Reproduced by VV on basis of a reading into a sequence for original trio instrument setup, genrated in 2010's by H.Fesefeldt (1942-2019, a German nuclear Physics researcher, and music software developer). Here it was reviewed and slightly modified (e.g. on tempos) by VV prior to its recording on a pair of modeled Petrof Mistral 284 grand pianos, which were revoiced and reconfigured by VV, as ´well as were made the rec setup.

Op. 70 is a set of two Piano Trios by Ludwig van Beethoven, written for piano, violin, and cello. Both trios were composed during Beethoven's stay at Countess Marie von Erdödy's estate, and both are dedicated to her for her hospitality. They were published in 1809.

The first, in D major, known as the Ghost, is one of his best known works in the genre (rivaled only by the Archduke Trio). The D major trio features themes found in the second movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 2. The All-Music Guide states that "because of its strangely scored and undeniably eerie-sounding slow movement, it was dubbed the 'Ghost' Trio. The name has stuck with the work ever since. The ghostly music may have had its roots in sketches for a Macbeth opera that Beethoven was contemplating at the time."[1] According to Lewis Lockwood, Beethoven's pupil Carl Czerny wrote in 1842 that the slow movement reminded him (Czerny) of the ghost scene at the opening of Shakespeare's Hamlet, and this was the origin of the nickname.[2] James Keller also attributes the nickname to Czerny, adding, "You may discard as erroneous the oft-encountered claim that this movement of the Ghost Trio is a reworking of music Beethoven originally sketched as the Witches Chorus for his Macbeth.[3]

These pieces are representative of Beethoven's "Middle" stylistic period, which went from roughly 1803 to 1812, and which included many of his most famous works. Beethoven wrote the two piano trios while spending the summer of 1808 back once again in Heiligenstadt, Vienna,[4] where he had completed his Symphony No. 5 the previous summer. He wrote the two trios immediately after finishing his Sinfonia pastorale, Symphony No. 6. This was a period of uncertainty in Beethoven's life, in particular because he had no dependable source of income at the time.

Although these two trios are sometimes numbered as "No. 5" and "No. 6", the numbering of Beethoven's twelve piano trios is not standardized, and in other sources the two Op. 70 trios may be shown as having different numbers, if any.

Now, Dec15, 2024, a pair of Petrof Mistral 284 mdeled grands were used on recording. The instruments were revoiced & reconfigured , as well as the rec setup was made by VV. The tempos were now set according to that proposed by Carl Czerny on his irsanscription of this work for four hands (1838).

About Piano Trio Op.11::
"The Piano Trio in B-flat major, Op. 11, was composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1797 and published in Vienna the next year. It is one of a series of early chamber works, many involving woodwind instruments because of their popularity and novelty at the time. The trio is scored for piano, clarinet (or violin), and cello (sometimes replaced by bassoon). The key of B-flat major was probably chosen to facilitate fast passages in the B-flat clarinet, which had not yet benefited from the development of modern key systems (such as the Albert system or Boehm system). Beethoven dedicated this piano trio to Countess Maria Wilhelmine von Thun.
The work is also sometimes known by the nickname "Gassenhauer Trio". This arose from its third movement which contains nine variations on a theme from the then popular dramma giocoso L'amor marinaro ossia Il corsaro (15 October 1797, Wiener Hoftheater) by Joseph Weigl. This particular melody, "Pria ch'io l'impegno" ("Before I go to work"), was so popular it could be heard in many of Vienna's lanes ("Gasse" in German). A "Gassenhauer" usually denotes a (normally simple) tune that many people (in the Gassen) have taken up and sing or whistle for themselves, the tune as such having become rather independent from its compositional origins. A rare word in contemporary German, rough modern equivalents of the term include "hit" (success) or "schlager". This was a track I did a while ago and just remembered about. It was supposed to be for a puzzle RPG game but the game director decided it was too happy for the mood of the game. I then went and did a darker rendition which was used and I may upload at some point.

