This month Carhartt WIP Radio is bringing you a show by Adrian Sherwood and his legendary label On-U Sound. During a career of more than 30 years, Sherwood produced and remixed artists such as Lee "Scratch" Perry, Primal Scream, Depeche Mode or Einstürzende Neubauten amongst others. His label On-U Sound, formed in 1980, is worldwide known for cutting edge releases that are rooted somewhere between dub, experimental, Reggae, Post-punk and electronica. Furthermore many On-U Sound releases greatly influenced the sounds of today like ambient and techno. Recently many On-U Sound records of artists and collectives like African Head Charge, Singers & Players or Bim Sherman got re-released and Sherwood himself produced, dubbed and released contemporary bands like the Japanese trio Nisennenmondai. For Carhartt WIP Radio Adrian Sherwood tuned in a mix that grooves between the past, present and future of On-U Sound.

Kalbata, real name Ariel Tagar, is a veteran producer from Tel Aviv and the co founder of reissue label ‘Fortuna Records’. Regardless of genre, his distinct musical approach comes through in everything he does - a deep affection for the lowest frequencies and a collection of vintage effects and instruments which guarantee his razor sharp beats will always have a warm analog feel. The same qualities come forth in Kalbata’s precise and intense DJ sets, which cover anything from Techno to African tribal music & Dub. He had this to say;

"In this mix I played a lot of my upcoming tunes for 2017 exclusively for Solid Steel! These are more darker edge percussion dancefloor numbers which will be coming out throughout the year. I also played a few of my favorite club tracks from right now and way back when. Expect acid, tribal music, techno as well as some ultra rare back-room vinyl weirdness from the back of the shelf in true Solid Steel fashion.”

Brooklyn's Haruka is the living definition of a DJ’s DJ. Having started her career as a musician and DJ in Japan, Haruka came to NYC in 2006 and has been steadily playing gigs, throwing parties, putting out mixes, performing live, collaborating, and building a name for herself ever since. 

A technical and thoughtful DJ, Haruka can bounce from electro and techno and house, and disco to hip-hop and rock music at the drop of a hat. With regular appearances at Brooklyn fixtures Bossa Nova Civic Club, Elsewhere and Mood Ring, and with infamous sets at the highly influential BOUND and Fourth World parties, Haruka has staked her claim as one of Brooklyn’s most versatile, seasoned, and in-demand DJs.
