In addition to playing music for people, VARSHA is a freestyle dancer & model from the San Francisco Bay Area, and lives bicoastally between New York and the west coast. Much of her music taste and DJ practice is deeply inspired by the communities of artists and dancers from the queer and freestyle dance cultures that she is a part of, primarily the house dance & ballroom scenes. Through her playful, deep, and cunty blends she strives to channel the vibrant energy of these scenes, encouraging party-goers to feel boundless in their bodies and movement, and find release on the dance floor. She hosts a party and monthly radio show in Oakland called 'BODY HIGH,' on Lower Grand Radio.

Notes on the Mix ///
"Most times, when I'm listening to music, I'm imagining myself house dancing or voguing to it, or the context where I'd get to play it out for people. More often than not, that place is session. Session is like when musicians get together to freestyle & jam, but for dancers. Like the club, session is catharsis. It's where you go to play, socialize, lab. This was part of the inspiration for this mix: tracks I'd play for house/vogue dancers at session. Session is a place where you can explore both internally and externally; in this way I wanted to bring a range of textures together, and this mix represents the ones I've been drawn to the most this year: pulling from ghetto house, garage, acid, deep house, and jazz. And of course being December, many of these tracks sum up my sound as it evolved this year, the longest period that I had lived in New York so far (~9 months). I learned a lot of lessons this year, and I heard and danced to a lot of amazing music. This mix feels like the sum of those experiences. Thanks for listening <3"