**Gertrude Huntly Green (b Huntley, m Green, m Durand). Pianist, teacher, b St Thomas, Ont, July 1889, d Victoria, BC,10 Jan 1987. During her career she spelled her family name Huntley and Huntly. She studied with William Caven Barron at the London (Ont) Conservatory of Music, winning the Barron gold medal and the Heintzman scholarship in 1901. She continued violin and piano studies in Detroit and in Paris, where she made her piano debut 5 Mar 1908 at the Salle Erard in a joint program with her instructors, the pianist Moritz Moszkowski (who ended an 11-year retirement to perform) and the violinist Albert Geloso. She subsequently gave recitals in France, England, Canada and the USA. Huntly Green settled in Victoria, BC, ca 1914, and was active there as a teacher of advanced piano students and as a performer. She also conducted an orchestra that assisted in wartime fund-raising projects. She made a number of Canadian tours and was admired for her work with the Hart House String Quartet. Leopold Godowsky declared her to be 'the future woman champion pianist,' and in 1920 she assisted him in his master classes. She studied in the late 1920s with Nicolai Medtner in Germany and recorded his Fairy Tale and Danza Festiva for Ampico Piano Rolls (listed in the 1929 Ampico catalogue).Returning to British Columbia in the 1940s, she actively supported the Victoria Musical Art Society, the Victoria Symphony Orchestra and the Victoria Conservatory of Music. *John Powell (September 6, 1882 – August 15, 1963) was an American pianist, ethnomusicologist and composer. He helped found the White Top Folk Festival, which promoted music of the people in the Appalachian Mountains.
Powell was born and grew up in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1901, and studied piano with Theodor Leschetizky and composition in Vienna with composer Karel Navrátil. He made his debut as a concert pianist in 1908 in Berlin.

Continued about Frederic Lamond:
Lamond was born in Glasgow, Scotland. After exhausting the resources of his home town, he continued his musical study abroad in Germany under Max Schwarz and Hans von Bülow. He studied with Franz Liszt at Weimar and Rome in 1885, and in London in 1886. In 1886 Lamond also met Johannes Brahms, who coached him in his own works. Lamond also became acquainted with Anton Rubinstein in Germany, hearing him conduct and play many times there, and later in Russia in the 1890s.
In addition to becoming one of the early champions of Brahms' piano works, Lamond was considered the primary authority on Beethoven's piano music before Artur Schnabel, and Breitkopf & Härtel published his edition of the piano sonatas. In 1893 Lamond was invited by Vasily Safonov to Moscow to play Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto in B-flat minor, Op. 23, at the request of the composer. While in Russia, he met Alexander Scriabin, whose Second Sonata, Op. 19, Lamond later played. In the 1920s and '30s, Lamond recorded many works of Beethoven (including an acoustic recording of the "Emperor" Concerto complete under Eugène Goossens, for HMV) and Liszt, as well as a scattered assortment of smaller works by other composers. While not the greatest of technicians by the time of his recordings — reviews from his youth praise his accuracy and bravura in such taxing works as the Brahms Paganini Variations, Op. 35 — his graceful phrasing and singing tone are quite remarkable (Wikipedia)

