What is "Sāmaveda"?

The sāmaveda (सामवेद) is one of the four Vedic scriptures.

It is a hymn (sāman) sung to a melody in ceremonies and has been kept by the udgātṛ, the udgātri priest who presides over the singing. The hymns are mainly from the Rigveda and are chanted musically in seven scales.

In the Sāmaveda, the melody (ārthaman) is more important than the words of the hymns. The gāna, which describes the melody, is considered to be the origin of Indian music.

What is the Rigveda?

The Rigveda (ऋग्वेद, ṛgveda, Rigveda) is one of the four major Vedic scriptures of ancient India, a scripture of revelation recognized by rishis (poets and sages). It is a collection of mantras written in Sanskrit. Rig" means "ruchi (ṛc/ verse)" and "veda" means "knowledge. They are chanted by the hotoori priests during rituals. It is considered the oldest (1500-1000BC) of the orally transmitted Vedic scriptures.

The Rigveda consists of ten maṇḍala (scrolls), each scroll containing several sūkta (verses), and each scroll containing several verses (ṛc). When quoting a particular verse from the Rigveda, three numbers are used: the mandala number, the serial number of the sūkta within that mandala, and the verse number (e.g., 1-1-1). The extant Rigveda contains 1028 sukta, each containing verses 3-58.
The verses contain formulaic rhymes, such as Trishtub (4 verses of 11 syllables), Gayatri (3 verses of 8 syllables), and Jagati (4 verses of 12 syllables), which together comprise about 80% of the total.

The Rigveda has been handed down exclusively orally for more than a thousand years and has been preserved to this day.

This CD album contains the Mantras of Rudra, Śiva and Mṛtyunjaya from Yajurveda, which are used commonly for yajña (Vedic rituals). Those three powers in nature are three different aspects of one ‘Supreme Power’ which is considered omnipotent, omnipresent and extremely vital. The Rudra and Śiva Mantras are for Mokṣa (Liberation) and the Mṛtyunjaya Mantra is for creating Divine Vibrations that heal. このCDニは、ヒーリング・マントラは、マハー・ムルテュンジャヤ・マントラを主に、ヴェーダ・マントラ(ヴェーダ聖典の聖句)です。古代言語サンスクリット(梵語)によるもので、伝統的な音階に従って詠唱されています。

これらは、アコースティック・メディスン、音薬(おんやく〉ともいえるもので、ヒーリング効果を期待される各種すマントラ、つまり、癒しの言霊とも言えます。 

収録されているのは、ルドラ、シヴァ、ムルテュンジャヤのヴェーダ・マントラが主です。これら三つは同じ一つの自然の力で、“再創造のための破壊力、医薬力、解脱力"という三つの異なる側面を表すものです。

マントラ(真言)を静かに目を閉じて聞くことで、こころが刺激され、疲労やすとレスの解消にもあります。また、伝統的には、「健康回復、輪廻の解脱、癒しの波動」をもたらすと言われます。さらに、これらは健康長寿、無病息災、天命成就、厄除祈願などの祈祷句でもあり、祭祀おいて現在も詠唱されています。

ヨーガの始祖はシヴァ神とされていますが、その源流はヴェーダ以前のインダス文明までさかのぼります。ヴェーダ聖典ではシヴァはルドラと呼ばれる自然の力として登場します。ルドラは、シヴァ(吉兆なるもの)とも、ムルテュンジャヤ(死を克服するもの)とも呼ばれています。

Vac is the magnificent Hindu Goddess of spoken words.She is the daughter of Daksha and her husband is Kasypa.

Vac is the Sanskrit word for speech, voice, talk, or language. She is the creator of the alphabet and of Sanskrit (the language of the Hindu sacred texts).  In early Rig-Veda, Vac refers to the voice of the priest raised in sacrifice.  Vac is also referred to the source of voice.

Vac was the first person to speak the first word and give the first speech to her people. She is also the one who uttered the OM of creation. The OM represents the four states of Brahman. Vac personifies truth and sustains soma (Hinduism).

Vac identified as Sarasvati later and  is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, and learning.
