Monty Luke. Very excited to have such an incredible producer, versatile DJ and label founder of Black Catalogue to spin for Spinning Grounds. Monty’s journey has taken him from Los Angeles to San Francisco to Detroit and then Berlin - recording new music, for labels like Hypercolour, Rekids, Planet-E, Classic, KMS, Cadenza, Blood of Thrones, 2MR and sharing his selections with crowds whereas he seldomly just sticks to only one genre. The music itself and feeling of it seem to be the red line and not the genre label of it - interweaving house, dub, dark disco, deep techno…. “I’m still in love with the idea of sharing music with people and the exchange of energy and ideas it can bring about.”

'Spinning Grounds' by @katharina-davids is all about opening grounds for newcomers to spin their music - to explore all facetes around genres from house, Detroit, dub techno to break beat.

A legend and pioneer within the UK underground music scene, Anna aka ANNX is known for her impeccable and warm approach to bringing people together. Founder of the non-profit party Whomp, Co- founder of Perspectives party and a member of the Above below Family, she has a strong ear and eye for the deeper & mystical talents, mixing sounds and immersive lighting together to create the perfect setting. Annx's set at Above Below 24 b2b friend Noodle was one of our highlights to date with the most bass wobbling, Saturday afternoon Dubstep set we've ever witnessed. So we had to have her join the Cozi fam....with this special curated atmospheric & moody dub techno mix for us all to dive into....lock in xxxx

1. How and why did you get into producing / dj’ing? 
I’ve been passionate about dance music since I can remember, living in music-centric cities like Leeds and Berlin were super inspiring (I did my dissertation on clubbing in Berlin lol) but it never ever crossed my mind to become or learn to DJ. When I moved to Mile End in London in 2019, I lived in a large house with 5 gals which we chose because of a sexy two room basement that we then proceeded to use as a club for five house parties. We had a strict rule “no dicks on decks” to promote female-DJs and naturally I then taught myself to DJ since being on the aux in the basement didn’t quite cut it… 

2. Who, what/where was your most coziest gig you've been to or experienced and why? 
Definitely at Kwia in Berlin in November 2021. It had just opened, I don’t even remember who was playing but I was totally mesmerised by the ‘shoes off’ policy, the cozy sofas and soft furnishings, the warm pastel colors, the incredible lighting and art installations, the sit-down DJ set-up and the fact they had a smoke machine. I went back every night of that trip because I was so obsessed. If I could make my future living room like I would..

3. Do you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert in the scene? 
On top of DJing I have my fingers in many musical pies including co-running two events, Whomp and Perspectives, as well as being on the Music team for Above Below Festival. Therefore I’d say I am an extrovert in the scene - I thrive off connecting with people around the world through music and have a passion for bringing new psychedelic sounds to London and the UK beyond. 

4. If you had to choose 1 track to vibe out too forever, what would it be?
SUCH a tough question…but I think it might have to be Unknown Artist - Untitled A1. The groove always puts me in a good mood and I love the weirdo vocals. It’s my favourite track to listen to after a night out. 

5. What is your routine when preparing for a gig / production/writing session? Do you have any special remedies/ mental/physical prep/ places to go to? :)
It depends on the gig but usually I spend weeks digging (when I can) with the venue/time/lineup/crowd/country/promoters in mind. I try to reach out to the artists playing before / after me to understand their vibes and craft something interesting that’ll work. After digging I go through my rekordbox and make playlists of different vibes that I weave through during the sets. Some sets I plan more than others depending on how nervous I am…

Jane Fitz, one of rural regulars and a staple of its history, took the stage for two B2B sets on both stages this year.

Jane's choice to share a booth with AKIRAM EN, also a regular at rural, on the first day of the event brought together a large crowd of music lovers for a rare B2B experience that lasted four hours of deep groove sessions from late into the night until dawn. Enjoy this obscure mix set, that the two skilled selectors who have been described as “DJ's  DJ” have produced.

Josephine’ Soundscapes es Jose Salas, creador audiovisual y promotor de la cultura alternativa en Madrid, en activo desde hace 2 décadas. En el ámbito musical trabaja como Dj, radio host, promotor y programador en clubes e instituciones, así como en proyectos de radio y colaboraciones de diversa índole.
Actualmente, parte su trabajo se materializa desde la promotora independiente a_mal_gam_a, que codirige junto a Diskoan, desde la que desarrolla iniciativas como Dance Cave Madrid. Su radio de acción se expande formando parte de otros proyectos culturales, colectivos o personales, como CALMA en Zapadores Ciudad del Arte, temple @ Espacio Perpedicular, Festival BetaPública de Teatros de Canal, las sesiones Vanishing Point o Campos de Marte @ Radio Relativa, su podcast dedicado a la música experimental.

This episode of Polychrome Radio is special for so many reasons. RDS isn’t just an artist who dedicates himself tirelessly to perfecting the craft of writing and selecting music—he’s also a dear friend who’s been part of our label’s journey from the very beginning.

Rein has inspired our curation and sound for years, generously sharing his music with us and opening up his eclectic record collection to our delight. It’s been amazing to witness his journey, release after release, as he continues to raise the bar.

This set was recorded during our Polychrome x Spectral Bounce night at Multipla. In the upstairs room, bathed in red lights and soft smoke, we sat on the floor with eyes closed, swaying to the most beautiful IDM records. The first hour of the set airs today on Echobox Radio at 17:00, with the full performance available soon on our SoundCloud.
