An original song by myself and David Redhead (formerly known as the duet "Clavicle") based upon the Greek myth of Icarus.

Icarus (Original ft David Redhead)

This song is called Icarus. It's based on the Greek myth of the same name. 

I originally wrote it as part of a duet (we called ourselves Clavicle - myself on vocals, my friend David on guitar). It's always been a song that I've been proud of, and it's one of three songs I've written about Greek myths!

For those of you unfamiliar with the story of Icarus, I'll summarise it for you. Icarus was the son of an inventor, Dedalus. The king loved Dedalus's inventions and decided he wanted them all to himself, so he held the pair captive in the labyrinth that Dedalus had built to contain the Minotaur (who I think had by this point been slain by Theseus). Now obviously, Dedalus knew the labyrinth well and managed to escape, but whilst in the maze he had made wings for him and his son out of wax from the candles and feathers of the birds who had gotten lost and died. Once the wings were completed, they strapped them to their bodies and flew from the labyrinth. Icarus, being young and having not experienced freedom for some time decided he wanted to fly as high as possible. Dedalus warned him to stay away from the sun but the beautiful light captivated him, so he flew towards it. 

Needless to say his wings melted and he fell to his death.

I was nominated by Holly TheJolly to write a song with the theme "Sirens" in the key of Emaj for HourSong. Written and recorded (unfortunately in poor quality on my phone) in just under an hour, this is my attempt!

A piece of electronic music created by myself for my most recent university assessment. Inspired by the book "The Magician's Guild" by Trudi Canavan. This is my take on the credit music, if that book were a film. For a better listening experience, please use headphones :)

Out of the Slums and Into the Dark

"Vashti was born on a faraway planet called Zorb.

She travelled to Earth in a small automatic washing machine manufactured on the planet Zannusi!

Her skin was a bluey orange colour, with the texture of a walnut, thick purple hair covered her body, as did hidious warts. Her diet was mainly newts and sulphuric acid. By the age of 3 months, she was 7 stones in weight, and 4 feet tall.
To us, she was truly beautiful! And having extra fingers and toes was an added bonus.

By the age of 6 months, Vashti could talk .... No one could understand her as she spoke a mixture of venusian and seahorse.

At 9 months we shaved her and dyed her a fleshy pink ~ she was then a beautiful English rose.

It was several years later when we discovered the terrible truth .... she was a vampire!
