BUTTER is the first single off the debut album by San Francisco Bay Area raised and Philly based artist Vessna Scheff. With mesmerizing vocal harmonies, shimmering 90’s to early 2000’s synths, and an 80’s club backbeat, BUTTER drops you right into the feeling of being swoon by your crush under the disco ball at the roller rink. Overtaken with feeling, you can’t help but brave your skates and make your way over to them, hoping you become “smooth like butter.” Inspired by a desire to feel playful, fun, sexy, and confident while navigating being a caregiver during the pandemic, Scheff wrote this song inspired by Adult Skate Night (unofficially known as Black skate night at rinks throughout the U.S.) as a dreamscape of the freedom found on the rink. Together with her collaborator Lee Clarke, Scheff builds an electrifying current glistening with the anticipation and rush of pushing off the rink wall, and gliding into your confidence.

Back in the states after a year of work and travel in china, I received an email from a close friend revealing that he had been doing heroin, and that I was the only person that he chose to tell. Struggling to find a solution to a nearly impossible problem -- do you call the parents / Do you go to China? -- I started writing "Come Out Alright". The chorus is directly taken from the email I received.
He's better now, not fighting alone.

Vessna Scheff is the 90’s baby whose pin drop performances and enrapturing vocal harmonies are swooning audiences. With a shimmering synth-ony of buttery sounds one could hear gliding across the skate rink in her debut album- coming summer 2024- Scheff makes irresistible the strength of intimate connection and community conveyed through every lyric and body melting funk bass line. Disrupting divides between visual and performing arts with a Masters from the Rhode Island School of Design, this multi-hyphenate artist effortlessly breathes visuals into vocal runs for immersive performances. She delivers an acquired awareness of self-love grown from caregiving, inspiring an appreciation of deep joy and embodiment. Raised on R&B, Hip-Hop, Folk and Classical music in the San Francisco Bay Area, Scheff’s sonic repertoire expanded through collaborations with producer Lee Clarke to include beats, Jazz, and the Soul swaying sounds of Philadelphia, where she moved in 2017. Through the dips and swells of the journey–feeling fully as we go– Scheff is serving up an iconic debut of mesmerizing, era defying sound.
