Life After Jack

My earliest desires to make electronic music were fueled by my love of Gary Numan. 

This is a cover of Gary Numan's 1980 song "I Die: You Die" which was a critique of the music industry. 30 years later it feels like an equally fitting critique of toxic social media culture. I chose to title my version after the closing lyric of the song after watching a friend slip into deep depression after becoming the victim of a cyberbullying campaign. Fearing the telephone has a whole different meaning in the age of smart phone technology.

A song about choosing between pain and death. It's not about suicide, it's about the decision to euthanize a beloved cat, so don't get it twisted. The riddle presented in the song is courtesy of Jason Miller, the samples are Lana Del Rey's Blue Velvet and Gil Scott Heron's Take Care. (My first experiments in sampling).
