Headset Recordings presents two deep and techy slow-groovers from Vex Vexino, a young South African producer. Simplicity also includes a more uptempo remix from the innovative and prolific Jay Tripwire.

Heavenlies is a melancholic search for self. It is simple in structure but complex in feeling. Unusual for Deep House, Heavenlies offers paradoxes in sound reminiscent of Eno. The drums are solid. Deep 808 sounds are countered by acoustic hand percussion turning the rhythm upward to polyrhythm. An abstraction of a Hammond modulates outward as a grounding element breaks open ethereal voices that sing of both jubilation and lament.

Simplicity, the title track, opens with a kick and a shaker that are startling in purity. The sound of each drum swells then collapses into implosion. A shamanic Giorgio Moroder bassline searches sub frequencies and magnetically cycles the track deeper into the unknown. Simplicity presents questions about what is real and what is imagined.

The Jay Tripwire Remix extracts the atmosphere of Simplicity's shamanic feel and fills a warehouse with it. Jay's mix is a love letter to warehouse parties and their altered states of reality. It captures the moment of the night when the body heat peaks and the walls begin to move. It is the sound and feel of a cathartic release felt in a flash.

Headset Hi-Fi: Volume 2 speaks to the journey that we have made since our first compilation, Headset Hi-Fi: Volume 1. Striving for a quality of production and an international variety of expression for multiple types of dancefloors and venues, we looked for sounds that were true to the foundation of our identity while challenging the status quo. 

Slovenian producer, J. Khobb kicks off the compilation with Meanwhile Underwater, a deep and techy house track with a presence that pulls you into its beckoning darkness and mystery. The striking percussion swims through a clicking techhouse metronome to reveal a thunderous bassline and an elegant melody.
     
Once Again is from Luminér, the Italian duo of Andrea Martello and Giulio Spagnuolo. Infectious drums set a groove for icy strings that sound as though they were made in Detroit. A jazzy bassline evolves into a slow build that bends with filter modulation and raises the energy to a controlled pitch.     

South Africa's Vex Vexino returns to Headset Recordings with Years Of Famine, a patient track that strikes the chord of melodic melancholy that Vex Vexino has become known for. It shrouds the dancefloor and the listener in an achingly beautiful rapture of harmonic reflections. Years Of Famine is the type of track that stands out in a session and shows the mettle of a DJ.

Andrea Martello (Italy) sets the pace with a deep and hypnotic shuffler called After A Good Ramble. Nacho Riveros (Argentina) follows with Basics, an emotional house groover that builds suspense with an undulating synth line. Next, BHOO (Italy) moves the compilation into techier waters with Blipper, a drummy and atmospheric builder. Wayne Duggan (Ireland) wraps it up with a moody and tender deep house track called You Say.
