Drugstore - Monument Podcast 025

Thomas URV is somewhat of an old hand in terms of the techno game, especially in his home town of Bergen, Norway. The Norwegian is known for his masterful multi-tasking skills working both as a producer and a promoter for the best part of his musical career, booking acts like Derrick May and Jeff Mills for his club night PLOINK, the same name of his self-run label. Unlike the club night, the label is still very much in its infancy having only released its first EP, Bergen, this summer, but is set to expand its catalogue in the near future with the help of music from Vakum and Nordenstam.

Making his Farringdon debut this Saturday, where he'll join Dave Clarke, Terry Francis and Phuture in Room Two, we got in touch to find out a little more about the bustling Bergen scene, and his plans for PLOINK, grabbing a new and exclusive mix along the way...

We are privileged to have Fabrizio Lapiana(@fabrizio-lapiana) as our guest for this week’s episode. As an artist, producer, DJ and record label owner, Fabrizio has contributed to the techno scene since the early nineties. 
His label Attic Music was founded in 2008 and has commanded a reputation known for quality and good music. Fabrizio has recently released EPs on his own label, as well as on M_REC.

In this weeks episode he showcases a variety of styles with a hypnotic techno flow. As he said himself “It’s not perfect, but it’s more real”. And when you play with vinyl only, we can’t do anything else but agree!

Q: How was the rave scene in Rome in the 90s, and how did it influence you? 
A:It's been very important for me and all italian techno movement. In that time Rome was italian techno, the only italian techno scene.
In 1991 I was too young to go to Rave parties but I was connected with rave scene through a local radio station that pushed all best techno of the moment and informed people about rave parties (legal warehouse parties)...And all this connected with a great records shop, re-mix. I was lucky to follow djs like Lory D, Leo Anibaldi, Luca Chucchetti, Freddy K, etc etc. In that time I realized to love techno and to want become a dj. 

Q: How do you seduce the crowd during a event?
A:I just make my personal journey during my set, of course not forgetting the crowd

Q: How is the Techno scene in Rome today?
A:I think it's a good moment. There are different nice parties and a lot of great artists in my opinion. 

Q: Any extra words?
A:About this podcast, I just spent some minutes to decide the first track to start the mix, as I usually do in the gigs. I like improvvisation.

Doppler

Vasøk is Vasilij Malcev, a Russian-born musician based in Norway.His music can be described as direct, primarily percussion driven with a basic focus on pureness and an experimental sound signature. He has been self described as minimalistic techno but his music illustrates influences from hiphop, experimental electronica and of course his russian origin (can be expanded).
He has released a self titled mini album on the stavanger/norway based label zang: in 2007 and done a remix of athana's song "samaka“. He also did some live performances on diverse zang: label events, numusic festival and støy på landet festival.
