In my very first edit, I paired one of my all-time favorite songs Madonna'a "La Isla Bonita" with Daddy Yankee's "Rompe". According to Madonna, the song is about her love for Hispanic/Latin X Folks!

I believe we are all constantly living in at least 1 of the, what I refer to as, The 6 Stages of Love: Yearning, Infatuation, Falling, Deepening, Heartbreak & Longing. This mixtape focuses on those stages from the perspective of the beloved Brute.

When Thugs Cry

“Shocked. Disillusioned. Heartbroken. Angry. Disgusted.

I've been feeling this way for a while now, but - the incidents that surfaced in the past week have had me feeling these emotions (and more) to the maximum. I didn't post much on social media in regards to this because I needed to sit with my feelings. And, as an artist - I really wanted to create something for people in a more meaningful manner.

I am, among other things, a DJ. And, like everyone else - music inspires, expresses and consoles me. I created this mixtape because I wanted...needed, rather, to share my feelings during these turbulent times. I hope this is as cathartic for you to listen to as it was for me in creating it.

In the very least, I hope it will entertain you but I truly wish that this mixtape will spark thoughts, conversations and solutions."

As the daughter of Trinidadian parents, I am proud of my heritage. To honor all the beautiful and eclectic sounds of the Caribbean, I decided to make a mixtape (#WestIndianSummer) which features the sounds of Reggae, Reggaetone, Dancehall, Soca, Salsa, Merengue and Bachata! From Jamaica's Beenie Man to Colombia's J. Balvin to Martiniques Kalash to Trinidads Machel Montano, this mix is...a mix.

"Dedicated to all the lovers worldwide on my favorite holiday...Valentine's Day.

"To You, From Me" is a collection of all my favorite love songs, past and present. With artists ranging from Peter Frampton to The Weeknd, Stevie Wonder to The Smiths, Portishead to Drake, The Carpenters to Method Man...there is no doubt in my mind that this mixtape won't have at least one song for everyone to vibe to (Mom, Gramps, Hubby, Sidechick, Crush, etc) . The title was left vague and simple because, like the music, I wanted everyone to feel included - as if this mix was made just for you or as a re-gift to the ones you love. 

My Director brain had to scatter in scenes from my a few of my favorite romance films..."Popeye", "Punch Drunk Love", "Sixteen Candles" and "Jerry McGuire".
