PROTO EXOTICA joined our line up hailing al the way from Naarm (MEL). Obsessive diggers and like-minded pals Freddy and Alex champion the sounds of the weird, wonky, and wonderful through their party + upcoming label: Proto Exotica.

With a climbing number of projects as far-reaching as their tastes, they’ve toured and supported household names like Jura Soundsystem, Adriana, Jex Opolis, Otologic, OK EG, MLiR (Modern Life is Rubbish), DJ Possum, Pitaya Soundsystem, River Yarra, Andras, Instant Peterson, and Mary Lake.

Just as comfortable playing beachside as within a smoky club, expect nothing less than a happy mingle of sun-soaked Balearic beats, atmospheric grooves, their very own cheeky disco edits, and a bit of 90s house (which they’ll never say no to).

They say there is an art in managing pasta cooking time... They warmed up for ETERNAL LOVE on an epic sunset to night boogie, delighting our palates with some tasty tunes!

Very happy to welcome another artist I truly admire. Seoul-based record collector and DJ, this versatile selector digs deep into sounds from across the globe, blending ‘80s and ‘90s-inspired Balearic, Boogie, RNB, and House into seamless, soulful journeys. His mixes have aired on respected stations like Radio TNP, Operator Radio, Amok Radio, Rocket Radio, EHFM, Pinata Radio, Sphere Radio, and Bangkok Community Radio, to name a few.

Under his edit-focused alias TUCAN DISCOS, he's gained global recognition with support from top DJs like Moxie, Paula Tape, H&S, and many more. His edits have been featured on international labels such as Bongosynth (Brazil), Les Yeux Orange (France), and Stereo Ferment (Canada), with more releases expected this year.

He’s played internationally at events like Radio TNP’s ADE party, Hotel 727 (Almaty), Call Me by Bad Time Disco (Hong Kong), Soma Summer (Moscow), Toytonics Jam (Berlin), and Wonderfruit (Bangkok). I played Sunday morning from 6 to 8 am and this one is particular for me as it was my first time to play solo at Savage. It was a closing set for the weekend and not only did I want to do right by the party, I also wanted to put together a sort of 'love letter - send off' for a space that did (and continues to do) a number on me every time - in the best way. Hope you enjoy it, and that it makes you move around.

Romain is Born in France and raised across Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the USA, Romain's nomadic roots fuel his vision of a borderless world, united by rhythm and dance.
A key figure in Asia’s music scene for over 19 years, he launched ventures like the award-winning Fauve Radio & Records, the record store The Pharmacy, and helped shape countless events and festivals—cementing his status as a tastemaker and paving the way for global recognition.
His Boiler Room debut in 2018 marked a turning point, launching him into a full-time DJ/producer role. He’s since released on respected labels like Sound Metaphors, Live At Robert Johnson, Kalahari Oyster Cult, Permanent Vacation, and Eskimo Recordings.
Romain has played iconic venues and festivals including Panorama Bar & Lab.oratory, Fabric, Lux Fragil, Sonar, and Nuits Sonores.
His new dawless live set—raw, emotional, and high-energy—has taken him from Brazil to Japan, Lisbon to Australia.
With two decades of digging and a treasure trove of synths, drum machines, and over 3000 records, Romain binges deep musical knowledge and adaptability is his super-power, whether it’s a sunrise beach set or a festival atop the Great Wall of China, he will make them dance.

We met on the dance floor after sharing a few words and a few steps during an Asa Tate set. Beyond the respect I have for his music, there’s also respect for the simple, genuine person he is. As I mentioned in the description of the series, connections are created but, more importantly, they are nurtured. Thank you so much for accepting to be part of it.
