Martin Kohlstedt is a German electronic musician, pianist, and film composer with a particular approach to production, where his pieces “are always in movement and never resort to a definitive form – even during concerts.” For his latest album, titled FELD, Kohlstedt has produced a series of films complimenting the singles [you can watch these on his YouTube video collection], with the entire production culminating into “a movie with an immersive, captivating story.” For today’s premiere, I’ve selected the track “DIA”, which, even without the visuals, conveys his flavour of modern electronic sound fused with acoustic instrumentation, projecting the motion of emotion as it flows throughout your mind. The piece opens up with soft piano sparkles wrapped by a blanket of rhythmic glitches until the whirlwind of edgy electronica whisks it into action of wide-angle cinematic soundscape. “This is possible because Kohlstedt, while trusting the clarity of composition of his modules and pieces, intuitively allows unforeseen events that he also sees as an integral part of his live performances: a certain fragility, constant searching and possible failure, a dash of chance and unbridled flow.”

The Niyamas (Sanskrit: नियम, romanized: Niyama) are positive duties or observances. In Dharma, particularly Yoga, niyamas and their complement, Yamas, are recommended activities and habits for healthy living, spiritual enlightenment, and a liberated state of existence. It has multiple meanings depending on context in Hinduism. In Buddhism, the term extends to the determinations of nature, as in the Buddhist niyama dhammas.

Virtues are extensively discussed in various ancient and medieval era texts of Hinduism. In its Yoga school, they are described in first two of eight limbs (steps, branches, components). The first limb is called yamas, which include virtuous self-restraints (the "don'ts"). The second limb is called niyamas which include virtuous habits, behaviors and observances (the "dos").
These virtues and ethical premises are considered in Hinduism as necessary for an individual to achieve a self-realized, enlightened, liberated state of existence (moksha).

In Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the Niyamas are the second limb of the eight limbs of Yoga. Sadhana Pada Verse 32 lists the niyamas as:

- Shaucha (शौच): purity, clearness of mind, speech and body
- Santosha (सन्तोष): contentment, acceptance of others and of one's circumstances as they are, optimism for self
- Tapas (तपस्): austerity, self-discipline, persistent meditation, perseverance
- Svadhyaya (स्वाध्याय): study of self, self-reflection, introspection of self's thoughts, speeches and actions
- Ishvarapranidhana (ईश्वरप्रणिधान): contemplation of the Ishvara (God/Supreme Being, Brahman, True Self, Unchanging Reality), attunement to the supreme consciousness

A body plain as canvas, blank as the first page of a book. No signs of marks and stains. Life projects pictures of summer nights on you when you had your head up high in velvet clouds and your feet down on green meadows. Days when you fell in love with everything you saw, everyone you met and every idea that came to your mind. Made plans only to throw them over the next second. Failed at making decisions. When you read books, remembered a long forgotten song, created art. Sometimes loved too much or loved too little. Nights when you were concerned and desperate. When you felt too much and not enough all at the same time - slowly causing cracks in your painted surface. You dreamed hours, days and months away, lost yourself here to find yourself back there. Circled around yourself and others, gained experiences that left marks on you. And your painted body of canvas starts to crumble, falling off yourself till there’s nothing left then a new blank page to fill with something new.

The Circl’s first release "Velvet Lane" is coming at the 1st of February! Beside Bask there will be 3 other chapters full of stories made of sounds rather than words on WIDE AWAKE’s new EP. And until then, see and listen to what has inspired this story for Bask.

Technology allows us to create kings from the masses and gives those who would, a way to connect and share anything with anyone at anytime. But, this new paradigm is built on fragile ideas of instant gratification and acceptance, and sometimes the smallest whisper can topple the house of cards. It is with this vulnerability in mind that Amselcom has produced this EP, each track chosen for it's ability to reach those who look to reject this new way of life and be a part of a more meaningful evolution through our biological circuitry. 

Bruce Riley's cover artwork closely represents this organic network that links us all together. In a world where biology is being replaced with technology at a quickening rate, the hope is that this collection will remind us of our humanity and guide us back to using the same cellular social structures of our ancestors.
