The more things change, the more they stay the same.

After viewing the 1961 film "The Challenge of Ideas", I was inspired by many of the things discussed from an ideological standpoint that are still present today, but tenfold. 

The film discusses how ‘dangerous ideas’ become widespread and how the biggest struggles we face as a country are no longer on the battlefield, but through the words of diplomats, gestures of friendships, cultural demonstrations, foreign aid & displays of military power. 

Fast forward 60+ years and you have all of the above still occurring, while the internet amplifies the spread of disinformation and dangerous ideas to critical levels. 

  In the film, the ‘dangerous idea’ is the spread of communism, but in today’s world it can be the spread of misinformation on. many different topics, including but not limited to COVID-19, politics, immigration, cultural appropriation and more. 

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
