Continuing a busy 2013 after Ultramajic's inaugural release "Hot Inside" as well as debuts from the elusive Aden and Creepy Autograph, Jimmy Edgar returns to his own occult-inspired Ultramajic imprint with the Mercurio EP, three tracks of throbbing sampladelia as undeniably robotic as they are irresistibly funky.

Ultramajic has lofty aims, uniting Edgar's twin passions for ritual magick and meditation while focusing on developing new artists and a new personal sound. Having just wrapped up a summer of touring his collaborative JETS project with label partner Travis Stewart aka Machinedrum, Mercurio suggests a restless energy honed by enthusiastic crowd response to the martial beats. The title track "Mercurio" is a flurry of competing crescendos and fractured vocal samples over a bulbous bassline. "Qlinda" is equally celebratory, utilizing microtonal shifts in the stereo field and exuberant sampling before morphing into a half-time ooze. "Ultraviolet" highlights Edgar's special skill with modular synthesis  to craft an electro-tinged jack, machines on the edge of collapse.

With artwork by longtime collaborator Pilar Zeta, Jimmy Edgar continues to play with new age philosophies and esoteric inspirations in the deluxe, hand-crafted packaging for the label's releases.

Edgar will highlight these new tracks as he continues to tour in 2013, including performing as JETS at Decibel Festival and Mutek in Mexico City. Edgar's full remaining tour dates can be seen below:

After an eventful period, we’re back with the FrenzyPodcast series. This week we’ve invited the Hannover-born Berlin-based duo Lyric. Lyric is formed by Lyza and Ericson, who translate their shared passion for the rhythmic and rolling techno to the dancefloor as residents for Selected (Berlin). Besides bringing their flow through mixes and sets, Lyric also show their potential with their recent releases on Selected and Room Lab, among others.

With the latter half of 2013 being dominated by a flurry of activity from the newfangled Ultramajic imprint, Berlin based label founder and scene veteran Jimmy Edgar reflects on the growing discography by remixing 'Whip', a standout track from the burgeoning canon.

With the original cut having garnered early support from the likes of Boys Noize, Loco Dice and Scuba, Edgar flips the the dub sensibilities and Chicago style
vocal chops off the elusive Aden into a proper New Jersey house joint, teaming with exuberant keys and irrepressible bounce.

Set for release at the beginning of 2014, it prefaces EP's from the likes of Sophie (Numbers / Huntleys & Palmers) and Danny Daze (Hot Creations / Plant Music).

Tbilisi native Beka Wu has been a past guest of the mainstay podcast in fuller Bassiani capacity, and here he is again for this latest Zenaari instalment, a format that likely couldn’t find a better sound to promulgate its truest essence. Spending his time between the worlds of music and light design, it’s inevitable one should bleed into the other. There’s a distinct ambient feel that permeates his sound, something acutely aware of the space it inhabits, feels its way around the empty hollow, and fills it with grain-textured, reverberating notes, with the listener sitting at its very centre. Less about engaging the body in a physical sense, more about reconnecting with the long abandoned reaches of the mind, a seemingly dormant but fundamental nature we share in the subconscious self. For Zenaari Mix 012 he gets experimental, and draws his focus to building a story that’s riven with emotion. A sequentially ordered selection of tracks that gently rises and falls like the breath, builds a mood and pays no heed to the diversity of its constituent parts (perhaps cult Japanese music-maker Susumu Yokota and Erik Satie had some common ground). Mellow and directed within, an hour long waltz through the stars, an invitation to pause and take stock, to feel peace among the turbulent waves of the world around us.

Futuristic-funk starchild, Jimmy Edgar, returns with the third single to be taken from his recent album, Majenta, out earlier this year on Hotflush. This time Edgar shoves his free-spirited sexual appetite in your face, with a slice of stripped-down, upfront electro-funk complete with J.G. Ballard-inspired lyrics of car-crash sexual fetishism. 

Alongside the original album cut, two alternate takes are reworked by a pair of producers at the very top of their game: Jon Convex and John Talabot. Whilst Talabot creates an eerie and downright epic re-imagining through his combination of Amazonian electronics and volume manipulation, the Convex cut enhances the dance floor potential of the original with bubbling, arpeggiated 303 bass.
