday. As STAUB turns seven, STAUB’s fifth instalment (STAUB 5 / IRIS007) will be available at “STAUB – 7 YEARS“ Event at :// about blank.

UK techno don Jay Clarke joins the Soma ranks with The Kicker. Jay has started making his mark on the global techno scene with some serious releases via the awesome Klockworks label, and of course his own BLACKAXON imprint. Jay’s sound is characterised by elements of straight-up intense techno, blended with deeper Detroit-esque elements, culminating in a unique and well-produced style.

Straight Through opens up Jay’s Soma account and focuses firmly on the dance floor. Looped out, driving percussive elements push the track as hypnotic synths keep the rhythm flowing. Overlook has a tribalistic feel to it as wooden percussion work into a perfectly orchestrated groove allowing chopping hi hats and rides to deliver intensity as swelling atmosphere keep things ominous. Taking things down a deeper path, The Spark bounds with a well-crafted groove as spatial synth work brings more melodic and emotive aspects to the forefront. Title track The Kicker offers up the most diverse sounding cut on the EP with broken beat rhythms and discordant, almost jazzy synths breathing a distinct life throughout the track.
