La forteresse

Vatican was a Punk band formed in Paris at the tail end of the 70s. The members were Richard (vocals), Thierry (guitar), Renan (drums) and Kram (bass). The band released a split EP "Rien n'a changé" with the famous Punk band Les Cadavres. 
In 1980 Jeff replaced Kram on bass, and the band moved away from its early punk direction to create a more sophisticated music influenced by English New Wave Punk bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Killing Joke, The Cure, etc. Vatican then released a new track, "Casimir", on the French punk compilation LP "France profonde". 
The four tracks presented here were recorded with the second line-up (including Jeff on bass) on a demo tape hailed by the underground French Punk press as one of the best recordings of the French punk scene but never released on any label. Despite growing success and recognition, the band decided to split after a few gigs in different Parisian clubs like the Cithéa and the Gibus.
