Frédéric Nogray's Sunset Soundrise belongs to a series of dreamlike sonic compositions from field recordings, mostly from nature, recorded in Honduras during two visits there in 2012. This CD is the second one to be released, after Buiti Binafin (déambulation à la lisière du monde) on 3Leaves in September 2012.

Frédéric is a  is interested in the intrinsic qualities of sound; of sounds as what they are: vibratory phenomena. He is also interested in the broadcasting of sound, our perceptions of it, and the various states of consciousness induced by listening.

Francisco Meirino is active in sound and live performance where he explores the tension between programmable material and the potential for its failure by working mainly with the computer, magnetic fields detectors, reel-to-reel tape recorders, piezo transducers and various acoustic devices. When you escape to a desert the silence shouts in your ear

You are confronted with yourself in these places. Silence is often seen as something soothing, but it is also frightening. It feels unnatural, especially for modern man. We constantly produce sound. In the desert there is no auditory or visual distraction. It is 40 degrees, day in day out. There is no one to talk to. You are hundreds of kilometres away from the nearest village or gas station. There is nothing romantic or idyllic about such an environment. After three days I was suffering from desert madness. You realise that the quietness you hear means that there is really nobody or nothing out there.

The town is always immersed in a sea of urban sounds. Low drone of traffic, car alarms, supermarket monsters with numberless air conditioners, machines at construction works, mobile phone melodies and children playing with fireworks. A pandemonium of pandemic noises that are present there and here and still rarely draw our deadened attention…and even more rarely we hear the quiet trees in this environment…and what the trees hear listening to the town?

Utena, Lithuania. December, noon, minus 18 Celsius. A park. Lonely tree  creaking and cracking in a cold and light wind. We are here, listening to  these intimate moments that  are silently echoing in sparse snowflakes…the tree is alive, it hears the quiet distant hum, the narrative of the town. The story of us…

SALA (The Isle) is a Lithuanian experimental music/art project active for 20 years, with numerous releases, ritualistic performances and installations. Lately the project has been drifting into the waters of electroacoustic music and field recordings finding perfect place and time where active hearing and deep listening meet vision and voice.