Photo: Amy Beach (1867-1944)was an American composer and pianist of Scottish descent. She was the first successful American female composer to make a name for herself in music. Most of her compositions and performances have been done under the name of Mrs. HHA Beach.
Amy Marcy Cheney was born as a child of a distinguished New England family . She was a prodigy who was said to be able to sing forty songs as a one-year-old. She learned to read herself at the age of three and composed three simple rolls when she was four. She received her first lessons from her mother when she was six, and a year later she gave her first recitals . She played works by Händel , Beethoven , Chopin , as well as her own works. In 1875 her parents moved to Boston, where they were advised to register Amy at a European conservatory. Instead, they chose to have her take classes in Boston, and they first hired Ernst Perabo, and later Carl Baermann. When she was fourteen, Amy got her only official composition training from Junius W. Hill, with whom she studied harmony and counterpoint for a year . Apart from that one year, Amy Beach did not have any lessons and taught herself everything especially by studying classical pieces, such as Bach's Wohltemperiertes Klavier .
In 1883 she made her professional debut in Boston: she played Chopins Rondo in E and Moscheles ' concert in g minor. Shortly thereafter she performed as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra . After her marriage in 1885 with Dr. Henry Harris Aubrey Beach - a Boston surgeon who was 24 years older than she - agreed to limit her performances to one public recital a year and donate the proceeds to a charitable cause. Responding to the wishes of her husband, she devoted herself to composing. Her first major success was the Mass in E major , in 1892 by the Handel and Haydn Societywas carried out. The well-received execution of this mass led to Beach from then on being counted among America's most important composers. She composed the Jubilate dedicated to the Woman's Building at the World's Columbian Exposition . [1]
After her husband died in 1910, she toured Europe as a pianist and she played her own compositions at the concerts. She was determined to acquire a reputation both as a pianist and as a composer. In 1924 she returned to America where she spent most of her time on the MacDowell Colonyin Peterborough (New Hampshire). In 1915 she wrote the "Ten Commandments for Young Composers", which included many of her theses for self-study. Later, Amy Beach moved to New York, where she became the virtual house composer of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. She used her status as the most important female composer of America to promote the career of young musicians; she was also at the head of various organizations, such as the Society of American Women Composers, of which she was the first president. Heart failure led to Beach withdrawing in 1940, until her death in 1944.

My warmest thanks to everyone stopping by for listening to my  'REVIEW   OF THE PAST TIME PIANISTS' INTERPRETATIONS ON THE HISTORICAL PIANO ROLLS, and also to a minor LIST of MY MY OWN RENDITIONS, all of the latter representing a variety of piano music & some pipe-organ classics, - and  TO THE Growing LISTS OF (just lately done and reproduced)  TRANSCRIPTIONS OF VARIOUS CHAMBER MUSIC CLASSICAL PEARLS FOR TWO PIANOS.

This kind of 'touching' on these old pre-sound-rec. era works by the great performers of the past, and giving my sound to these old 'punch rolls',  makes me feel  deep humbleness, .and I wish that this modest attempt to bring these  performances alive will satisfy you listening to them!
To introduce myself...
I am a Finnish M.D., PhD. and Hand Surgeon (now retired), previously when young with 10 years of professionally orientated piano studies at Turku Conservatory in 1965-1975, partly  along with medical University studies. 
The digital sound techniques have become very familiar to me already from 1980's along with my university research work  
and my musical activities.
As continuation to my musical and professional experience, I have, during the last few years of my retirement, adopted a music historical challenge
to bring the past time major and minor pianists, prior to sound-recording era, onto the same 'start line' with the present pianists, by making their presentations, played onto 'punch rolls' i.e. piano rolls, audible with modern digital techniques. This wouldn't be possible without the pioneering  efforts of Richard Stibbons, Wayne Stahnke, Terry Smythe, Warren Trachtman, Spencer Chase, and others, who developed the optical digitizing techniques of the piano rolls, and digitized them.

The main part of my recordings here in SC consists of selection recorded by me from optically digitized piano-rolls** (from 1910's on or earlier, classical and 'vintage era'). These recordings of mine are not and will not be commercially unavailable. - The rolls were first optically scanned and converted into a digital form by diverse operators** (see also to the info of each piece). The pieces here were partly (minor part) picked from various open net sources, publicly available, but mainly from the huge archive (n=ca.5000) of digitized copies copies of the original reproducing piano rolls, made available to me by one of the pioneers of roll digitizing tehchniques (willing to keep anonymous), and then recorded from this archive mainly with virtual grand piano (called by me 'Bluethner Model One') modified/re-designed by me, as well as the rec settings. 
Also a minor selection of my own renditions among my records can be found here, included on my playlist 'Bach Goes Virtual', the name of the list telling something about the techniques used for getting the end result... The list includes various organ works by J.S.Bach and others, and also a few piano renditions of mine. Then there are included also various pieces which have been in my repertoire, but here played mainly by the  'guest' great players of the past (before the sound recording era).
