Hard Knock Funk

I believe we recorded this awesome track in 2001 or 2002. It is a production by Wim den Herder, who did the drums and the awesome guitar+solo. The track was conceptualized in Guitar Pro 2.0 and recorded at the Papenlaan in Voorschoten.

Upon reactivating my dropbox account, I stumbled upon a jamsession I thought had been lost in time. In 2011, Von Funkenstein had the honor of joining forces with Coen Siersma, on the drum kit. You may remember him from Zapatika as well as de b-kant. Personally I'm amazed by how well this session turned out and I am happy to share the first part of it with you, the world.

The Power of Dark Sound

This is Part 2 of the Von Funkenstein Jam with Dr, Coen on the Drums. 
I don't know why we called him a doctor back then, but it kind of stuck, so I hope he doesn't get into any trouble for not being an actual doctor. 
That being said, the guys performed amazingly well on this recording and I think I have managed to bring out all the sounds quite well, emphasizing on the vocals and the bass drum / lower ranges of the bass guitar sound. Hope you enjoy this as much as we did making it!!

Into The Chaos Chamber

The third part of an already epic jam comes on a little softer, but with just as much musicianship and regard for the weird stuff you can do when making music and improvising. Hope you like it, it's a song about a man having some trouble with dying...

The Man That Couldn't Die

Behind a dark and mysterious musical engine, a shadowy figure directs these musicians to do its bidding. For what it's worth, the master of this machine is not at all evil, though it loves to generate a rising tension in its works, unfolding into a dramatic climax, when the slaving musicians perform at the height of their capabilities, surfing the soundwaves and bouncing off each other's musical mayhem.

Engine Of The Jam Machine

This short track keeps the flow of the jam going, while rerouting its energy into another direction as it progresses towards the end. The wah effect on the guitar almost makes it scream WOW, near the finish line.

Locomotion At 90 Mph

The story continues, or so it seems, because it is rather difficult to determine what the story has been so far... 
Though now at least we have arrived at the part where the high priest gives his sermon. Whether the priest has a high rank within his religious community, or whether he has somehow been elevated above his flock in another manner altogether, leaves us all to wonder.

This Is What The Priest Said

Here we slowly come out of the darkness and head towards the faint lights that await us outside of the Jam Engine. Inside it the musicians gave everything they had for the telling of a tale so musical and so poetic, it will take bardic and musical scholars decades to deduce all of this great jam's hidden meaning. For now, these troubadours have earned their rest as well as a nice refreshing beverage.
