Deep in the archives, thanks to an old friend, I found this video tape recording of my 1st originals gig in 2004 at The Break Bar in Terrigal, hosted at the time by the divine Sarah Humphries and Loren Kate. This is the last tune of the eve, always my friends fave and something Ive been singing since i was 13, long before it was popular to cover. Thats Raymund Shek on guitar, and my fave coasties showing their support for an oldie but a goodie.I love that Kasey Chambers just walked in as i sang this tune too!

This song is a work in progress, a guide vocal for a musical I've been dreaming up for over a decade now that didn't end up making it on(E.P)isode 1: Awakening the Swan. Like most my tunes before they end up in the magic hands of my favourite maestro Stefan Nowak, it was just a melody and lyrics. Its a play on the cure all statement of things being 'Meant to Be', but how even with that belief and acceptance it still feels ass backwards.

Crazy Mama

A little farmhouse ditty Damien and i dreamed up one afternoon while we were hibernating. This is one of those acoustic scribbles you do to get the creative juices going, inspired by a book i happened to pull off the shelf that day to start wrapping my mind around lyric ideas and the organisation of such. Its another colourful read by Sark which is about creativity and how to move through our self imposed and imagined blocks, which i did thanks to this serendipitous moment. They are her words put to music.

The first song off my first (EP)isode "Awakening the Swan", with a line borrowed from a bumper sticker I picked up on my travels and adopted as a motto, that I later discovered was a lyric from a grateful dead tune called Keep on truckin. "What a long strange trip it is"...indeed. x

More Of Myself

I wrote this song with Jason Sandbach back in 98! This was my first attempt at songwriting. We then wrote You Know You Like Me together after which I finally wrote Quest for Happy Tears on my own. Crazy to think 18 years has passed, and what I might have achieved had I kept up writing and playing. Oh well, no time like the present they say! This demo was created by Jim Beckett and Gaz Jordan back in the Byron Bay Haze of 2000 when, after jamming it out in The Arts Factory campground, we high tailed it to Sydney to record this with Stef.

I met Russell Austin whilst being a Life Model at Gosford Gallery. We became great friends and through our shared passion for creative collaboration, he generously worked with me for 6 months on creating these images for the E.P. I asked that he and Stefan be painted into the picture as it was essentially the 3 of us that dreamed up this project, and I'm a sentimental gal overflowing with graitude for the whole experience of a making a conceptual album, with my friends.


ABC Radio 'Smart Arts' program ft. Russell Austin & Jason Rooke

I first wrote this song for my Nanna's funeral, reworking a poem Ma found on the internet called 'Miss me, but please let me go', by Anonymous. A few years later I watched my friends mother pass away, after which we found this poem scribbled on a piece of paper in her wallet, and so I reworked the song again to suit her memorial service and shortly after sang it again at her grandmothers funeral as well. I recently shared it with my family again at my cousins funeral, but it could not be heard in the video of the service. So at the request of my relatives, I have made this simple recording with the help of Anthony George and Simon at Studio 9 Byron Bay, so they could hear it again. x
