Moon Orchid are mainly of note for the fact that this was Monty Oxymoron's (Keyboard player with the Damned) first steps into making music. With his friend Henry, they abused tape recorders from 1974 to 1978 creating stuff like this. Henry says: "They wouldn't let us do this at school during music lessons so we did it at home instead".

Gerry Parts 1 and 2 were a "tribute" to our Physics teacher at school. Recorded in December 1975 in glorious mono. But here is an up to date 2015 anniversary version by Half Moon Half Orchid. Half Moon Half Orchid are half of Moon Orchid. Moon Orchid were Monty Oxymoron (currently the Damned's keyboard player) and his friend Henry in the 1970s messing about with tape recorders. Half Moon Half Orchid is just Henry. Here's what he says about this tune: “'Gerry Part 4' is the 40th anniversary edition of 'Gerry' and another take on the old song. This original tune was influenced by our physics teacher at school – he was one of those who had some problems at times controlling the brats that were our classmates – and when it came to the water + sodium experiment the class was not impressed by the small fizz produced encouraging him to throw larger and larger bits in until he finally out of exasperation he threw a huge chunk in and blew up the sink (literally) requiring workmen to come in and fix it up. This incident inspired this tune. At the same time we'd just been to see Captain Beefheart in Brighton (it was 1975) who also partly inspired the original and we were also listening to Frank Zappa. I wanted to bring all these things together in the 40th anniversary take on this tune. I hope you enjoy hearing it.”

Recorded in 1978 this was originally released in 1979 on F*** Off Records, Funky Weird label as part of their Cow Dung compilation from 'Hove Weirdos'. This forgotten punk classic is what happens after weeks of being told Eric Clapton is a guitar genius followed by hours of listening to a teenage rock band trying to perfect 'Layla' badly. Track was recorded in a bedroom ping ponging between two cheap mono reel to reel tape recorders.
