This was my first time playing heavy amounts of drum n bass and jungle, and I had so so much fun. Lately listening to dnb has been cathartic for everything I've been dealing with, and I talk about that a little bit towards the end of the show. I also found a gold mine of old jungle compilations in my digging, a few tracks from which I featured here. Sprinkled in are also a few techno and house tracks, naturally. This is the first mix I've ever released under another platform, and one that I am hella proud of. While it's not technically seamless, this specific blend of tracks is the purest expression of how I've been feeling and expressing myself lately. Many of these songs have been the soundtrack of my last few months since moving to New York at the end of January, developing along with my personal journeys in the house & vogue dance forms that I practice, my gender expression, and my adventures around the city. 

To me this mix feels in the pocket, and a specific one — empowering deep and acid house that hits hard but still maintains a cunty feel, with their respective sexy moans and vocals, complemented by ballroom tracks that punch... and of course, a sprinkle of soul & groove to make sure you're really in your happy feels. 

This mix literally feels like the inside of my brain - each song tied to memories and ideas and inspiration and other parts of myself. I am grateful to have been offered this platform to share it. Thank you for listening. <3

VARSHA for Daytimers on Reprezent Radio

This set starts with a message from Archie Burnett (@/demoncar007 on IG), a mentor to many dancers around the world and narrator/co-producer of the iconic documentary, “Check Your Body at the Door,”. The documentary showcases the lives and culture of club dancers in New York through the 90s. Made to Move (IG - @/madetomovela), my party @/bodyhigh.lgr, and @/coloredcraigcommunity collaborated on a screening event for this documentary in December. 

For this show I wanted to record many of the tracks I played from our party that night, which was dedicated to the dancers — for the ones that paved the way, and for the ones we make room for today. House Grooves w/ VARSHA 1/21/21

VARSHA is a DJ, freestyle dancer, and model from the San Francisco Bay Area, and is bicoastal between New York and the west coast. Her music taste and DJ practice is deeply inspired by the communities of artists and dancers from the queer and freestyle dance cultures that she is a part of, primarily the freestyle house dance & ballroom scenes. Through her bouncy, playful, and deep selections she strives to channel the vibrant energy of these scenes, encouraging party-goers to feel boundless in their bodies and their movement. She's passionate about bringing the underground club scene & dancers back together, by nurturing self-expression, joy, and community at her events — an aim which she achieves via her seminal Oakland-based party and monthly radio show, BODY HIGH.

This spring will also see the release of a dance music compilation titled 'I.Y.K.Y.K.', that she’s co-curated with her business partner 4AM NYC, under the label Air Texture.
