This week, we're grateful to be able to welcome Melanie Havens to the series. The São Paolo-raised, Berlin-based DJ is one of the exciting names we've watched grow. Whether it's EBM, post-punk, wave, industrial or techno, her sets combine all elements to bring together an infectious and inimitable feeling.  Whether destroying dance floors in her home country of Brazil or now in the German capital, you can also catch her dropping big mixes for Fleisch, Meta Moto and X-img to new classic sets on HÖR for Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, The Hiddens, and The Brvtalist, she’s proven time and time again, she’s only getting stronger. This week we are happy to invite one of the most hard-working DJs in Ukraine’s electronic music scene, Nastya Muravoya made a name for herself in her hometown of Kyiv playing iconic parties such as Cxema, and overseas in other integral cities such as Berlin, and Krakow. As well as joining the line-ups for Unsound in Poland and Pohoda Festival in Slovakia last year, she’s made numerous appearances at Berghain. “Before I started playing, I just went to parties to dance. After a while I began to listen to music and in the future just look for tracks that I would dance all night long to. I found my sound very simply. If I like the track, I play it”.

Next up in the Fast Forward Audio Series, we present: Omon Breaker

Omon Breaker, a musician and DJ based in Berlin, wants to establish himself among the new generation of Ukrainian electronic music producers. The Dnipro-born idealist fuses an eclectic electronic sound with techno, always striving for a powerful contemporary layer. His compositions are mostly intuitive and emotional abstractions of his surroundings as he studied classical music.

While living in Obolon, Kyiv's very own Banlieue, Omon Breaker began DJing in 2019, despite being surrounded by daily violence and social decay. Heavily influenced by The Prodigy, Rammstein or Juno Reactor, his sets span a wide range of hard-hitting and intense musical references to his very own troubled history.

He strives to push a non-capitalist agenda within the quickly growing local scene and is one of the few actively carrying the flag for a new generation of Ukrainian electronic music producers.

After the Russian invasion, Max was compelled to relocate to Berlin, where he now lives and continues to support the Ukrainian electronic music scene's culture.

Fast Forward Audio Series #85: Omon Breaker

Phase Fatale is the Berlin-based techno project of Hayden Payne. Since 2014 the New York native has earned a reputation as a techno innovator, both for the broad spectrum of dystopian, gritty, industrial-laden electronics included in DJ sets as well as his deep understanding of synthesis and sound design in his own productions.

Phase Fatale has been turning heads with his debut album in 2017, and 12”s on labels such as Jealous God, Ostgut Ton, and its sub-label unterton. He has since settled into residencies at both Berghain in Berlin as well as 中 KHIDI in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.

In 2018, Payne launched his own label BITE, where he introduced Soft Crash - the pi- oneering ‘Italo body music’ project in collaboration with Pablo Bozzi. In 2020, Payne released his second solo album Scanning Backwards on Ostgut Ton, while 2022 saw his third solo album and the widely anticipated debut album by Soft Crash.

Phase Fatale’s output as a selector, as well as his productions and curation on BITE demonstrate Payne’s unique musical vision, drawing from new and classic references: dark ambient drones contrasting with the raw, punchy dynamics of industrial and post- punk, cold wave aesthetics combine with 4/4 techno functionality – all stitched togeth- er meticulously with strong atmospheric sensibilities, careful and precise mixing

@raumtester (with his real name being Sergei) is a Smalltown boy from Russia based in Berlin now. Over the past decade he has come a long way from an enthusiastic EDM listener to a resident of game-changing musical collectives. He is a fresh and outstanding face of the new wave of Techno artists whose appearance is complemententing and exciting the international electronic music scene.

Raumtester has been DJing professionally since 2015. During this time, he has managed to be a resident of parties and promotional groups which have formed the electronic dance scene of Russia and also to create his own queer party series and a radio show on Test FM «квир мир» (translates as queer world from Russian) with the average attendance of 1000 people.

Due to his disagreement with the current political situation relating to the war in Ukraine and with attitude towards LGBTQI+ community, Raumtester had to leave Russia. His international career started 4 years ago during which he had managed to play in most European capitals and cities (Germany, Ukraine, France, Portugal, Greece, Italy, etc.). As a DJ in constant research of a balance between the deep existential experience of modular techno and the emotional euphoria of trance’s various spectrums, he formed a skilled style seamlessly stitching together the genres of the old school and the new school. His musical palette is the natural reflection of his thoughts about the rhythms that resonate the inner vibrations of the human body. His musical vision garnered him invitations to record mixes and perform for many respected platforms including Boiler Room, Crack Magazine, HÖR, Ransom Note, Rinse FM etc.

Raumtester always pushes the envelope and finds new ways to express himself as an artist through different forms of art. He has collaborated with GQ Germany, Dazed & Confused, i-D, Love magazine and others spreading his ideology worldwide. After moving to Berlin Raumtester now has new “Räume” (rooms) surrounding him which he has yet to test. He explores what can be electronic music today and continues the endless journey into the mystery of the hypnotic and never-ending loop.
